It was very cold for me, so I'm sure these ducks in the icy waters noticed the chill!

I could easily be wrong, but I think these may be Long-tailed Ducks, non-breeding females.

Thanks for looking, and any input:)

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One of Los Angeles' most iconic landmarks, the Hollywood sign, is getting a make-over. Crews power washed it, grinded the rust away and are now adding a new coat of paint. The Hollywood Sign Trust oversees the sign and said it was time to get this done.

"The last time that we painted the sign was in 2012 and paint lasts about 10 years," said Jeff Zarrinnam, Hollywood Sign Trust chair. "The Hollywood sign is just not a symbol of a place, it's a symbol of the entertainment industry."

According to the trust, up to 400 gallons of donated primer and paint will be used for the facelift. But this time, the sign is getting a special kind of paint in honor of its upcoming centennial birthday.

"They named the special paint after us, yeah, it's called Hollywood Sign Centennial White and you can buy it now in any Sherwin-Williams paint store," said Zarrinnam. "And the reason why it's called centennial [is] because we're gonna be celebrating the Hollywood sign's hundred years in 2023."

Roger Martinez is with the paint team helping get the job done.

"Everything took us a few days to set it up," said Martinez, superintendent at Duggan and Associates. "I feel excited extremely, like everybody from all across the world, country - [they] come here, they come and see Hollywood."

Crews are expected to be done with the makeover mid-October.

The Hollywood Sign Trust wants community input if people would like to see the sign with lights. Folks can head in over to their Instagram @hollywoodsign23 to share their thoughts.

I watched this inchworm climb all over this Cutleaf Coneflower, trying to get somewhere else...

The bees kept climbing over him, until he eventually got to a leaf on a different flower.

I don't know the ID of this "Inchworm", so if anyone has any idea of what it is, I'd appreciate the input.

Thank you for visiting - ❤ with gratitude! Fave if you like it, add comments below, like the Facebook page, order beautiful HDR prints at qualityHDR.com.

The other night I went to downtown San Jose, California. It was the closing night of the Sonic Runway art display, located in front of the city hall. The Sonic Runway (bit.ly/2GhhWRH) is a corridor of lights that visualizes the speed of sound. The installation consists of a series of concentric rings, each lined with 277 addressable LEDs. Live audio input is analyzed and converted into a variety of intricate patterns that race down the corridor at the speed of sound (about 343 m/sec). Standing at the front of the Runway, you can see the beats of the music rippling away from you.

Three ladies had fun with selfies at the runway. I offered to take photos and send them later. Here is a candid shot.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully adjusted the color balance and the curves. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.

Taken from the alley at the back of the Cathedral of Santa Maria; building was begin in the 16th century and lasted into the18th century and included input from Michelangelo. However, the cathedral is not the most famous of the churches in Padua and seems to suffer from an inferiority complex: there was no name on the door other than a rather generic "Cattedrale".

This little American Pika can be forgiven for not understanding the coming devastating effects of climate change. It has a brain that is about the size of a lima bean which is engaged primarily in day to day survival. Many pikas never see a human being, so they can be forgiven for not understanding that we are directly responsible for the global warming that may very well cause the demise of some of their populations in parts of North America.

No such forgiveness should be granted to a U.S. President who, in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence, simply chooses to not believe that humans are responsible for climate change.

The National Climate Assessment draws on input from 13 federal agencies, including NASA and the Defense Department, with contributions from 300 scientists. The latest volume spans more than 1,600 pages, and a key recurring theme is that climate change will be devastating...

POTUS, response: "I don't believe it".

Tell it to the pika President T.

Another version of this beautiful staircase, this time in portrait format. It looks a bit more dynamic this way and the composition is better – thank you so much for your input, Karsten.

Eine weitere Variante im Hochformat von dieser wunderschönen Treppe. So kommt sie etwas dynamischer und die Komposition ist besser - herzlichen Dank für Deinen Input, Karsten.

This is a remake of an old Photoshop creation. I finally found a scene that was dangerous looking enough to place us in. Not sure how convincing it looks: let me know what you think (I often go through several iterations of fixing these things up before I feel comfortable with them, so all input is appreciated).

I don't get a lot of time to do photos like this any more, so just happy when I can make a few hours to work on one.

Sgt. Todd Kleisner said the department ordered nine new Chevrolet Impalas with black paint, a blue stripe and sleek logos for a modern look. The vehicle is reflective and easier to see at night.

The old cars were white with green and gold graphics.

“We’ve been driving white cars for about 16 years,” Kleisner said. “The graphics on those cars are that old as well, so it was time for an update.”

Chief Dave Moore asked officers if they wanted to change the squads. He formed a committee with officers from each shift to work on a new design.

Officers looked at squad cars in other jurisdictions, Kleisner said. They also looked at designs in law enforcement magazines and on the Internet.

Officers on the committee asked others on their shift what they wanted in colors and design, he said.

Sign-A-Rama then created three different options for the new squads, Kleisner said. Officers voted for their favorites.

“We took officer input,” he said. “It wasn’t just the committee’s ideas. It was basically everybody.”

The new cars also have a redesigned interior, Kleisner said. They have more room and are more comfortable.

The department gets new squad cars for about half its fleet every year, Kleisner said. The fleet includes 17 patrol cars, two K-9 patrol cars and five cars for school resource officers.

“Everybody really seems to like them a lot,” Kleisner said.

"We’ve even been getting some positive comments from the general public.”
