La remarquable voûte en nervures et les stalles ornées d'écus de la Thistle Chapel dans la St Giles Cathedral, High St (Royal Mile), Édimbourg, Écosse.
La Thistle Chapel (chapelle du Chardon) a été créée en 1911 pour l'Ordre des Chevaliers du Chardon, la plus haute distinction d’Écosse. C’est le monarque britannique qui préside aux rituels de l’ordre à partir des magnifiques stalles marquées des armoiries d’Écosse, un véritable zoo héraldique.
La cathédrale, une église gothique du 15e siècle mais grandement remaniée au 19e siècle, est dédiée au patron des lépreux. C'est aujourd'hui l'église la plus importante d'Écosse, siège de la Church of Scotland, qui abrite les tombes de plusieurs grands personnages de l'histoire écossaise en faisant une sorte de panthéon ou une Westminster Abbey écossaise.
La ville d’Édimbourg, capitale de l’Écosse depuis 1532, est construite sur des collines volcaniques. Alors que la Vieille ville (cité) s'est construite autour de l'imposant crag d’origine glacière (Castle Rock) et sa forteresse dont les fondations remontent au 7e siècle ainsi que de sa queue (Royal Mile), on dit souvent que la ville moderne est construite sur sept collines, à savoir Calton Hill, Corstorphine Hill, Craiglockhart Hill, Braid Hill, Blackford Hill, Arthur's Seat et Castle Rock, donnant lieu à des allusions aux sept collines de Rome.
Avec l’Old Town, la New Town a été désignée site du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO en 1995 (WHL-728). La ville est le siège du Parlement écossais depuis le rétablissement de celui-ci en 1999.

The stair atria implemented into the design of this home are an efficient and creative utilization of the available space
