ink spilled into the sink

Exploring techniques used to make last week's Currents pendant, I made four new Kato Clay pendents. Starting with light blue clay, I used various instruments to creates lines and patterns. Next, I used black, blue and green PearlEx powders and cured the clay. After curing, I used Dockyard wood carving tools to add design and texture. Finally, I used Alcohol inks to enhance both colors and harmonize the design. Coupled with hand dyed silk cords.

...mandala style. Drawn paint straight in...no lead...I used pen at the end for detailing...:)

Pear ink sample from Goulet pens was used up, so I started the new one, Noodler's.

"It's spring fever.

That is what the name of it is.

And when you've got it, you want -

oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want,

but it just fairly makes your heart ache,

you want it so!"

Another addition to my abstract photography unit. I photographed the stages of ink mixing when dripped into water.

I recorded some videos of ink and paint in water a while back. I wanted to upload some of them to flickr since video uploading is available now. The song is Bjork's "Pleasure is All Mine"

My great-grandfather's ink drawing of a locomotive. He would have drawn this in high school when he was about 15 years old. D.O.B. (geb.) 1857. Sheetsize is 50cm x 33cm.

Though, I am not sure whether 1857 is the date of birth. I have a dated photo of my great-grandfather who was born in 1830 and died in December 1914. Therefore, he would have been 27 when he drew this locomotive. This is a bit of a puzzle to me... Unless "Geb 1857" = "Get. 1857" (getan/done, in German).

Drawing straight lines appears to be in our (the 'Temperli') blood. In high school, I was the first girl who was permitted to join the boys in the elective of technical drawing. Though, my wonderful mum had to put in a really good word for me and, eventually, the teacher relented and I was able to join the class. Later on, I also managed to get into another boys' elective, woodwork, also as the first girl and a few more girls joined later on as well.

Great-grandfather, grand-father, as well as my father, became farmers. I became an architectural detail draftswoman - keeping the tradition of drawing straight lines in the family :)

...much like this sketchbook page...

has been a mosaic of intertwined activities...

one layered upon the next...for the past month or so.

This page was started in December

with the heat lamp drawn in the lower right corner.

It was drawn while waiting for Marlene

over at Birt's cafe.

We were to have a zentangle inspired drawing date.

We met,

we drew a little,

and we ended up gabbing a whole lot more.

Since that was the only item on the page...

I decided to incorporate it

into a series of drawings...like a collage effect.

Well...

then came multiple health issues with my parents...

and my surgical waiting room time

quickly

became packed jammed with

tiny circles and crosshatching patterns.

I really had no intention

of filling in all the gravel areas

with such detail...it just happened.

It was my way of coping...and de-stressing.

Before I knew it

the page had become full.

The actual view is of part of my parents back yard

and if you look really closely

you can see that the dates I worked on the piece

are embedded into the drawing.

I painted it just the other night...in under

a half hour or so.

That was the first time in over a month

where

I was able to let the paint fly

and

allow my Muse to simply play.

It felt so darned good...it really, really did.

So very much more to share...later.

Ink and watercolour, as loose as I could.

Parker 45 and Montblanc Washable blue ink.

Calligraphy is so much fun! So I was looking through some boxes when I came across some of my old Windsor ink pots. I got really excited because at that very moment, sun was streaming through my window and my camera was sitting on the desk behind me.

The third mountain scene is also Chinese in style. I think I will do some more work along these lines for awhile.

My first painting in my new watercolor Moleskine.

On a hike through Johnston Canyon, Banff, Alberta with a couple of friends we made our way to the Ink Pots which is a beautiful clearing in between a massive range of mountains where natural springs bubble up from the Earth. I saw this couple enjoying a late afternoon snack and the scene was so beautiful that I had to capture the moment.
