Granted this is 2 blocks worth, but this is an awful lot of cutting!! There's no way I would ever make it through a whole quilt of this block, so thank you ladies for making it as my bee block!

Most tie replacement and track improvement work around Armitage Interlocking is almost complete. The Western/Milwaukee station can be seen in the distance.

These photos show daytime work on the Blue Line between Western and Logan Square over the weekend, where buses replaced trains so workers could improve the tracks. Work will eliminate slow zones and bring faster service to the Blue Line!

What gets done on a weekend of Milwaukee Blue Line Track Renewal work, part of the Your New Blue project? Over large sections of the line, rails are removed, old track ties taken out, new ties put in, and the tracks rebuilt before the Monday AM rush.

To do this amount of work in this amount of time, it's necessary to temporarily suspend service on a section of the Blue Line (shuttle buses are provided to bridge the gap) as one track is dismantled/removed and the other is used by equipment to help the work proceed as quickly as possible.

More info about the project is available at www.transitchicago.com/news_initiatives/projects/bluemilw...

InterCity 332 departs the Interlaken West en route to Basel – a Swiss journey using a German ICE trainset.

The Ausfahrsignale (exit signal) of the interlocking at Interlocking is still displaying a single green aspect, indicating "Freie Fahrt" (figure 1 in the Swiss rule book) – "Proceed at maximum speed authorized by the timetable." The small signal unit displaying a diagonal white over green aspect is the Abfahrerlaubnis – the authority to depart the station.

In common with many European signal installations, this signal does not return to the red ("Halt") indication until the train has entered the second track segment past the exit signal.

Red Line #901 passes an outbound Brown Line local at Armitage, preparing to dive into the State Street Subway. Behind the restored canopies is Armitage Tower; built in the 1940s, the tower controlled the interlocking between the four-track Northwestern Elevated main line and the State Street Subway, which diverged down the middle of the main line. The tower closed in 1968 and found use first as a CTA office, then a signal department base.

Four Interlocking Irregular Parabiaugmented Polarly Diminished Crossed Triangular Antiprisms 48 units

4-fold view.

Daniel and Aaron have been waiting for these for awhile, but the rest of you have been out of the loop, so I'll try to explain this is simply as possible. Several months back, I discovered this shape- the shape of an individual frame by seeing this as a triangular form of a single "2 tetrahedron compound" from Daniel's 6 tetrahedra model. 3 "spokes" radiate out of each pole instead of the 4 in Daniel's model. And I figured 4 should be possible, but without povray, I just couldn't figure out what to do, so until the convention this layed dormant. Then, Daniel and I worked on this and rendered two different compounds. This was the first. At the time, both were just named "4 triangular thingies", but considering my love for geometric names, I had to think up a relatively accurate description for the shape, and thus we have this.

I'm favoring White Vinegar baths once again in cast iron restorations, while both CLR and Evaporust did an ok job i think it was actually me in periodic scrub downs with assorted wire brushes that got the results .

Today the stand got immersed in White Vinegar with scrub downs and actually saw how clean right down to the gray cast iron that started to appear .

Either the crud finally started to yield after CLR and switching

to Evaporust baths but seemed still faster with White Vinegar

with the same amount of elbow work .

Still nowhere clean as I want it but the other stand is now in White Vinegar . later, this stand will have another three

gallons of fresh clean White Vinegar to set in and i think will completely remove all the rust still present .

While I'd love to get the sandblaster up and running, manual labor in rust removal does insure I wont fry my dainty compressor, its rated air capacity is just good enough for finishing work and not a total strip down, not to mention I'm still setting up the new sandblast cabinet.

The back side of the lever deck is where the interlocking bed was. In the photo it's directly above the ends of the levers, where all the light is shining through. If viewed full size you will see a number of square beams, some of which still have linkages attached to them. These beams rocked back and forth when their corresponding lever was worked and moved another flat beam (the locking rod) longitudinally. However the locking rod could only move if it was unlocked, or, that it wasn't being locked by the action of another lever. A mechanically programmed system of inter-dependance was built into the machine. Think of it as an early computer with a fixed program.

This interlocking machine was of the Saxby and Farmer type, developed in England in the late 19th Century. This machine was built by The Federal Railway Signal Company of Troy NY.

Left: Lot 14 - Holtzapffel, 'Legend of St Giles' by Percy Spence, 700pc 3repl, plywood, 18x24in, original but tatty box. Est £130 - sold for £150. Great line-cutting in this smooth-cut Holtzapffel.

Centre-Left & Centre-Right: A semi interlocking version of the image with some line-cutting - no337produced for the Home Jigsaw Library, 800pc 2repl, 1 brok 24x18in. The title given to this jigsaw is 'Protecting the Deer'. I bought this from a BCD member in Sept 2016.

Top & Lower Right: An interlocking version from an unknown maker, which looks to have about half a dozen replacements. The 800pc vintage jigsaw measures 24x18in and was sold by BCD member stgenix in Dec 2014. Some of the replacement pieces are obvious and need repainting.

The artist also produced several designs for Chad Valley GWR eg The Vikings Landing at St Ives & King Arthur on Dartmoor, His illustrations were also used for the Delta Heroes of History series.

Percy Frederick Seaton Spence (1868 – 1933) was an Australian artist.

Spence was born in Sydney, seventh child of English parents Francis Spence, civil servant, and his wife Hannah, née Turnbull. Spence spent his youth in Fiji where his father held a government position. He became an illustrator to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Illustrated Sydney News and The Bulletin and also exhibited at the Royal Art Society.

In 1893 Spence made two drawings of Robert Louis Stevenson in Sydney; one is now in the National Portrait Gallery, London. Spence went to England after marrying Jessie Wright 30 January 1894; illustrations by him appeared in Punch, Black and White, the Graphic, and other well-known publications of the time. Spence had two pictures in the Royal Academy exhibition of 1899 and his work was also accepted in the three following years. In 1901 he was responsible for the illustrations to Britain's Austral Empire, mostly portraits of the leading Australian politicians of that period.

In 1905 Spence was back in Sydney and held a one-man show of his work, and in 1910 he provided 75 illustrations for the volume Australia, in Black's colour series. They show Spence to have been an artist of ability and variety. Spence died of uraemia on 3 August 1933 in Middlesex Hospital, London, after an eye operation.

Spence is represented in the National Gallery and the Mitchell library in Sydney. A pencil sketch of Phil May is in the National Portrait Gallery (London), and other portraits are at University of Sydney and at the High Court. The "H. M. Australian Fleet arriving at Sydney Heads" and a portrait of Rear-Admiral George Patey are at Buckingham Palace.

- Box for Meredith Worsfold 308pc On the Banks of the Seine by Jean Beraud (1849-1936), 16x12.3in.

The jigsaw is semi-interlocking and extensively line-cut, but not as accurately as Alan wanted. Meredith made jigsaws for many charitable causes. This one is no 1585, housed in a trademark plain turquoise box with typewritten label.

- Photochrom 31pc Post Card Jigsaw Great Pulteney St, Bath. Jigsaw and card are inside a folded paper wrapper. This one has been written on, it was sent by a Canadian soldier Victor on furlough for sickness in 1916 to his family in Victoria whilst he was lodging with his aunt in Bath.

- Tower Press 200pc Official Souvenir of 1951 South Bank Exhibition Site, The Festival of Britain 14x9.5in

Grid-cut interlocking cardboard jigsaw where all the interior pieces are opposite twosies with steeply-sloping ‘shoulders’. David told us about his experience of organizing the first BCD House Party, when he was new to the committee and also about his early lucky buy of a rare jigsaw and a failed attempt to duplicate that profitable experience by buying ten pieces of memorabilia leading to a heavy loss.

- Box for Dreamton 500pc Central Park, New York City. Large laser-cut rectangular maze jigsaw produced in Ukraine. I've not done mine yet but Penbleth made one up during the Jan 2022 virtual meeting. Bright colours, large plywood pieces with a stained back.

Front Row:

- Victory Promotional Jigsaw for Gilbert Ash, Architects 84pc Gilbert Ash City by RS Pike, date c1956-1964. A favourite of David’s, this jigsaw shows a fantasy city containing all their best buildings from around the world, plus a key identifying them.

- Leisure & Pleasure Enid Stocken ?pc Place du Tertre, Montmartre Paris by Fernand (Francois) Claver

Housed in its original wallpaper-covered reused stockings box and containing many of Enid’s trademark whimsies plus some line-cutting. A signed early-mid 20thC painting of Paris by Fernand/Francois Claver. Very little biographical data is known – born 1918, died c 1961. He painted in a style combining impressionism & modernism, specializing in Paris landmarks such as Le Pont Neuf, La Madeleine or Montmartre (The Moulin Rouge, Place du Tertre) which show a surprising mix of striking colors and muted tones.

**This is for a monogram ONLY** Please tell me letters in exact order-normally First name, Last name, Middle name. (Middle inital, which is the last name, will be larger)

This view gives a good idea on what went on when I laid the caps and pavers, in order to get a deck I feel comfortable with.

BTW, the patio project has just passed the one-month mark.
