From the Greek word for rainbow, source of orris root, used in perfumery, origin of the Fleur-de-Lis, beloved of Vincent van Gogh...
I still had the 105mm lens set at 1/1000 2.8 for shooting bees, it was after lunch and a few drinks, hand-held, no wonder depth of field was proving elusive!

This Japanese Iris stands out in the garden It was perfect to photograph early in the morning after the dew. Taken in my sister-in-laws spectacular garden.

Iris germanica is probably native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean region, but it has become established all over the temperate world and can be found growing on road shoulders and old home sites throughout much of the U.S. and Europe.
