I am thrilled to report that I spent some time with Dean Jackson, the designer of these remarkable AeroPods, and he's a really interesting and creative guy. This bar had us swooning. His designs are remarkable.
As part of the final project for Rendering class, we had to first design (in floor plan), then draw (pencil & ink), then pencil (color, materials), then do a final rendering (marker & colored pencil). This is from the third step; I liked how this came out better than the final, since I was in a rush with the final.

The idea came about as a commission to design sturdy weatherproof outdoor seats for a music festival with a limited budget. On my daily walk from my flat to my studio, I saw two baths dumped on the street by the rubbish bins. Made from fibreglass, they are an instant, durable material already moulded to he human shape and very easy to cut with an angle grinder. Using broken chinaware and ceramic tiles leftover from previous projects, I choose strong patterns found in Indian architecture and added mirror tiles to give them a luxuriant edge. The hardest part was to ensure there are no sharp edges which people could snag their clothes on or hands, as they are very tactile. Grouting is most definitely for the patient.

A prayer mat or prayer rug is usually a square piece of cloth, sometimes even a large pile rug, utilized by Muslims and some Christians for daily prayer. My sister Deanne Coles-Christensen is a gifted decorator. I helped her shoot these photos of her incredible home in Santa Fe that she’s sadly leaving after ten years. She's moving to Salt Lake City this week.
