Slub silk tailored jacket with half sleeves, deep turned back cuffs and deep revered collar and hook fastening. Lightly padded shoulders, fitted waist and cream silk lining.
Size straddles Small/Medium (I wear a 36/small and it's just slightly big but doable). Fleece lined. Zippered side pockets. Velcro tabs on draft flap are tired.
The hooks and eyes were sewn on the front facing. Also visible is the lining. This pattern provides instructions for an unlined jacket. I like mine lined. So Instead of using the front and back facings, I used the jacket pattern pieces to create a lining.
The sleeves aren't attached - just laid next to the jacket body...and the buttons are laid on top of the jacket as a test...to see if these are the ones I really want.
I finished the jackets. And this is take 2. There were a lot of little things wrong with first run of the jackets. Some of those couldn't be seen, others affected the fit of the jacket. The biggest issue was with the shoulders and the shoulder pads. I drew the pattern for both jackets from one of the 1/6th jackets I had. That coat was too broad in the shoulders for George so I made adjustments to it in the pattern. I took in the pattern at the wrong point, making the shoulder part of the sleeves too long. I should have adjusted the pattern when I first realized this, but in a way I'm glad I went on; I learned a lot. Shoulder pads: I mistakenly thought I could just cut the pads out of the jackets from some suit sets I had. They worked okay for George, but not at all for Kate, so this time around I'm doing real shoulder pads. I also added interfacing to the front, back, and collars.
Saw this jacket on the neighbors garage door. Looked kinda out of place and odd just hanging there.
Shot from across the street, through a very dirty window. Turned out surprisingly well considering.
Not sure if I prefer that version, or this slightly more edited version: i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/LiquidOnyx/2008/jacket.jpg
