Diabetes injecting insulin syringe shot by single use small needle with dose of lantus 2 inches away from belly button isolated on a white background

Description : Corals have radial symmetry. The polyp is a small tubular sac with three tissue layers. The mouth is at one end surrounded by tentacles (8 for soft corals and multiples of 6 for stony corals). The opposite end or base is attached to a hard surface such as a smooth rock or dead coral. Both food and waste move through the mouth. Respiration occurs through the body surface. Tentacles contain stinging nematocysts that are long curled threads with a barbed end. When a tiny sensor outside the nematocyst is stimulated physically or chemically, the venom filled thread inside explodes and injects venom into the victim. Corals have no brain. A simple nervous system called a nerve net extends from the mouth to the tentacles. Chemoreceptor cells can detect sugars and amino acids which enable the coral to detect prey.

In reef builders the mouth leads to a stomach cavity with long, partitions called mesenteries which provide increased surface for digestion. Long mobile filaments extend from the mesenteries through the mouth to capture food. These filaments also contain germ cells.

Stony corals secrete a cup around the polyp of calcium carbonate which forms the exoskeleton. Polyps may divide to form a colony, but each polyp maintains a connection through the stomach withits neighbor. Each polyp can withdraw almost completely into its protective cup. Natural pigments in the tissue of some species range from white, orange, red, yellow, green, blue, and purple. In others, the zooanthellae are so numerous within the coral tissue that they give the coral a greenish-brown appearance.

Soft corals lack the limestone exoskeleton. Instead there are internal clumps of calcium carbonate spicules throughout the tissue for support. These corals produce terpenoids and other toxins that prevent algae, worms, and barnacles from living on them. These chemicals also kill nearby organisms that might block sunlight. Soft corals are often brilliant red or orange.

Distribution : Corals make up a huge collection of varied species, but can generally be divided into two types: reef builders and non-reef builders.

Stony corals or reef builders are found in clear warm shallow oceans. These waters are found mainly between 30 degrees N and 30 degrees S in the western Atlantic and Indo Pacific Oceans. Colder currents on the western coasts of continents prevent reef growth. Most of the over 4,000 species are in the Indo Pacific Ocean. Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with over 400 species of corals (350 of these being hard coral species, with many more soft corals yet to be described and studied) is a World Heritage site and runs more than 2,000km (1,240 miles).

Soft corals are found wherever there are reefs, but they are not limited to warm waters and even occur in Antarctica. They make up about 37% of the Great Barrier Reef and usually are the first to colonize new areas.

Corals have been found in Cambrian rocks that are over 570 million years old. These early corals disappeared during periods of world wide extinction. Most of today’s corals arose since the dinosaur extinction and date back 20 to 50 million years.

Habitat : Stony corals need sunlight, warm ocean temperatures, currents, and a hard surface to attach to. Because the main energy source of these corals is a symbiotic relationship between the coral polyp and the algae, zooanthellae, they need bright sunlight and are found no deeper than 46m (150feet). They grow faster in clear water that lets more light through. These corals also require water temperatures between 20-28 C (62-82 F). A few species in the Red Sea are known to survive 38 C water, but usually waters that warm cause coral bleaching in which the symbiotic algae are expelled. Unless the temperature cools down or the coral can attract another algal species, it will die. Strong waves help corals by carrying food, nutrients, and oxygen. Waves also distribute the planulae larvae and help prevent sedimentation.

Soft corals can survive in a wider temperature range, but otherwise need similar light, ocean currents, and hard surfaces for polyp attachment.

Food : Coral polyps are sessile (attached at the base) filter feeders of zooplankton, small fish, and organic debris. At night they extend their tentacles to capture food with their nematocysts. Soft corals may also feed during the day. In general oceans are nutrient poor. The main energy source of these corals is the symbiotic zooanthellae that live in the coral tissue and use sunlight to photosynthesize oxygen and sugars. The coral uses these energy sources and produces carbon dioxide and ammonia wastes for the zooanthellae. This relationship is so successful that some species are able to grow 20cm (8 inches) per year. Other reef animals such as soft corals, anemones, giant clams, and sponges share this symbiosis. Coral species lacking these algae feed on plankton alone, grow very slowly, and are found in deeper water and dark caves.

Reproduction and Development : Coral reproduction is both sexual and asexual. Some species are both male and female in the same individual (hermaphrodites), while others are male or female. Both sexes may occur in colonies or a colony may be only one sex.

a) In stony corals germ cells are borne on mesenteries that radiate from the endoderm. When fertilization is internal, eggs are brooded within the polyp for days to weeks. Eventually free swimming planula larvae are released. Usually within hours, the larvae swim down and settle on a hard surface where they develop into the founder or parent polyp which begins to form a colony. In external fertilization, sperm and eggs are broadcast. The fertilized eggs drift upward toward the light and develop in the plankton. Survivors in hours or weeks develop into planulae larvae and also settle on a hard surface. In stony corals the symbiotic algae are transmitted to the egg by the parents.

b) Most soft corals are male or female, form large colonies, produce large numbers of gametes, and broadcast their eggs and sperm. Broadcasting is more efficient in terms of the number of larvae produced. The larvae are in the water longer and suffer more predation, but there is a better chance of them being carried farther from the parent colony. This is why soft corals usually reach new areas first and are found all over the world whereas brooded larvae usually settle close to the parent colony. Soft coral planulae larvae settle down after several days. They obtain the symbiotic zooanthellae through the mouth at this time. When eggs and sperm are broadcast, spawning is often synchronized and usually occurs once a year shortly after a full moon.

Both corals also exhibit asexual reproduction. This occurs when the founding or parent polyp begins to produce new polyps by budding. In stony corals each polyp remains connected by its stomach to its neighbor. Soft corals also reproduce by budding. Species of Efflatounaria also are able to form a long runner called a stolon. After the parent polyp moves some of its own tissue through the stolon, a new polyp is formed. Then the stolon is reabsorbed forming two separate colonies.

Fragmentation, a process in which pieces are broken off during storms or other accidents is another method of asexual reproduction in both types of coral. If these pieces are able to connect to a hard service, they will continue to reproduce forming another colony. This is the method used for conservation programs.

Adaptations : The most important adaptation for reef corals is the symbiotic relationship between the coral and microscopic algae, ZOOANTHELLAE, which lives within its tissue and gives coral a big energy boost. Without this relationship reefs would not grow large or maybe not at all. By removing carbon dioxide from the water, zooanthellae also promote calcification. This enables the reef to build up faster than it can be eroded. Another relationship occurs between corals and sea grass or mangrove forests. Both mangroves and sea grass help reefs by trapping sediment that could smother the coral. In return the reef protects them from erosion by waves.

Nematocysts contain TOXINS used to capture food and for defense.

CHEMORECTORS detect sugars and amino acids to help the coral detect prey. The protective SKELETON is formed when hard corals secrete a calcium carbonate cup around them and retreat inside when threatened. Soft corals produce toxins that are unappetizing and deter predators. Other toxins kill species around them that compete for light.

Some corals can change SHAPE with varying amounts of light or wave action. In reef builders, connections between polyps allow those away from the food source to benefit.

Threats to Survival : Natural threats help the reef in the same way that strangler figs bring down old rain forest trees to make way for new growth. They include a sponge that bores in and weakens the skeleton. Boring sea urchins tunnel in 11cm (5.5 inches) and sit at the entrance to feed. Long spined black sea urchins scrape the reef for algae and other food. They help clean the reef, but attract mollusks and trigger fish which eat them and pieces of the reef. The debris from all this filters down and is cemented into the reef. One of the most dangerous reef predators is the crown of thorns sea star which feeds on the fleshy polyps by everting its stomach as it lies on the reef. Serious outbreaks of these sea stars have recently killed large sections of the Great Barrier Reef. Possible causes are over fishing of sea star predators such as giant clams, trigger fish, and puffer fish. Another reef predator is the parrot fish that bite off pieces of living coral.

As with many other threatened species, today the reef is also damaged by activities of humans which threaten to unbalance the reefs predator prey relationships. For example, pollution from agricultural runoff increases nutrients that promote the growth of phytoplankton that the sea star eats. When the forests are clear cut, the soil washed into the sea smothers the delicate polyps. Over fishing also damages the predator/prey balance. Reefs can regenerate, but when coral predators increase, the reef structure becomes vulnerable to storms and large sections of the reef are damaged or die. Humans also harvest blocks of coral for building, burn coral skeletons to produce lime, and dredge harbors.

Status : All corals are listed on CITES appendix II.

A completely off-the-shelf solution for a handheld packet-injection-capable security testing device.

After secretly injecting my personal interest of photography in our merchandising for the past 4 years, I was finally granted to have such a real section in the new APM LOG-ON store. If I were to propose such section on day 1, it wouldn't be approved, it would be subjected to a series of scrutiny, inquiry, doubts and attacks, eventually became an unfinished project on corporate earth.

I'm thankful even though it takes time for them. But in the process I figured all forces mysteriously working together towards this hidden agenda, mysteriously! Through numerous small projects, vendors getting more mature, customer showing more interests, higher standard is achieved..... I'm intrigued. All these require just one single binding force of good will and aspiration. Well, it is no big achievement but for myself it is rewarding enough.

The Photography retail business on earth is amazingly boring. You want a camera you walk into a camera shop, you want something printed you go to a lab, you want gadgets you go back to a camera shop. There is no CONTENT and sharing in all of them. On the surface, if you go to this Photography section of ours, it can appear all too commercial, composed with brands like Lomography, KOLO, Canon, Fuji Film, Umbra, etc. But look, there are people behind these brands working hard to bring out the fun and aesthetics to everyday lives. What's lacking in this industry is just a place to find and share contents. I'm not saying this very section is in its ultimate form, but it is a start, a very primitive start.

If you remember the "Our Last Polaroids" event last year (community photos here, here, here, here, here, here and here), it is the best memory I got in this journey. The online and offline community worked hand in hand to pull off this 2 week exhibition and gathering. It is the nearest form of the ultimate Photography gathering space in my mind.

Well back to reality. The most appealing thing about this area is that it is not a camera shop or lab. I gathered quite a few things related to analog, film, album, frame, photography, polaroid camera and films, lighters, key chains, instax, lomo, superheadz, prisms, etc. You can say it is a collage in retail form. Again, I'm not proud of its current state yet, I'm only proud of the process. So there's still a lot to do.

BTW, FujiFilm Hong Kong gave us great support recently. They made us this little Instax town display for our new store launch. Very creative use of instax film on paper made figures! How lovely.

In 1841 Springfield Hospital opened on 14th June as the first Surrey County Lunatic Asylum for Paupers in the London Borough of Wandsworth, Tooting. In 1938 97 acres of land had been purchased of an estate, Springfield Park which was so named due to the spring running through it. The original buildings were designed by Middlesex County surveyor Mr W. Moseley who had also previously designed the sprawling Middlesex Asylum in Hanwell.

Springfield was a fine specimen to behold in its time with state-of-the-art design features such as steam which was circulated through the galleries to keep the hospital at a constant temperature and hot air which was injected through the floors. The administration block was impressively designed, surrounded by a corridor plan layout and grand sweeping lawns (with a stone carved fountain) which flanked the original reception area although this has since been drastically modernised and now serves as the back of the site. Lunacy and melancholia were but a few of the commonly diagnosed symptoms being treated and numbers during the asylum's peak capacity reached just over 2000 patients and staff.

In 1856 a patient named Daniel Dolley was accidentally killed in the asylum under the orders of medical superintendant, Charles Snape during a routine hydrotherapy chastisement. The patient who was 65 had been acting hyperactively previously that day and was subjected to 28 minutes of cold water showering. Orders were given for the treatment to be followed with the administration of 2 grains of potassium antimony tartrate which is a poisonous crystalline compound often used in the treatment of parasitic infections and which can cause severe gastric inflammation. Daniel Dolley suffered a fatal convulsion only a few minutes after the treatment ceased.

Charles Snape was later charged with manslaughter, however the jury later stated that he had no case to answer and he was sent back to work at Springfield.

Recent years have seen the Institution at the focus of a great deal of media attention and controversy due to a high number of violent crimes relating to Springfield patient 'escapees'. The Freedom of Information Act revealed that 30 patients have escaped from secure wards in the hospital since 2005. In 2009 the Hospital has already experienced 2 absconds and 1 escape, one of whom is a rapist named Barrington Gordon as reported by a London Paper.

Much to the outrage of local residents the hospital boasts that it is not a high security facility but is only medium secure, yet the hospital receives 'day trips' from criminally insane patients from maximum security facilities such as Broadmoor. Perhaps the successful rehabilitation and support provided by a hospital of this scale is easily overlooked when it is overshadowed by so many systematic safety failures.

Springfield certainly appears to be a strange mix of open wards where people are free to 'walk through' in stark contrast to other areas that resemble a maximum security facility with courtyards penned off by curved edged fencing. In February 2009 a convicted killer named Paul Caesar who was on unescorted leave within the hospital grounds absconded and committed suicide on rail tracks.

In 2004 a patient who had escaped stabbed a man to death in Richmond Park. Another sad incident happened in 2000 when a patient named Anthony Josef was discharged only to stalk and murder his social worker, Jenny Morrison, who cared for him. Again, in 2006 a patient randomly killed fitness instructor Matthew Carter. And previously in 2003 a male nurse named Mamade Chattun was brutally beaten to death in the Hospital lobby by patient, Joseph Cann who had been sectioned the previous day.

The hospital accepted a fine of £28,000 in court and pleaded guilty to neglect resulting in Mamade's inability to seek any help or alert the authorities during the frenzied attack; he was provided with no attack alarm or radio for his safety and the nearby wall alarm was broken as were several others around the hospital.

Mazda RX7 Second generation (FC):

The Series 4 (1986–1988) was available with a naturally aspirated, fuel-injected 13B-VDEI producing 146 hp (108 kW). An optional turbocharged model, (1987–1988) known as the Turbo II in the American market, had 182 hp / 185 ps (135 kW). The Series 5 (1989–1992) featured updated styling and better engine management, as well as lighter rotors and a higher compression ratio, 9.7:1 for the naturally aspirated model, and 9.0:1 for the turbo model. The naturally aspirated Series 5 FC made 160 hp (119 kW), while the Series 5 Turbo made 200 hp / 205 ps (147 kW).

The second generation RX-7 ("FC", VIN begins JM1FC3 or JMZFC1), still known as the Mazda Savanna RX-7 in Japan, featured a complete restyling reminiscent of the Porsche 924. Mazda's stylists, led by Chief Project Engineer Akio Uchiyama, focused on the Porsche 924 for their inspiration in designing the FC because the new car was being styled primarily for the American market, where the majority of first generation RX-7's had been sold.

This strategy was chosen after Uchiyama and others on the design team spent time in the United States studying owners of earlier RX-7's and other sports cars popular in the American market. The Porsche 944 was selling particularly well at the time and provided clues as to what sports-car enthusiasts might find compelling in future RX-7 styling and equipment.

While the SA22/FB was a purer sports car, the FC tended toward the softer sport-tourer trends of its day, sharing some similarities with the HB series Cosmo. Handling was much improved, with less of the oversteer tendencies of the FB. The rear end design was vastly improved from the FB's live rear axle to a more modern, Independent Rear Suspension (rear axle). Steering was more precise, with rack and pinion steering replacing the old recirculating ball steering of the FB. Disc brakes also became standard, with some models (S4: Sport, GXL, GTU, Turbo II, Convertible; S5: GXL, GTUs, Turbo, Convertible) offering four-piston front brakes. The rear seats were optional in some models of the FC RX-7, but are not commonly found in the American Market. Mazda also introduced Dynamic Tracking Suspension System (DTSS) in the 2nd generation RX-7. The revised independent rear suspension incorporated special toe control hubs which were capable of introducing a limited degree of passive rear steering under cornering loads. The DTSS worked by allowing a slight amount of toe-out under normal driving conditions but induced slight toe-in under heavier cornering loads at around 0.5 G's or more; toe-out in the rear allows for a more responsive rotation of the rear, but toe-in allowed for a more stable rear under heavier cornering. Mazda also introduced Auto Adjusting Suspension (AAS) in the 2nd generation RX-7. The system changed damping characteristics according to the road and driving conditions. The system compensated for camber changes and provided anti-dive and anti-squat effects. The Turbo 2 uses a turbo charger with a twin scroll design. The smaller primary chamber is engineered to cancel the turbo lag at low engine speeds. At higher revolutions the secondary chamber is opened, pumping out 33% more power than the naturally aspirated counterpart. The Turbo 2 also has an air-to-air intercooler which has a dedicated intake on the hood. The intake is slightly offset toward the left side of the hood.

Though about 800 lb (363 kg) heavier and more isolated than its predecessor, the FC continued to win accolades from the press. The FC RX-7 was Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year for 1986, and the Turbo II was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for a second time in 1987.

In the Japanese market, only the turbo engine was available; the naturally aspirated version was allowed only as an export. This can be attributed to insurance companies penalizing turbo cars (thus restricting potential sales). This emphasis on containing horsepower and placating insurance companies to make RX-7's more affordable seems ironic in retrospect. Shortly after the discontinuance of the second generation RX-7's in 1992, an outright horsepower "arms race" broke out between sports car manufacturers, with higher and higher levels of power required to meet buyer demands. This rising horsepower phenomena arose from the US CAFE standards remaining stable while engine technologies marched forward rapidly.

Mazda sold 86,000 RX-7's in the US alone in 1986, its first model year, with sales peaking in 1988.

AltaRock Energy is working on a project involving new technology, techniques, and advanced monitoring protocols for the purpose of testing the feasibility and viability of enhanced geothermal systems for renewable energy production.

The project area is 22 miles south of Bend, Oregon, within the Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest. The entire project is located on National Forest System Lands and would utilize an existing well pad and existing 10,000-ft deep geothermal well on a Federal geothermal lease. This geothermal project will enable the AltaRock Energy to create, test, and demonstrate the Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) reservoir technology and its potential for electricity generation in areas with underground heat but little or no natural water. The EGS projects produce electricity using heat extracted with engineered fluid flow paths in hot rocks. These pathways are developed by stimulating them with cold water injected into a well at a relatively high pressure.

Development and testing of the EGS will involve several components, including the development of an underground reservoir, one “stimulation” well to help create the reservoir and transport water to it, two production wells to transport heated water out of the reservoir, and an array of up to 20 surface and “down-hole” seismic monitoring devices.

Eleven of the monitoring sites are on Federal geothermal leases administered by the BLM, and nine are on lands that are administered by the U.S. Forest Service, including one surface micro-seismic monitoring station and a motion sensor installed in the Newberry National Monument.

The United States leads the world in electricity generation with geothermal power. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that in 2012, U.S geothermal power plants produced about 17 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), or 0.4% of total U.S. electricity generation. Six states had geothermal power plants: California had 36 plants producing about 80% of the Nation's geothermal-produced electricity; Nevada had 21 plants producing about 16% of the Nation's geothermal-produced electricity; Utah had two plants; and Hawaii, Idaho, and Oregon each had one plant. Geothermal energy is also used directly for space and water heating applications.

The Geothermal Steam Act of 1970, as amended (84 Stat, 1566; 30 U.S.C. 1001-1025), provides the Secretary of the Interior with the authority to lease public lands (245 million acres) and other federal lands, including National Forest lands (193 million acres), for geothermal exploration and development in an environmentally sound manner. This authority has been delegated to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Leases are required to explore for or develop geothermal resources on public lands. Leasing requirements are described in the 43 CFR 3200 Geothermal Leasing Regulations.

As of June 5, 2013 there were 78 federal geothermal leases encompassing 102,484 acres in Oregon, a 2% acreage decrease since May 2012, and four leases encompassing 8,436 acres in Washington representing no change over the same period. There have also been 15 parcels nominated for leasing, 6 in Oregon (11,452 acres) and 9 in Washington (35,480 acres). Three of these are on BLM land; the remaining 12 are on U.S. Forest Service (USFS) land.

Don't you know the television eats your brain? :)

It's funny but our antenna in Kiev has such nickname — injector. It really looks like one. And if you think about the TV in previously mentioned context it becomes clear that the nickname suits this antenna perfectly :)

You can ask me, do I watch the TV myself? Well... yes I do. Mostly at the kitchen of our office when I have a brake. And I avoid our local channels at all cost... Ukrainian TV is a real mind desroyer :)

I have to inject myself with testosterone every fortnight. For various reasons, it was a better plan to do this myself rather than get a nurse to do it, but I did go talk to one for advice.

She told me to practice on oranges. Apparently, an intra-muscular injection feels a lot like injecting an orange. (Tatoo artists also practice on citrus.)

I had three needles left for this one shot, so before I gave it to myself, I gave several hundred stabs to this poor orange.

Honestly, I don't know how similar it feels, since it's a fundamentally different emotional experience to push a needle into a peice of fruit vs. into my leg. But it does seem to make me feel better.

“When I was seventeen, my father forcibly injected me with speed. It led to years of drug addiction which I had little control over, and a life I didn’t choose. My father was a heroin addict. Drugs were always a part of my home life. I used to find needles lying around the house. I kinda knew what they were, but didn’t realise quite what. I remember my dads friends injecting themselves when I was around. They’d try to hide it from me, tell me to go watch cartoons in the other room. He’d take me to drug dens with him, and introduced me to other addicts. They’d glamorise drugs to me. I started to form a bond with them, and I was given speed and ecstasy.”
