"When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not." ~ Georgia O'Keefe

Unlike the crested iris, this iris grows in a clump and has yellow markings.

"Thou art the Iris, fair among the fairest,

Who, armed with golden rod

And winged with the celestial azure, bearest

The message of some God."

2009/04 - In my garden

I'm off work unwell at the moment so am using the time to archive the many images I've not yet moved and saved off my camera memory card! I came across these two flowers from May and thought I'd post them together. Both are pink[ish] and grow from rhizomes but are quite different. This one, an intermediate Bearded Iris, has been grown in my scree bed and so is kept dwarfed as it doesn't have the rich loamy soil one would normally provide it with. That way it's scale matches the other alpines grown in this area. I shall probably divide the rhizomes next month and plant some in a more traditional soil type and see how they compare after a few years! It has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit. I believe this is an iris. The picture was taken at the Portland Japanese Garden.

I didn't see that interesting bit of orange until I looked @ my photo on the computer.

Since I have proclaimed February to be Iris month for our painting group, I decided to put up two more iris for members to paint, if they like. This may be downloaded by members for their use.

Iris 'Sikh' (Baker, 1926), Thanks, Jane!

Iris 'Late Lilac' bloomed in May but I waited for identification before posting.

I have no idea what these structures are. Anyone else know?

Some flowers just bring joy to the yard.

The Bearded Irises are now in bloom and have multiplied since I planted them. Their interesting coloring is certainly welcome on this sunny day (for a change).
