My mom grew Irises in her garden. Most of them were single colored. She had one call a paintbrush that was multi-colored. When we planted a flowerbed at our house, we chose to plant some Irises, too. Thanks, Mom for teaching me about simple beauty.
Very late bloomer, small flowers on thinner (but strong) stalks.

First iris for the season popped up when I wasn't looking. It was still cold today but could feel a bit of warmth in the sun.
Iris atropurpurea, the coastal iris, is a species in the genus Iris, it is also in the subgenus of Iris and in the Oncocyclus section. It is a rhizomatous perennial, from Israel. It has glaucous, linear, falcate leaves.

These Dutch Iris beauties came from the house where I grew up. Before my parents moved out, we kids removed hundreds of bulbs of various types and now have them to enjoy in our own gardens.
Iris plantés il y a près de 2 ans, donnés par une dame qui voulait se débarrasser d'un surplus. J'avais quelques craintes car l'exposition est plus mi-ombre que soleil, mais enfin, ce printemps, alors que je me disais que les iris ne feraient que des feuilles, voici une première floraison. Deux fleurs seulement sur une dizaine de pieds d'iris.
Mais je vais maintenant espérer d'autres floraisons sachant que ces deux pieds ont fleuri.
