View from great cheap kebab place.

I origianlly intended to draw the historic village of Alpirsbach but the car charger app didn’t work there, so I came here to charge instead. It, weirdly, smelt of manure here.

I didn’t intend to sketch and even left my stool at home. I passed this building in perfect light and had to sketch it. There was even a base for a temporary sign for me to sit on at exactly the right spot. A fellow Karlsruhe Urban Sketcher came over for a chat.

The owner told me it was a 1976 model with loads of modifications.

Training myself to draw has been an interesting exercise. I studied the workds of Nicolas de Crecy, the Rat Rod artists, Stephan Marjoram, R.Crumb, S.Clay Wilson and many others. While I certainly will never develop the kind of talent they had, this has been a good way to "kill time" during the various periods of lockdown here in France during the Covid Pandemic.

While I would have liked to claim this motif as an original idea, my illustration is actually based on a motif that is centuries old. It's called 'The Three Hares' and its origin has been traced back to the 6th Century AD (or CE - Common Era) in China. It seems that many other religions and cultures around the world have also used this rather mesmerizing optical illusion. I enjoyed sketching it in this simple state, doodling around with the background.

Bien que j'aurais aimer revendiquer ce motif comme une idée originale, mon illustration est en réalité basée sur un motif vieux de plusieurs siècles. Il s'appelle ˂Les trois lapins˃ et son origine remonte au 6ième siècle AD (ou EC - ère commune) en Chine. Il semble que de nombreuses autres religions et cultures à travers le monde ont également utilisé cette illusion optique. J'ai aimé dessiner cet image dans cet état simple, gribouillant l'arrière-plan.

I drew this on a red-eye flight while I was bored. I made it with a pilot pen, and added some values with a water brush pen after we landed.

Pretty much when I peaked. It was all downhill from here.
