The Cloud, Aerosol, and Complex Terrain Interactions (CACTI) field campaign in the Sierras de Córdoba mountain range of north-central Argentina began in October 2018 and ended in April 2019. This region experiences some of the world’s largest and most destructive thunderstorms. CACTI’s goal was to help fill in knowledge gaps about how large regional convective storms form, grow, and organize.

Cook me. Black Bile (2011)
For Alter Nature: The Unnatural Animal, Van Balen is developing Cook Me. Black Bile, a new research project which continues to build on the themes addressed in his earlier work. Referencing old medical practices of control- led bloodletting to maintain the balance between the body fluids (Hippocrates), Van Balen releases a leech onto his arm. He later prepares a hearty meal using the blood- filled leech as his main ingredient. Black Bile refers to one of the four body fluids as determined by Hippocrates in his theory of the four humours (slime, blood, yellow bile and black bile). The balance between these fluids would not only determine physical health, but also influence the mental condition of each person. Black bile, for instance, is linked to the feature of melancholy (in Greek μελαγχολία, or literally black bile). Bloodletting was one of the main tools to maintain the physical and mental balance of each individual. The project proposes new interactions with one’s metabolism, through biosensing and biosynthesis, similar to the Synthetic Immune System. In Cook Me. Black Bile, these interactions are proposed as new forms of cooking with cooking experiments, new recipes and cooking tools, as can be seen in the shed. Van Balen is hoping to one day serve a dish cooked with the help of a parasite and a pinch of custom designed bacteria to balance his feeling of melan- choly.

I think the EOS M is going to be a great addition for the type of shooting I generally like to do. It arrived in the mail yesterday morning looking like new, with the 90ex flash and two lenses. The instruction book is about an inch thick.

I've wanted this for ages. It's a set of interviews with various people in the industry, and it's a big, heavy hardback with full-colour printing. Lovely, lovely stuff.
Eye Tracking Studies can be conducted at our Usability Lab, which also comprises of a Control Room, and a separate Focus Room which can cater for focus groups, requirements workshops, creativity workshops, and other events. These facilities, located in central London, are available for hire as well.

The Project
Willpower (William Ismael) + Carrie Mae Rose collaborate in the duo FLUID THUNDER for the interactive projection mapping of the tetrahedron winged computational fashion installation at Eyebeam (Art + Technology Center in New York City).

The Process
Carrie Mae creates hand-built wing structures out of wire tetrahedrons and fabric. Willpower codes 2 animations in Processing, which is an open-source programming language, development environment, and online community. He uses Leap Motion, which is a sensory technology, detecting human hands and fingers. He uses a Processing Library by onformative (a studio for generative design based in Berlin) called LeapMotionForProcessing to use Processing seemlessly with Leap Motion. Willpower attaches his interactive human generated animations to the Leap Motion sensor. They follow a person's hand movements in real-time and on key with accurate precision. The public interacts with the installation by activating the wings through their physical movements.

The Story
The animation displays beams of light representing solar neutrinos and the love we have access to at all times. Wings symbolize aspiration and ascension. The light is symbolic of angelic light coming from realms above, shining down to inspire and remind us that we are pure love in our hearts. The bubble eruptions represent both the thunderous fire energy residing inside our human forms and the Big Bang Theory that we are all becoming lighter and lighter each moment in time throughout our expansion into infinite space.

The Experience
Human beings generate the art on the angel wings by moving their hands. They become part of the art. They create the art. An ongoing 3D generative animation is mapped behind the wings. An interactive animation generated by people is mapped onto the wings. Without human movements, no animation is created on the tetrahedron angel wings. We include you to be part of the art because it is about us. It is about the interaction between the artists and the visitors. We communicate and transcend messages which are experienced beyond just looking at a piece by making you a co-creator of the piece. It is about us coming together and interacting in the space with 'others' we may have not engaged in a conversations with otherwise. It becomes an unique shared experience.

In today's workshop, the instructor gave us an assignment: make an image with the theme, "Interaction." "Ten minutes!" she shouts. "Let's go!"
This is when my camera battery decided to quit. And because I was working with a borrowed tripod and head, disentangling the camera to replace the battery took up most of my ten minutes. I did submit something, but I don't think you want to see it. I felt like such a bumbler.
So instead, I give you this, which I just finished tweaking and am very fond of. Lots of interaction in here; I especially like the "eye" at the top center.
Bit of charity work covering the visit of an American Miniature Horse as therapy to a Residential Home for Dementia residents. I appears to some the the picture depicts one of joy.
