Does Instagram influence young adult women negatively?
This series portrays a visual commentary of the potential effects that frequent use of Instagram and adding “desirable” images of ourselves, leads to an excessive focus on appearance, clothing, and over glamourised examples of leisure times. As one of the models said, “I am an encyclopaedia of mirror selfies.” The faces of each figure are featureless, and this has resulted in them being anonymous, or as an “everywoman.” This points to a type, rather than an individual. Inspiration for this series is drawn from the naïve genre and a reduced colour palette has been used. Techniques include the use of blurred line or lack of sharp edges, bold colour pairings in some work and muted colours in others. The introduction of icons to each work, hints at larger social concerns, as is seen with the addition of dark birds, lending a sense of potential threat to each innocent scene. Mirrors have been used to show figures in reflective positions.
These very icons speak also to the theoretical framework of broad social critical theory as it relates to social media use by women, and the potential hazards of this use, such as body image disturbances, a distorted focus on what beauty is and what is a ‘friend’ not who.
Beryl Audley Bryden (11 May 1920 – 14 July 1998) was an English jazz singer, who played with Chris Barber and Lonnie Donegan. Ella Fitzgerald once said of Bryden that she was "Britain's queen of the blues".
Bryden was born in Norwich, Norfolk, England. An ardent jazz fan she established a Nat Gonella fan club in her teens, before taking up the washboard and singing. Her vocal style was influenced by Bessie Smith but she avoided affectation of an American accent.
She sang with the Humphrey Lyttelton band and with Freddy Randall at London jazz venues such as the Cook's Ferry Inn. She became a supporter of visiting American jazz acts when the Musicians Union ban was lifted and befriended, amongst others, Buck Clayton, Louis Armstrong and Bud Freeman, with whom she recorded.
She joined the Chris Barber band on washboard, and played on the group's gold disc earning, "Rock Island Line" in 1955 with Lonnie Donegan on vocals. She later graduated to the Monty Sunshine jazz band, where she covered Bessie Smith ("Young Woman's Blues", "Gimme a Pigfoot (And a Bottle of Beer)") and long-term favourite "Coney Island Washboard Blues", which demonstrated her washboard technique.
She remained active at the end of the British trad jazz boom, and became particularly popular in Northern Europe, playing with the Ted Easton Jazz Band and The Piccadilly Six. In 1979, she headlined the North Sea Jazz Festival with Rod Mason and His Hot Five. In the 1980s she often sang with the New Orleans Syncopators, a Dutch jazz band, whom she recorded an album with.
In the 1970s, became the only British female jazz musician to be awarded the freedom of the City of New Orleans.
She remained active into the 1990s, playing with the Metropolitan Jazz Band, Digby Fairweather, Nat Gonella and her own Blue Boys. She made her last recording with Gonella in 1998, shortly before her death.
Bryden died in 1998 at the age of 78.

I draped and sewed fabric around two bodies then manipulated the shape it hung in. I question the forever changing relationships people share. At the beginning of a relationship the fabric would have no creases or alterations but as history and time is taken, the fabric of life is influenced and repositioned in certain places to create a layered, some times hidden, flowing story. What if our clothing represented the life changes and alterations we as individuals have experienced?

A key event of the Donor Programme was a panel entitled Influencing Change – Donor Climate Finance at Work where we heard about the role donors and the private sector play in shaping the post-Paris environment in the EBRD region.
This focused on the scaling up of the EBRD’s green finance between now and 2020, which will support countries’ ambitions to move to a low-carbon, green growth path.
The Programme also offered an opportunity for donors and the EBRD to discuss the results of their partnership, progress over the past year as well as future challenges and reforms. The Donor Report 2015 was also launched. The day concluded with a donor Assembly of the SEMED Multi-donor Fund, which will include a session on the Bank’s refugee response.

Ahmed Raza Khan (Arabic: أحمد رضا خان, Persian, Urdu: احمد رضا خان, Hindi: अहमद रज़ा खान), commonly known as Ahmed Rida Khan in Arabic, or simply as "Ala-Hazrat" (14 June 1856 CE or 10 Shawwal 1272 AH – 28 October 1921 CE or 25 Safar 1340 AH), was an Islamic scholar, jurist, theologian, ascetic, Sufi, Urdu poet, and reformer in British India,[4] and the founder of the Barelvi movement.[5][6][7] Raza Khan wrote on numerous topics, including law, religion, philosophy and the sciences.
Early life and family
Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi's father, Naqi Ali Khan, was the son of Raza Ali Khan.[8][9][10] Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi belonged to the Barech tribe of Pushtuns.[9] The Barech formed a tribal grouping among the Rohilla Pushtuns of North India who founded the state of Rohilkhand. Khan's ancestors migrated from Qandahar during the Mughal rule and settled in Lahore.[8][9]
Khan was born on 14 June 1856 in Mohallah Jasoli, Bareilly Sharif, the North-Western Provinces. The name corresponding to the year of his birth was "Al Mukhtaar". His birth name was Muhammad.[11] Khan used the appellation "Abdul Mustafa" ("servant of the chosen one") prior to signing his name in correspondence.[12]
At the age of four he completed the recitation of the Quran[citation needed]. At the age of 13, he completed his Islamic Education as well as reached puberty after which he began issuing Fatwas[citation needed].
Khan saw an intellectual and moral decline of Muslims in British India.[13] His movement was a mass movement, defending popular Sufism, which grew in response to the influence of the Deobandi movement in South Asia and the Wahhabi movement elsewhere.[14]
Today the movement is spread across the globe with followers in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, South Africa, United States, and UK among other countries. The movement now has over 200 million followers.[15] The movement was largely a rural phenomenon when begun, but is currently popular among urban, educated Pakistanis and Indians as well as South Asian diaspora throughout the world.[16]
Many religious schools, organizations and research institutions teach Khan's ideas,[17] which emphasize the primacy of Islamic law over adherence to Sufi practices and personal devotion to the prophet Muhammad.

Been listening to that famous audio book How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie...and it's clear that that's what I do wrong is I don't do the advice in that book. People are turned off when you're focused on yourself and yet people like Gary Faigin, who I knew and worked with as a figure model for 30 years off and on at the gage academy of fine Art in Seattle. the guy who passed away that I went to the memorial last night. He somehow did both. He was somehow extremely successful with his own self-focused painting and art, but then he shared it with a community and he enriched other people so he did both. That's heroic I want to tap into that for myself. How do I turn what I'm good at and what I love into something that the whole community benefits from? That's the smartest way to be to be useful to others and to do what you love and successful with yourself, but also useful to the community. I suppose I've done that with my art modelling, but I haven't figured out how to do it with my actual art projects= poetry, music, performance, photography, hanging my paintings in gallery etc. Was absolutely blown Away by The amazing memorial for Gary Faigin. What an amazing 74 years he had on this planet. He touched so many people and he had such an ability to communicate and connect people and build community with other people and he was both a very successful artist and painter within his own work. But he also encouraged many, many other people and taught them about art and helped them build their own skills and encouraged them. And he was such a good communicator... a clear communicator... what was on the inside of him was coming out and being understood. He was understanding others and being understood. These are things that I can learn from. I relate to his strong work ethic. I scatter my energy all over the place and it would be nice if I knew what I wanted so I could fully go for it more clearly. But I see Gary's focus and drive and ability to know what he wanted and he went for it and he did amazing things for 74 years on this planet. I had tears streaming down my face during much of the 2-hour memorial service at town Hall in Seattle where many people shared on the stage their connection to Gary and how He affected them and enriched their lives and how amazing to witness the ripple effect that one person created for so many other people in the community, his friends, his family, his colleagues. I only knew him from an art model perspective, but I was also touched by him in a positive way.

This is a 10th century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Located in the area of Angkor in Cambodia. It lies near the hill of Phnom Dei, 25 km (15 miles) north-east of the main group of temples that once belonged to the medieval capitals of Yasodharapura and Angkor Thom.[1] Banteay Srei is built largely of red sandstone, a medium that lends itself to the elaborate decorative wall carvings which are still observable today. The buildings themselves are miniature in scale, unusually so when measured by the standards of Angkorian construction. These factors have made the temple extremely popular with tourists, and have led to its being widely praised as a "precious gem", or the "jewel of Khmer art."
