As usual can't make my mind up so this is 1 of 2 possibilities!

Decision made...

While there was a late temptation to post a picture of 3 inches I thought I'd behave and use this one, which is probably obvious if you're viewing it in the group!

A white-tailed deer stands under the wrong tree. I took this photo a year ago yesterday. This year we have only had a dusting so far.

Spring came to my garden today! Sunshine and bumble bees!

it seems very likely that St Anthony's Chapel was closely associated with Holyrood Abbey, which stood just a few hundred yards away to the north-west. The two were linked by a well-made stone track (now heavily worn) with prominent kerbstones that can in places still be seen, and about three quarters of the way along this track up to the chapel is the spring and carved stone bowl known as St Anthony's Well.

It's tempting to think of St Anthony's Chapel as an outlying chapel for Holyrood Abbey, perhaps constructed as a means of getting pilgrims out from under the feet of the monks in the abbey. It has also been suggested that the chapel served as a sort of religious beacon, designed to be clearly visible to sea-borne pilgrims coming to Holyrood Abbey as they sailed up the River Forth.

As for dating, there are references to a grant paid for repairs to St Anthony's Chapel by the Pope in 1426, suggesting the building could date back into the 1300s or beyond. Details of its demise are equally unclear, but presumably, like Holyrood Abbey itself, St Anthony's Chapel fell into disuse and disrepair after the Reformation in 1560.

Today, all that remains of the chapel are parts of the north wall plus remnants of another building a little to the south-west, which has sometimes been called a hermitage but was probably just a store room. The remaining chapel wall shows signs of vaulting, and it is thought that when complete the building would have comprised a small three-bay chapel, with a three-storey tower at its west end. This odd shape, almost as tall as it was long, supports the idea that the chapel was designed as much to ensure distant visibility as to accommodate worshippers.

It has been a tiring period for me, pardon the lack of new photos. Really appreciate the support

It was a wet rainy morning when we set out by canoe on the Amazon River. Our goal was to go down-river and then hike to small village hidden in the thick overgrowth of the rain forest.

Our hopes were high that we would experience firsthand a day in the life of the indigenous Kichwa people. This group of Kichwa live in a small village of about thirty families tucked away from civilization in the Amazon Rainforest. While visiting the village, I had the opportunity to capture a portrait of this mother and child. It made my day.

An ever-growing concern for the leaders of these small pockets of Indigenous People is how to encourage the younger generation to stay in the village and not leave for big cities and the modern lifestyle they are increasingly made aware of.

It is thought that this ancient tree - an oak planted during the reign of Henry Vlll - inspired the legendary character Treebeard in JRR Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. Tolkien lived nearby and would walk these woods sparking his imagination to write his stories.

Treebeard was a giant tree that could walk and talk in Tolkien's novel. Such a tree was considered an Ent, and there were other Ents in Lord Of The Rings too.

The tree is natural and has not been adapted which makes it even more amazing.

It has always amazed me to see hummingbirds close-up and in person. This was shot at Huntington Beach Central Park, and then I added a couple of layers of my own texture.

Have a safe and happy day dear Flickr friends !

It is midday now, we are hiking for quite some time. One thing comes to view is that any tree in this environment is lonely. It makes stand in ore and admire persistence and energy to withstand harsh environment. Well done nature.

It was great to see the pair of Black-shouldered Kites back in the Sneydes Rd area this morning. I observed them collecting nesting material again.

I will be back later to catch up - got to run for now.

Title translates to "The Red Tower" located in Mellieha - Malta. This structure was built during the days of the Knights Of Malta (circa 1580) to (a) keep watch over the sea surrounding the Island , and (b) communicate with other towers located along the coast, via smoke signals in case of approaching danger. Thank you for your time to view.
