I went with my friend Raphaël to do a photo session of expressive dance in the different installations at the Arsenal museum in August 2020.

Cultural theorist Stuart Hall’s influential essay « Endoding and Docoding in the Television discourse » is animated as a stream of letters that from time to time assemble to form each sentence of the text. The directions of the text follows the position of the visitor in the room.

For 12th-century canons, the Priory of Saint-Cosme—located less than an hour’s walk from Tours—was "a paradise on earth making it easier to reach true paradise." The long history of this monastery, now owned by the Indre-et-Loire Departmental Council, was revealed through major archaeological excavations conducted in 2009–2010.

It is best known as the home of Ronsard, who served as its prior from 1565 to 1585; the house where he lived still stands today. The poet died on the premises and is buried in the former church. New gardens and an interactive exhibition trail have recently restored the site's full historical, spiritual, and poetic significance.

Many thanks for your much appreciated favorites and comments.

The graves you see here account for about one-sixteenth of all those at the Memorial.

In addition to being the largest American cemetery in Europe, the Romagne-sous-Montfaucon Memorial is above all an impressive building. It's a site full of emotion, where you can discover the history of the Meuse-Argonne offensive of the First World War, and the men who gave their lives in the name of freedom.

In Rhythmus, the finger, and by extension the body, become the means to connect both to our biological rhythm and circular interactive sculpture.

Rhythmus is an installation that materializes the heartbeat of two people, who face each other, are connected to a circular network of interactive light totems.

These strata of light will "live" in connection with the heart rate of users. A collection of interactive boards will be deployed and evolve according to the synchronization, or not, pulsations of users.

Inaugurated on October 18, 2000, this monument entitled "Women are Persons!" is a tribute to Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards. Known as the Famous Five, these women won the "Persons" Case, a 1929 court ruling which legally declared women as persons under the British North America Act and made them eligible for appointment to the Canadian Senate

The larger-than-life sculptures by Edmonton artist Barbara Paterson were donated to the Government of Canada by the Famous 5 Foundation. They show the five women celebrating their important legal victory in characteristic poses. An empty chair adds an interactive feature to the monument that invites passers-by to join the group. The newspaper with the headline "Women are Persons" that Nellie McClung is holding reflects some of the actual headlines of newspapers of the day.

Nellie L. McClung (1873-1951), novelist, journalist, suffragette and temperance worker. She was a member of the Alberta legislature, the only woman on the Dominion War Council, and the first woman on the CBC Board of Governors.

Irene Parlby (1868-1965), suffragette and politician. She was elected president of the women's branch of the United Farmers of Alberta in 1916 and became a member of the Alberta legislature in 1921. She was still a member of Parliament at the time of the Persons Case.

Emily G. Murphy (1868-1933), instigator of the Persons Case, writer, and first woman magistrate in the British Empire. She pioneered married women's rights, was National President of the Canadian Women's Press Club 1913-1920, vice-president of the National Council of Women and first president of the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada.

Henrietta Muir Edwards, (1849-1931), journalist, suffragist and organizer, fought for equal rights for wives, mothers' allowances and women's rights. She started the Working Girls' Association in Montréal in 1875, a forerunner of the YWCA. Later, while living in Alberta, she compiled two works on Alberta and federal laws affecting women and children.

Louise McKinney (1868-1931), politician and temperance campaigner. She was president of the Dominion Women's Christian Union and elected to the Alberta legislature in 1917 as representative of the non-partisan league.

🇬🇧 The artist: Thomas Dambo is considered the world's first recycling artist, having been instilled with the value of recycling, sustainability and limitless imagination from an early age.

The artist initially led a multifaceted life, expressing his creativity through music, street art and set design. After completing a Master's degree in Interactive Design at Kolding School of Design, Thomas began his current career using recycled materials to create colourful art installations, which laid the foundation for his current artistic work.

Thomas' high level of creativity leads to the creation of highly interactive experiences that allow users to express their individuality on a grand scale. From recycled plastic gardens to a Christmas market cobbled together from commercial waste, Thomas creates immersive, interactive and awe-inspiring experiences.

As part of his project 'The Trail of a Thousand Trolls', Thomas is now famous for his larger than life troll sculptures, all made from recycled wood. More than 100 creatures around the world now trace their own lives.

The artist continues to create works of art that invite people to explore and have adventures in nature, demonstrating that waste can be transformed into something beautiful.

Eve 2050 - Van Grimde Corps Secrets

vangrimdecorpssecrets.com/oeuvres/eve-2050/

An interactive, evolving triptych

How, in the near future, can the boundaries of the body and its identity be redefined?

Eve 2050 invites audiences to engage in an artistic, aesthetic and ethical reflection on the future of human beings and the body in an age of digital technology, biomedical advances and artificial intelligence.

Combining dance, video, music, visual and digital arts, the work takes on various forms to be presented in theatres, public spaces and online.

The result is a fascinating integration of life and technology.

One work, three components

Through its three components, Eve 2050 combines the vibrant force of actual physical presence with the magical transformations and ubiquity made possible by technology. Nature and culture are reconciled in this meeting between the primal body—its ancestral heritage expressed through a visceral gestural vocabulary—and the body of the future, transformed by its connection with technology.

Technological innovation

Eve 2050 is a particularly innovative project in its artistic use of digital technologies.

It is based on a novel association of different image analysis and processing applications, movement sensing systems, and the latest interactive technologies.

Most of the visual effects that transform Eve in the web series are generated in real time by interactive technology, not in post-production.

This process makes it possible to reproduce the same effects on the bodies of spectators who are exploring the digital installation, and on the dancers performing the work on stage.

Technology is used in the service of dance, creating a unique experience for each spectator.

A sad thought to the victims and the dead of Verviers which was ravaged by the raging Vesdre two weeks ago.

The Maison de l'Eau is located in a famous monument of the industrial heritage of the City of Verviers: the Maison Bonvoisin, named after its first owner, Pierre de Bonvoisin. Built between 1727 and 1735, it served as the employers' house but also as a cloth-making workshop. It is the last example of a proto-factory, that is to say a factory, from Verviers.

This house was completely renovated to become in 2004 an interpretation center on the water. You can discover the Vesdre, the watercourse at the heart of the Verviers development, or the Gileppe Dam, through a fun and interactive course. It also talks about water treatment in Belgium and in particular wastewater treatment plants.

I went back this week to the Galerie de l’UQAM where I had photographed Maude (my stranger # 48) a few weeks earlier. I had seen enthusiastic reviews about the current exhibition, “Do it”. The opening night had drawn a crowd of 900 persons, a rather large figure for a contemporary art event in a university. It was well covered in mass media. If that opening night was a memorable date, my visit to the exhibition on a regular Thursday – with only a handful of visitors in the hall - was a non-event. One was left to read instructions prescribed by artists to other artist while not much was happening. I figured I would go back an evening where there would be performances to make myself a better idea of the process. It was a good idea, there was a crowd that evening, not as large as on the opening night, but the place was alive.

I had taken my camera thinking I would come back with pictures of members of the UQAM community. Things turned out a bit differently. Between two performances, I approached two friends together in the attendance. It turned out they were student of another university, Concordia. Tonight I’ll tell you a little about Kenny whose portrait you see above, tomorrow about his friend, Jojo.

Kenny is from Hong-Kong. When I asked him why he was in Montréal, he modestly told me he was an art student specialized in Media art and handed me is visit card so I could forward him photos. I managed to get decent shots of the two of them before the performance but we didn’t get to speak very much.

When I got home and looked up his web site, I realized he was already a known artist with exhibitions in over ten countries in different continents. He uses cutting edge technologies to create works and environments – some of them interactive - that challenge our physical an emotional perceptions. Kenny makes interesting use of light, darkness, shadows and sounds. I strongly encourage you to have a look at his site.kennywong.co/recent/

Not sure where to start? Try this video but make sure to sample another one as well: kennywong.co/2009/human-body/

Eager to expand his creative universe, he is enrolled in the MFA – Sculpture program at Concordia University. He is a classmate of Adam, the painter I had met at the Museum of Fine Arts (stranger # 48).

I crossed his path again the following day at the Belgo, another art venue. We had time to chat a few minutes. He told me To my surprise, that the help he received from Canadian institutions as a foreign student was greater than what he could expect back home.

I’ll be keeping an eye open to see what come out of Kenny’s local projects and wish him long term success.

/ / This is our new bus stop since last fall. Both screens are suppose to be fancy high tech interactive displays but not much happening so far. I just realized that I forgot to draw the traffic lights and the city lights, etc, !!! The park seen on the right is Parc Maisonneuve, adjacent to the Botannical garden of Montreal. During the winter season, you can go to this park for cross-country skiiing, snowshoeing and walking. There is also an ice rink.

Ryan Gander has established an international reputation through artworks that materialise in many different forms – from sculpture to film, writing, graphic design, installation, performance and more besides. Through associative thought processes that connect the everyday and the esoteric, the overlooked and the commonplace, Gander’s work involves a questioning of language and knowledge, as well as a reinvention of both the modes of appearance and the creation of an artwork. His work can be reminiscent of a puzzle, or a network with multiple connections and the fragments of an embedded story. It is ultimately a huge set of hidden clues to be deciphered, encouraging viewers to make their own associations and invent their own narrative in order to unravel the complexities staged by the artist.

Ryan Gander (born 1976, Chester, UK) lives and works in Suffolk and London. He studied at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK; the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, Netherlands; and the Jan van Eyck Akademie, Maastricht, Netherlands. The artist has been a Professor of Visual Art at the University of Huddersfield and holds an honorary Doctor of the Arts at the Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Suffolk.

En 2009, son installation Matthew Young falls from the 1985 into a white room (Maybe this is that way it issupposed to happen), jongle ainsi avec les références.

Installations, narrations, sculptures, dispositifs interactifs…

Pour cette dernière, il présente la pièce I Need Some Meaning I Can Memorise (The Invisible Pull). En 2013, le Frac Île-de-France (Le Plateau) présente « Make every show like it’s your last ».
