Overcast skies make for stunning orange tones in these California Poppies alongside a Pacific Coast Hybrid Iris. Seen also are Purple needle grasses, California Sagebrush and, looking closely, Seaside Daisy (between the poppies and irises).
visited my gran today, thought this iris that was in her garden was pretty bizarre looking, almost leopard skin.
This is the same photo I posted earlier. I played around in photoshop with the contrast and lighting levels. This is also cropped. Is this better?

Maymont is a delightful 100 acre historical estate near downtown Richmond, Virginia.
The origin of the property was as a Victorian estate established by James Dooley and
his wife Salley. Mr. Dooley had acquired his wealth in railroading. Today, the estate and
its buildings are beautifully maintained by the private Maymount Foundation. I found this
iris bloom along a walkway behind the Dooley mansion.
This tour of Maymont was part of a visit with my flickr contact John H. Bowman and his
wife Ruth Ann in late-April, 2012.
Iris rhizomes are harvested, dried, and aged for up to 5 years, then steam-distilled to make "iris butter"--one of my favorite scents. Unfortunately for me the few perfumes I have found with iris are pricey.
