The trophic interaction in this photo is of producers. Producers provide nutrients and energy for the herbivores in my ecosystem, as well as the carnivores that feed on them. Essentially, the producers affect the entirety of my capstone area.
I believe that the most influential species in my area are the trees. I say this because the trees serves as an outline for the area as they extend down the riverside and along the perimeter of the forested are behind my apartment building. They shelter and feed many insect organisms as well as birds and squirrels. They also provide support for ivy and vine-like plants to grow on. If the trees were removed, there would be a smaller niche for birds, squirrels and insects to live in as the tree would no longer be there as protection from the elements. Also, there would be a shift in where nutrients are stored in my ecosystem. The soil along the riverside would also be affected because there are no longer large tree roots there to draw in moisture from the soil nor help keep the soil clumped (so as to avoid erosion). If the trees were replaced by an invasive species, I think that all of the forested areas in east lansing would be endangered by competition from this species.
According to the Slobodkin, Smith, and Hairston’s article three organisms from my first capstone would be limited by:
*The trees are producers and are limited by sun light, water, and availability of nutrients.
*The fly is a consumer and is limited by its prey, larger carnivores like frogs.
*The fungus in the tree root is a decomposer and is limited by the amount of detritous material to digest.
The fact that we live in a deep gravity well in a gas covered planet which goes around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and it still feels like another Tuesday proves the significance of perspective in our lives.
We believe that a right perspective can change our lives. TEDxGCEK, the youngest member of TED community plans to represent the same. TEDx speakers compel us to initiate, innovate and improvise the lives of people in ways that we never even knew existed.
Instead of searching for new ideas and inspiration one can simply look at things with different angles.TEDxGCEK aims to bring people from a different perspective to help change each others’ way of looking at the world.

This gibbon decided to come right up to the glass and a whole bunch of children flocked to get a better look. I wonder what kind of impact this interaction has on a child. I remember when I was younger I would be fascinated if a wild animal actually regarded me. I wonder if any of the children turned from the exhibit with the gibbons with a renewed sense of enjoyment for nature and a desire to keep this planet of ours healthy. 2008-2009.
