The hard drive on my 80 GB Video iPod died a while ago. I scored a replacement drive online and swapped in the new drive, and just had some time to disassemble the unit.
There are two platters on this unit, and the read heads park completely off the platters on this plastic block. I've seen the same technique used in a Hitachi drive, but this is not seen on older hard drives.
I shot this with my 50mm f/1.4, a 2x Kenko teleconverter spaced off the lens with a 36mm extension tube, and a 20mm extension tube behind the teleconverter.
Strobist info: Canon 430EX on a TTL sync cord, with a Sto-Fen diffuser, hand-held above the drive.

Another test of the light tent. 1/13 shutter speed, this time. Getting closer, but I might have to slow it down even more.
This would mark the first time I've taken something like this apart and actually got it back together again in working order.
My girlfriend and I both have iPod nanos that freeze up at this exact point when attempting to play our first file of the day. It doesn't happen again that day, and it doesn't happen every day. But it's always the first file we attempt to play after syncing in the morning. Anyone else have this issue? (I also had the problem with my older 4th generation iPod)

This is an iPod 6th generation that is about 1:1 scale. It's a little bigger than lifesized, but that's fine. NO, it does not function!!!
Now that Summerboard has gone Alpha for iTouch, I can really begin to customize my touch. Here is the Time Machine Theme for Summerboard, with some extra icons thrown in (notice the handsome guy in the contacts icon).

Guest Video: The iPod Flea Ad Spoof
This week, David Pogue has arranged for a special guest video artist: Scott Kelby, Photoshop maven. Last week, as he keynoted his own Mac Design conference, he played a hilarious Apple ad spoof for something called the iPod Flea, which I'm pleased to offer in its Web debut.
Es un iPod Blanco de 80 Gb.
Me hubiera gustado uno negro, pero sólo había en 30Gb, pero bueno, el Blanco es el color que lo inició todo. Aunque el negro no se ensucia tanto.
Ahora a esuchar mp3 y sobretodo mis podcasts favoritos.
Oh, es cierto. También puedo ver videos en él...
Tendré que pasar Simpsons, Family Guy, Heroes, EHC, etc.
