Yes, it's easy to see why this Spurflower is specifically named for a pouch, because that's what its 'body' looks like, doesn't it? Anyway, this pretty mauve flower was first collected by Johann Frantz Drège (1794-1881), whom I've frequently mentioned in these pages as an intrepid plant collector in South Africa (e.g. www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/48692564923/in/photoli...). Around 1832 he found this plant near the Uzimbubu River at an altitude of about 250m. It was first described in 1836.
The Hortus has a variety of Plectranthus plants but the flowers of this one are certainly the largest. Note the water droplets...

Had some great photos taken at the pond Yesterday with another Lily blooming to compete with this Bulls Eye Lily.
After the Female laid her eggs she posed for me on the flower, she even let me put my palm under her and touching her wings.

It's been a dreary and on and off rainy kind of a week...puts everyone in a bit of a melancholy mood, I think...
It's finally done. Our sim is covered in snow, the bushes are covered in ice and snow is falling heavy and slowly, wrapping our land and our two homes under a thick, white blanket. And since I am finally satisfied.. or close there of, I herby open the sim area for visitors again. If you come and visit, please report all issues to me that you encounter. And be aware that the two homes are private and protected (watch the warning signs) and if you post a pic, mention me so I have an easier way to see what you like (flickr notification sucks), love to see how you set up our home

Versicolored Emerald - it is a small species of Amazilia hummingbird. It is discontinuously distributed in open habitats of eastern South America, from Colombia east to the Guianas and south to northeastern Argentina and southern Brazil. This is a medium-sized hummingbird with green upperparts and white underparts; the mostly pink mandible helps to distinguish it from the very similar White-chested Emerald (Amazilia chionopectus). There are six subspecies of Versicolored Emerald, which vary in features such as the color of the crown (glittering green or turquoise) and throat (white, or variably green or turquoise). One poorly-known subspecies, rondoniae of southwestern Brazil (and northern Bolivia?), sometimes is recognized as a separate species, but geographic variation within Versicolored Emerald merits further study. Across its broad range, the Versicolored Emerald behaves as a typical Amazilia: it occurs at the edges of forest, in open shrubby areas, and in savannas with scattered trees or shrubs. Versicolored Emeralds feed at a wide variety of flowers; they may defend small patches of flowers, but also visit flowering trees, which attract many hummingbirds of a variety of species.
