I didn't venture any further out on the breakwater separating Irondequoit Bay from Lake Ontario today. Why? Well, the steel "rope" to hold on was a little slippery! The waves hit the breakwater in cold weather and you have a winter wonderland effect in various places.
NO INVITES PLEASE
A few days before Labor Day I walked down to the Irondequoit Bay outlet and out to the end of the west breakwater pier. We had high clouds and bright sun. I was in the mood for taking pictures.

We were chatting about the Capture Rochester Photo Contest and the Buffalo Bills football team. It was kind of quiet and I think the guy wanted to fish the last of the light before sundown, so I said "take care" and off I went. Nice guy, I thought to myself....hope he has some luck. Next thing I know there is all this commotion and I hear someone yelling "HERE'S YOUR PICTURE". Sure enough! Nice capture!
Surreal circles
The Irondequoit Bay Marine Park begins at the end of Peart Avenue, and follows the woodline down to the bay. From the edge of the woods I could see down to bay. The ice on the near side had this strange circles along the edge. I assume they were natural since the ice wasn't thick enough for anyone to be cutting donuts with a car.
I needed to take a walk and I needed to finish the roll of film so I could develop and scan it. I walked north along Peart Avenue then down toward the lake and bay.

Yesterday was my full day of riding around looking for something to photograph. On my way home, I passed through the Bay right at the golden hour. The colors were simply magnificent! I did a slight removal of shadows but nothing more was done to these images. God's handiwork is simply amazing.....
I drove by the Irondeqouit Bay boat launch park just before sundown tonight. Some people were feeding the seagulls and the clouds were bright orange. I stopped to take some pics.
Evening along the Irondequoit Bay Outlet heading out to Lake Ontario. Stormy day as much needed rain visited the area.

Man and mini-mutt.
We got to talking. I asked if I could take a photo. Mini-mutt retreated to safety when I lay down on the dock.

Unusually mild temperatures are visiting our potion of Upstate NY. We'll take it when the ice melts and the skies look like this! 20170120-DSC_2867

Irondequoit Bay is where I took a lot of my duck and swan photos. I am guessing that since this photo was taken all of the ice showing here has melted. We have had some warmer weather and rain and that should have helped.
A couple weeks ago I took the Holga 120PC for a walk down Point Pleasant road to the Irondequoit Bay. I turned right to follow Schnackel Road down around Ides Cove.

I had been watching for newly hatched ducklings all spring and never did see any. I saw Swans, goslings and such but not one duck. One day I stopped by this area and found numerous young ducks, but they were almost as large as the adults and certainly didn't have any down.
About a week ago I stopped at the bay again and found a female with 8 ducklings. The ducklings were fluttering around so fast that it was impossible to get a decent photo. I went back yesterday and was able to get a few shots that I think will be keepers. This is one of them.
