This image includes some editing through the use of NX-D, which is a free photo editing software for Nikon users that offers more functionality and power than ViewNX when processing NEF files. Although the added features are great, the interface leaves much to be desired and takes a bit of getting used to.

On my old laptop, NX-D still seems to process and render images faster than ViewNX and although the rendering speed cannot compare to Adobe software, it also doesn't freeze up and/or pixelate the preview of images after editing like ViewNX does at times (at least in my experience). NX-D does allow you to take the NEF images much further in terms of processing before converting to TIFF format.

The image initially was very dull and suffered from very poor lighting conditions, so I was pleasantly suprised with the amount of detail, colour and contrast I was able to extract from it.

I also used PS and Lr, of course, as well as Nik Software. Many jarring sticks and stalks were also cloned out.

The ribbon eel (Rhinomuraena quaesita), also known as the leaf-nosed moray eel or bernis eel, is a species of moray eel, the only member of the genus Rhinomuraena. What is now known as R. quaesita also includes the former R. amboinensis. R. quaesita was used for blue ribbon eels and R. amboinensis for black ribbon eels, but these are now recognized as the same species. The ribbon eel is found in lagoons and reefs in the Indo-Pacific ocean, ranging from East Africa to southern Japan, Australia and French Polynesia. This species is widely distributed and is frequently seen by divers in Indonesian waters with their heads and anterior bodies protruding from crevices in sand and rubble habitats from very shallow to about 60 m. Although generally placed in the moray eel family Muraenidae , it has several distinctive features leading some to place it in its own family, Rhinomuraenidae.

The ribbon eel bears a resemblance to a mythical Chinese dragon with a long, thin body and high dorsal fins. The ribbon eel can easily be recognised by its expanded anterior nostrils. They are well known for their characteristic jaws that are frequently opened very widely when a diver approaches. Based on observed colour changes, it is generally considered a protandric hermaphrodite (first male, then changing sex to female), although this has yet to be confirmed. Colour change related to sex change is not known from any other moray eel species. The presumed juveniles and subadults are jet black with a yellow dorsal fin, in adult males the black is replaced by blue, and adult females are entirely yellow or yellow with some blue to the posterior. The reason I include this horse and fence combo in my Photostream is because of the signage on the fence. Licensed Shooting Preserve. A licensed shooting preserve is where they release different types of birds (not sure about other animals) and hunters come and shoot them, which I personally find rather despicable. But the point I am making here is, and what you can't see in the photo is that a few feet down the fence there is another sign that says, "don't touch, pet or feed the horses". And yet they are going to let hunters in those same fields that may or may not know how to shoot a gun. I just thought there was a lot of irony here......

Wildflower at the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I believe this is a Trillium Erectus.

It has several common names such as red trillium - From the NC Extension - Red Trillium is a perennial wildflower native to North America and is found in the mountains of NC. It tends to occur in drier habitats and is typically found on acid soils, in open dry or rich mesic woods, within laurel and rhododendron thickets at mid to high elevations.

From the GSMNP -

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a world-renowned preserve of wildflower diversity—over 1,500 kinds of flowering plants …more than in any other North American national park. … the park is sometimes referred to as the “Wildflower National Park.” From the earliest hepaticas and spring-beauties in the late winter to the last asters in the late fall, blooming flowers can be found year-round in the park.

A group of flowers known as spring ephemerals begins the yearly show. Ephemerals are so named because they appear above ground only in late winter and early spring, then flower, fruit, and die back within a short two month period. They emerge from February through April, and are gone (dormant) by May or June.

This remarkable group of plants is adapted to the rhythm of the overstory trees. Ephemerals appear before deciduous trees leaf out, when full sunlight is streaming to the forest floor. This is also a time when soil moisture is high and soil nutrients are plentiful due to the decomposition of tree leaves that fell the previous autumn. The ephemerals exploit these conditions—they flower, fruit, and their above-ground parts decay before summer gets into full swing. The peak of spring wildflower blooming usually occurs in mid- to late-April at lower elevations in the park, and a few weeks later on the highest peaks.

Spring ephemerals include flowers such as trillium (the park has 10 different species), lady slipper orchids, showy orchis, crested dwarf iris, fire pink, columbine, bleeding heart, phacelia, jack-in-the-pulpit, little brown jugs, and violets, to name just a few.

All the work done around West Portal after the cave in inside the tunnel in 2020 apparently didn't include any foliage abatement. Train 265 re-enters daylight after a 4.75-mile subterranean trip through the great bore.

BRITTANY...

The hamlet of Kerascoët includes a series of thatched houses called Cottages of Kerascoët. The village is a typical Breton village dating from the sixteenth century, it was renovated in 1993.

Part of Névez, a town in the department of Finistère, in Brittany, France.

The main originality of the heritage of the village lies in the granite that was extracted from nearby quarries and of course the thatched roofs! It was used to build the houses, blocks of nearly two meters high were cut on site and erected as a wall.

These standing stones are a feature of the rural and authentic Brittany.

No cars allowed, a real tourist 'trap' but still interesting!

This beauty represents about 40 species of herbaceous perennial plants native to meadows and prairies of North America, Europe, and Asia. Derived from the Hebrew word for Passover the common name pasque flower refers to the Easter flowering period.

Common names include wood iris, fortnight lily, African iris, Japanese iris and butterfly iris, each of which may be used differently in different regions for one or more of the six species within the genus.
