Mom's iris

I have lots of Iris growing in my garden - I did not plant them, they were there when I purchased the house. But they are nice.

Purple iris with morning dew. Found in a meadow in a clearing along Bald Hill Trail.

Iris 'Jenny Joy', 2002, is the largest-leaved iris in my patch. Massive clump in moist ground.

The 'beard' also looks a bit like the flower is sticking a hairy tongue out at you.

Can someone explain macro on larger items? I understand 1:1 for smaller items. But when It comes to larger subjects. I am confused :(
