Queen Elizabeth II Great Court, British Museum, Bloomsbury area of the London Borough of Camden, London, England, UK

"The court has a tessellated glass roof designed by Buro Happold and executed by Waagner-Biro, covering the entire court and surrounds the original circular British Museum Reading Room in the centre, now a museum. It is the largest covered square in Europe. The glass and steel roof is made up of 4,878 unique steel members connected at 1,566 unique nodes and 1,656 pairs of glass windowpanes making up 6,100m2 of glazing; each of a unique shape because of the undulating nature of the roof." History of the Columns

The Columns on Francis Quadrangle

The traditional symbol of the University of Missouri is the row of six Ionic columns. The Columns once supported the portico of Academic Hall, the first building erected on campus (1843).

In 1892, Academic Hall was destroyed by fire and the Columns were all that remained. In 1893, after debate, the Board voted to retain them. Now the Columns stand as a beloved part of MU's campus.

Ionic columns on the Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent, built 1767-74, designed by John Wood, the Younger (1728-82).

Originally 30 terraced townhouses, 18 have been converted into apartment buildings, 1 is a hotel, and one is the No. 1 Royal Crescent museum.

The uniform façade of the crescent was designed by Wood, but the houses behind were all designed by the each owners' own architects.

Plas Brondanw, Garreg, Gwynedd.

The Gardens.

Ionic Column.

Grade ll listed.

An Ionic stone column, approximately 4m high, with surmounting lead statue - possibly St Ronan. The column is set in the centre of a slightly raised rectangular lily pond.

Plas Brondanw is a C17 gentry house with probable earlier origins, altered partly-raised and extended late C18. Long in the possession of the Williams family. The house was inherited in 1908 by the renowned architect and conservationist Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1883-1978), and henceforth became his home. Together with his wife Amabel he laid out the important gardens and, over a number of decades erected or remodelled numerous buildings, follies and features around the Brondanw estate and the village of Garreg. The house was gutted by fire in 1951 and was subsequently restored, and in part redesigned, by its owner, the restoration being complete by December 1953.

The gardens were laid out to his designs in various stages between his inheritance of the estate in 1908 and his death in 1978. He created here one of Wales' most impressive gardens distinctive for its interlinked terraces, compartments and axial vistas that are aligned on the surrounding mountains of Moel Hebog, Moelwyn, Cnicht and Snowdon.

Like Multi-Tech Air Purifier, Silent Ionic Air Purifier removes 99.5% of airborne particulate in a 128 cubic foot chamber designed to duplicate a usual room in a recent lab test. Absolutely, more impressive than most removal rate percentages because it measure particles all throughout an entire chamber outside the Air Purifier and not the usual way of testing particle reduction in which it measures only at the point where the air enters the Air Purifier

Columns outside the British Museum. London, England

Some of the members of Northampton U3A Architecture - 'Buildings through the Ages Group' went on a day trip to London in order to visit the Palladio Exhibition at the Royal Academy. We then paid a short visit to the British Museum.

The House of the Temple has 10 columns facing 16th Street. Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, 1733 16th St NW, Washington, DC.

See also Temple at Night.

The Ionic Temple was used by the Duncombe family and guests for dining and socialising after promenading along the Terrace. The ceiling is the chief glory of the Temple. Its frescoes of mythological scenes are the work of Italian painter Giuseppe Mattia Borgnis, who came to England around 1753.

The fresco in the centre of the ceiling depicts Aurora in a golden billowing dress with her garlands, leading a blond Apollo in his horse-drawn chariot, surrounded by a chain of female "hours", bringing light to the world. It is based on the Guido Reni’s mural in the Palazzo Rospigliosi in Rome.

This fresco at the bottom depicts Peleus, king of Phthia, and the sea-nymph Thetis. The marriage of Peleus and Thetis produced seven sons, six of whom died in infancy. The only surviving son was Achilles.
