All Saints, Conington, Cambridgeshire

I came into the village of Conington, quite different in character to the stone-built villages I'd visited earlier. Here, there were small modern houses, mostly built of Fletton brick. The church is outside the village, and is visible from a long way off, the view from the north-east being one of the more familiar views of a Cambridgeshire church. The church is set beside the Hall, and it is difficult of access - there is no road up to it, as the sign on the private drive tells you in no uncertain terms, but there is a footpath on the verge into the churchyard.

Here, with some of the biggest tower rabbit ears I have ever seen, is the spectacular All Saints, a Churches Conservation Trust church. A great Perpendicular church, built more or less in one go at the end of the 15th Century. Everything is on a grand scale, including the complete set of tall-backed benches.

The walls are lined with memorials to the Cotton family, and here's the funny thing. Cambridgeshire has two Coningtons, one each in pre-1974 Cambs and Hunts, and BOTH were home to the Cotton family and are full of Cotton memorials. Isn't that strange? I haven't found out how it came about. Perhaps they named one after the other, though that doesn't seem likely. I like to think that the late medieval equivalent of a SatNav kept delivering them to the wrong Conington, and they were so fed up, and so wealthy, that they decided to buy the Hall in the other one as well, so as not to inconvenience themselves in future.

Whatever, the Cottons here were slightly mad, for as well as the good range of Cotton memorials gathered in the south chancel chapel there are a range of more rugged, similar memorials around the nave to earlier ancestors, a kind of back-dated tribute if you like, including one to a King of Scotland.

The aim of the event was to bring together UK stakeholders in future cities research and innovation to create a network with the Indian side which we would use a basis for our new strategic relationship with India on cities. Sinister bottles from Newman Brothers' coffin fittings works by scrappy annie

As part of the Heritage Open Days I was lucky enough to get a place on a guided tour of Newman Brothers' Coffin Fittings Works in Hockley, Birmingham this afternoon. What an experience this was!

Although coffins were never made there, every type of coffin fittings was manufactured on site - handles, breastplates, wreath holders, rings and roses, screws and nails in cast brass and stamped metal. Shrouds, coffin linings, side sheets and frillings were also made here. These fittings went out across the world and graced the coffins of royalty.

This grade 11* listed semi-derelict factory has been acquired and will be managed by the Birmingham Conservation Trust and I was asked to go along and look at the shroud department with a view to becoming involved in future art making when the facory re-opens after renovation.For more information about this exciting venture please see www.birminghamconservationtrust.org/catergory/blog/

Chief Guest address by Honorable justice Mr M. Karpaga Vinayagam delivered a wonderful speech and did expose the secrets of success. He started the talk with PCH... where P, C and H stands for polite ,care and humble respectively, the three values a human being should ever possess. The talk was exciting and thought provoking. He instructed everyone to follow the Nehru vian values where NEHRU stands for Noble Ethical Humble Responsible and Upright. As the talk went on the secrets of success were slowly revealed. The pave way to success is discipline. A disciplined student can have the fruit of success if and only if he follows the 3H’s where the H’s stand for honest, hard work and humanity. The success stories of his career where also a topic of discussion. During his career as a chief justice of Jharkhand high court he had to face many serious real-life incidents. The most prominent of all the incidents were the case in which he banned black tinted glasses in all vehicles because of an abduction of a young girl who was molested by 4 youngsters and was not able to seek help from the outsiders because the glass was totally tinted black. The girl's letter to the honorable justice made him to come up with a decision to ban the black tinted glasses on all vehicles of Jharkhand. The timely interruption and honest judgment makes him a truly unique and courageous man. As per the honorable justice the secrets of success lies in success itself. S stands for serenity u for upright c for commitment and confidence e for ethical s for self dependent and systematic. The student who possesses all these qualities can definitely enjoy the fruit of success. The road to success is not a bed of roses. There won't be any easy way to reach it either. But constant hard work and unshakable determination can definitely lead us towards success. The talk of honorable justice Mr. M. Karpaga Vinayagam helped the students to think differently and choose a better way to reach his or her goal. It was inspiring and truly motivating.

St Peter's at Higham on the Hill is set back from the rest of the village and easily missed if one is simply passing through. It stands in a pleasant green churchyard situated away from the street like an oasis of calm. The most interesting feature of the building is immediately apparent, its Norman west tower. It is a fine piece of Romanesque architecture from the mid 12th century decorated with characteristic blind arcading and corbel heads at the top. Remarkably there is a large arch on the west face now blocked in, but presumably indicating that the tower was once central and the original nave continued to the west.

The rest of the church has been rebuilt removing any other ancient features, thus the remainder of the exterior is fairly plain. The nave was replaced in 1790 in Georgian style, however this too was altered dramatically when Ewan Christian restored the church and added the south aisle in 1854, effectively 're-medievalising' the church by changing the plain Georgian windows to more fashionable or 'correct' Gothic ones. Finally the 18th century apse was replaced by the present chancel in 1870.

Inside everything is more or less from the 19th century, although the nave remains a distinct space from the aisle by its more unusual proportions, being wide and low, a legacy of the 18th century rebuilding. There are a few attractive stained glass windows of varying dates, the later ones being the more pleasing examples.

Higham church was normally kept locked outside of service times, though we met the churchwarden here who suggested they may have the church open to visitors more often in future which seems a postive move (especially in a county where locking is the norm). This was our second trip after Colin and I arrived too early to find it open on a previous Heritage weekend excursion in these parts, so it was nice to see inside at last. My first glimpse of the church was much earlier in childhood, when the Norman tower had really intrigued me. It remains the outstanding feature of this pleasant church.

PizzaBuzz is, in a city so full of new restaurant openings, a very good idea indeed. The concept can be summed up (crudely) as âDIY Pizzaâ or "we have the toppings, you do the rest!" or "Subway, but with pizzas!". This doesnât really do it justice however and there is, obviously, much more to it than that - which Iâll now try to elaborate upon:

Essentially the idea is semi-self service pizza/food assembly. You take your place at the start of their "DIY pizza assembly lineâ and prepare yourself a pizza entirely of your own devising (though you donât have to do anything really asides from tell them what you want your pizza to be made of - it arrives pre sliced too, woo!).

You choose from 5 types of bases (gluten free options are available). These range from a âregularâ Margherita (cheese, tomato etc) to the Bianca (white sauce, mozzarella, parmesan) - plus a pretty fkn extensive range of toppings, divided into vegetables, proteins (i.e meats, fish) and cheese. Said toppings include such gastronomic curiosities such as bacon jam and wild rock shrimp. The recommended number of toppings for a pizza is about 4-5, though apparently one guy came in (drunk) on a Friday night once and ordered a Â£20+ pizza that contained EVERY SINGLE topping they offered. It ended up looking like a pyramid (hahahahaha!)

And, if you donât fancy coming up with your own pizza, their âsignature collectionâ of pre-designed pizzas come in around Â£10, and have names like Middle Earth and Etna. Once youâve picked your combo of ingredients, it takes them about 1-3 minutes to cook the whole thing in their wood fired ovens - so you might even be able to describe it as fast food. Takeaway is also an option. In the Southern Italian style, you can also get a burrata (and choose what ingredients to have it with, which is the recurring theme...)

As for the ambiance - PizzaBuzz lives inside the brand spanking new Alphabeta development on Worship street. On the inside it has a minimal vibe - almost the feel of an industrial space about it. Except theyâve made it more friendly with offcentre animal illustrations drawn onto the walls (pictured) plus their colourful logo and a recurring love of hexagonal things. Plus staff singing along to the music (not sure if this is an actual feature or if I just came in at the right time ^_^)

I must also tell you about the dough - which took a yearâs development and is quite something (theyâve got a video called âJane Doughâ in which the dough explains this all to you in a Yorkshire accent, lol). Anyway, it comes from a small mill in Oxfordshire and is, unusually, 50% spelt. I am told that this results in better texture, digestibility and mouthfeel than regular pizza. This is a big claim to make, and Iâm not sure I agree - the pizza I had, however, WAS very good and thatâs all I can say about that.

All in all, Pizzabuzz is taking a very good idea from another restaurant (*ahem*) and applying it to pizza very, very well. I wasnât surprised to hear that they have another site opening soon and can see them doing pretty well in future. Inherently, itâs fun, a bit silly, and provides you with a lot more choice than most of the (pizza based) competition. Definitely a place Iâd recommend to everybody (because who the hell doesnât like pizza, really?!)

INTERNATIONAL INTER DISCIPLINARY ENGINEERING SEMINAR

An International Inter Disciplinary Engineering Seminar was held in the double storied auditorium of Hajvery University (HU) Lahore. Dr. Abdul Aleem Khan Chairman Institute of Engineers Jeddah KSA (Electrical Engineering Discipline), Dr. Javed Yonas Uppal Chairman Institute of Engineering Pakistan Lahore Center (Civil Engineering Discipline), Mrs Fareeda Javed Local Advisor Pakistan Engineering Council (Mechanical Engineering Discipline) spoke on the subject “Design and Development” which was introduced by the Dean of Faculty of Engineering (HU) Dr. Naeem Akhtar Khan Afridi.

The auditorium was packed with engineering students of Hajvery University. The distinguished speakers rolled the pearls of wisdom based on their knowledge and disciplines of engineering. Key note speaker Dr. Abdul Aleem Khan Chairman IEP Jeddah KSA revealed that Pakistani Engineers are leading in building the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as expressed by Saudi Arabia Minister for communication and works. He as engineering manager of Bin Ladin Group of KSA explained the projects successfully completed. He revealed that IEP / Engineers Welfare Fund KSA has helped in employment of 3000 engineers and technicians from Pakistan in different companies of Saudi Arabia other than 300 scholarships to different public sector engineering universities to the brilliant and hardworking students on recommendations of respective Deans. He concluded his address with an open invitation for helping Hajverian Engineers on recommendation of their Dean for employment in Saudi Arabian multinational firms.

The question answer session was extremely thought provoking, brain storming and informative. Distinguished speakers emphasized that as engineers they should be job creators nor job seekers. They suggested different projects and ways and means for small medium entrepreneurship that any engineer can start and create job for himself and couple of others. Mrs. Fareeda Javed admired the infrastructure and training facilities of Hajvery University. She said HU has been genuinely granted accreditation of intake of two years and in future also HU will be accreditated due to the standard and speed with which engineering faculty in HU is progressing.

In the demonstration phase of the seminar, Dean of Faculty of Engineering Dr. Naeem screened five video films of failed and successful projects. These films were hailed with big applause by all the participants.

In the end HU shields were presented by Gen Muhammad Latif Director Administration of Hajvery University to the distinguished speakers of all the three disciplines. The function ended with a sumptuous lunch in the honor of international. dignitaries engineering.

First of all I want to thank LEA (Linden Endowment for the Arts) and The LEA committee (Bryn Oh, Dancoyote Antonelli, Dekka Raymaker, JayJay Zifanwe, L1 Loire, Sasun Steinbeck, Solo Mornington, Werner Kurosawa, PatriciaAnne Daviau -advisor-) who trusted me and other artists (Artistide Despres, Charlotte Bartlett, comet Morigi, Freewee Ling, Glyph Graves, Harter Fall, Merlino Mayo, Mikati Slade, Misprint Thursday, Oberon Onmura, RAG Randt, Secret Rage, Selavy Oh, Sowa Mai, Ux Hax, Zachh Cale) for the first round LEA Land Grants to give me the opportunity to use a big space as a full sim to express my art.

Taking inspiration from the 1st book and a few of other episodes of the "Metamorphoses", word that from greek means "change of shape", written in latin by Publius Ovidius, this new project aims to build a path of multi levels within an allegorical vision related to the current age of crisis and transformation of human beings and our society.

The way to see the whole work would formally very different but conceptually similar to the fresco dedicated to the "Fall of the Giants" by Giulio Romano in the Palazzo Te in Mantua (Mantova), where the representation becomes a metaphor of the times lived and precarious power and human ambitions; So going on other examples are possible like the trasformations of Aracne, Daphne, Icarus, Heliades sisters, Medusa, ect. The outer and inner change of form and substance of living beings and their natural relationships into something different, new and unexpected, from the creative process naturally with technology through the lens of the symbolism of Myth and the squared glass of Science.

It is very intersting to see the origin of name Palazzo Te: "The famous villa, designed for parties, receptions and "idleness" of the Duke of Mantua, was built on an island in direct contiguity with the city center, known since the Middle Ages Tejeto, or Te. The hypothesis most likely derive from the term 'tilietum' (place of linden trees) or from the Celtic 'tezza' linked with Latin 'atteggia' in english 'attitude', both meaning 'hut'." *from

Obviously the project is not complete about the whole huge Ovid's work, and in start I've done just some main episodes, but my intention is to work on it in future, it will take time for sure. Stay tuned.

Wildwood Park Groundbreaking by City of Greenville, North Carolina

Wildwood Park development officially kicked off during a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, March 25. Although some work has already been performed on the new park, additional development will ramp up. The park is scheduled to open to visitors with basic amenities later this year, with additional features to be added in future phases.

Nehru Group of Institutions has been instituting Shri P. K. Das Memorial Best Faculty Award & Life Time Achievement Award from 2009 on December 15th of every year, remembering the birth date of the Founder Chairman Late P. K. Das.

Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal, Nehru Arts and Science College, in his welcome address congratulated the winners whole heartedly. He introduced Adv. P. Krishnadas, Chairman&Managing Trustee of Nehru Group of Institutions, Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO & Secretary of NGI, Chief Guest, Dr.R.SRINIVASAN Member Secretary Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai. Dr.B.Ilango,Chief Jury, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathiar University.

Adv. P. Krishnadas, Chairman & Managing Trustee of Nehru Group of Institutions presided over the function. He congratulated the winners and encouraged the spectators to achieve the same in future. He insisted that the growth of this great institution lies in vision of his father, beloved Founder Chairman Late P. K. Das. He stated that the quality of NGI is in the hands of the faculty members. He also dignified the Guru is placed before even God.

Dr.R.SRINIVASAN Member Secretary Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology was the Chief Guest for this award ceremony. In his address, he emphasized the purpose and scope for the teachers to upgrade their knowledge. He praised the great vision of the Founder Chairman Late P. K. Das and his strong will of starting the education institutions in those days and was emphatic that everyone should get visionary from great people.

Dr.K.KULANDAIVEL, Former Chancellor, Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore in his address pinpointed that being a teacher one must transform the thought to action. He spoke about the importance of research stating that “everything is available in India and we should not depend on other countries for anything. The problem in India is that we are not giving importance to accountability of thoughts and ideas. In foreign countries faculties strive hard to maintain the consistency in their domain. Indian faculties should hone their skills to compete with the emerging global needs.”

Workshop on Risk Communications for Public Health Emergencies by Asia-Europe Foundation

On 2-4 September 2015, ASEF Public Health Network organised another workshop, titled “Bridging the National Mechanism with Healthcare Workers”. The workshop brought together 48 experts in public health and risk communications and featured healthcare professionals who worked on emergency response to Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS), 2015 Nepal earthquake and Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The participants identified core elements of risk communication strategies that will be useful in future public health emergencies. bit.ly/1vmF6sl

East Kent Mencap - Sportivate Bounce (62) by East Kent Mencap

From June to August, East Kent Mencap’s youth services received lottery funding from Sportivate, part of Sport England to host a trampoline club for young people with learning disabilities.

Held at Ramsgate leisure centre, where training was provided by Aire Trampoline Club – the evenings gained momentum and we hope to find funding in order to continue the club in future.

‘On the first evening, the group were a little cautious (as were parents!) but by the end of the evening no one wanted to leave!’ comments Children & Youth Manager Ange Brown.

‘We were able to host 6 sessions, but were able to reach capacity quickly.

‘It has been fantastic supporting the group to try something new and fun that they want to keep coming back to.

‘I believe this is not only down to our fabulous support workers – and the help of parents at these evenings, but especially thanks to trampoline coach- Luke Shiels who really knew his stuff and inspired confidence in our members to be brave and give it a go!’

On the final night, participants received a booklet containing images of themselves and their friends in action.

Brands Hatch BARC Club Car Championships DAY 2 01/08/21 by Ross Denyer

The Finale to the BARC Club Car Championships Weekender at Brands Hatch and after a Very Thrilling set of both Qualifying Sessions and Races which took place on the Saturday it was Time once again for each Driver to strap in and get ready for some high speed Racing Action thought the Sunday.

In Tribute to the Marshall who was Tragically Killed on the Saturday Some Car and Driver Pairings were Racing with Orange Hearts on their Cars as a Tribute to all of Motorsports Family of Marshalls for who without Racing would not be possible. Thank You!

Britcar Endurance Championship - Trophy Category (Race 1 Results FINAL)

The Britcar Endurance Trophy was the First up and it was time to see who could claim that elusive Pole Position and to see if anyone else could challenge the Top Three Drivers Lets see how things turned out.

In First Place was the Pairing Of (Datum Motorsport's Axel Van Nederveen and Adriano Medeiros) in their Ginetta G55A with a Best Lap Time of 52:193 and an Average Speed of 64.75mph. Congratulations Axel and Adriano a Really Fantastic Drive and A Super Victory.

In Second Place was (SVG's Mark Lee) in his Ginetta G56A with a Best Lap Time of 52.086 and an Average Speed of 64.70mph. Amazing Drive Mark Keeping that Ginetta on the Track and Taking Second Place while Nearly Matching the Speed of Axel and Adriano. Well Done.

In Third Place was (Terry Stephens) in his Peugeot 308 with a Best Lap Time of 53.421 and an Average Speed of 64.50mph. Well Fought Terry a Fantastic Finish in Third Place and Staying Ahead by just over 11 seconds to the Pair of Jasver and Bryan in 4th. Amazing Job.

A Really Enjoyable and Exciting First Race of the Sunday with High Speed Action and Incredible Victories on Track. Congratulations Axel Adriano Mark and Terry. Lets see what Race 2 Brings in terms of the Action.

Now it was Time for the Fan Favourite to Enter onto the Brands Hatch Circuit with the Pre 66 Touring Cars Championship. With Mini's Lotus Cortina's and Ford Falcons. This was One Race that No One Wanted to Miss. After a Very Fast Paced Qualifying Session on the Saturday Which saw (Alan Greenhalgh) take Pole Position who Will be able to Challenge Him During the Race and Snatch Victory Away from Him.

In First Place was (Alan Greenhalgh) in his Ford Falcon with A Best Lap Time of 58.707 and an Average Speed of 72.63mph. Congratulations Alan A Beautiful Example of the Ford Falcon and Certainly a Very Fast One too. Congratulations on Your Victory.

A bit better than the genius one, but that is because it was done with my Wacon Tablet + stylus, rather than Ipad+fingers. In 10 min, I couldn't put colours in it, but I carried on and posted the final picture to....

The 3rd and final entry I made for this year's competition.

Located in the heart of the town of Lugang (鹿港) in the northern part of the Changhua (彰化) county, the locally famous museum of folk art (民俗文物館) was once the mansion of the richest Gu (辜） family in Taiwan.

Originally built during the Japanese colonial era, the mansion’s architecture style is heavily influenced by baroque with a Japanese twist like many other landmarks in the south.

The scale was decided by the 2 columns of bricks in the central portion, depicted by 1x2 bricks with masonry texture. There were a few tricky bits: the pair of octagonal-shaped towers which resulted in a sqrt(2) out of system issue, the domes, the color composition to avoid an overwhelming amount of grey and dark colors which would make the building feel flat etc...

This is also my first creation that kept track of the exact piece count in the studio before starting physically for budget control. It was very tiring but I have learned a lot about my working speed and budget control which surely would be a good asset in future projects.

Moosach station on the Freising route of the Munich S-Bahn network. This station is also a terminus for a Munich tram route, although when these photos were taken, it was terminated further away from the station because of development work for a Munich underground (U-Bahn) extension that will also serve the station in future. The station is also shared with the main line to Nuremberg (Nürnberg).

Basketball: Oroville High edges PV High - Chico, California (12/12/204) by Robert Brand

The third of four tournament basketball games I shot on December 12 at PV (Pleasant Valley) High School in Chico featured the Oroville Tigers against the host Vikings team. It was a low scoring contest with Oroville emerging victorious by one point 45-44.

After shooting the first half of the game with my D700 + 50 mm. f/1.8 I switched to my 85 mm. f/1.8 and broke away from my baseline comfort zone near the net to spend the second half working the corner area. In the past I haven’t fared too well shooting from the area of the corner and so was surprised when I got better results than I thought I would. I will have to try that again in future matches!

This is one of a series of six photos shot with the D700/85 mm. combo. Exposure was 1/800 and f/2.8 at ISO 3200.

Foundation stone 7 Feb 1914 by Bishop Arthur Nutter, architect Stanley Pointer of Woods, Bagot & Jory, nave opened 14 Oct 1914, vestry added 1954 in memory of WWII servicemen. After a fire Dec 1960, the rebuilding incorporated original plans for sanctuary, dedicated 4 Mar 1962. First church foundation stone 19 Aug 1899 by Dean Marryat, architect F W Dancker, sold 1924 to Education Dept, this building is now part of Rose Park Primary School.

“the new Church of St. Theodore, Rose Park. . . The site is on Prescott terrace, not far from the Duncan Homes. Sir Edwin Smith gave £100 on condition that the new church should be in its present position. The South Australian Company made a generous abatement of the purchase price of the land.” [Register 17 Jan 1914]

“Fortunately, the building committee have been able to secure a site for the new church more in the centre of the district than the old mission church, which will he used, in future as a parish hall. Only the nave at the new church is to be erected at present.” [Daily Herald 31 Jan 1914]

“the new church is located about a quarter of a mile away from the old one, and more in the centre of an ever-growing district. . . Plenty of land has been secured by the vestry to permit of an extension of the edifice as required, and also of a parish hall. Permanent repairs underway to the facade of 447 Collins Street by Marcus Wong

It appears the marble facade panels at 447 Collins Street are being faced with steel mesh panels, in order to prevent debris from falling in future. On the morning of Monday, 30 January 2012 a chunk of the facade fell to earth, with engineers having to inspect the entire building:

TEDxHUP International Conference was Organized by Hajvery University (HU) under license from TED, USA. It was held on Saturday, February 4 at the HU Euro Campus.

The Conference brought together the Movers & Shakers of Pakistan as Keynote Speakers; from the former Governor of Punjab, Lt. Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool Sb, Academia: Chairman HEC, Dr. Javaid R. Laghari Sb, Senior Journalists: Oriya Maqbool Jan Sb, Javed Chaudhry sb, and the remarkable Mohammad Malick Sb, Senior Foreign Diplomat, US Consul General: Ms. Nina Maria Fite, Google, Country Consultant, Badar Khushnood Sb, CEO Depilex, Ms. Massarat Misbah, Media & Cultural Icons: Mian Yousuf Salahuddin Sb, Adeel Hashmi Sb, Ms. Huma Amir Shah delivered their talks, and shared Dreams for Pakistan

The Theme of the Conference was — I Dream of a Pakistan.. The objective was to CREATE a platform where passionate people can come together and spark deep discussions on how to bring a peaceful & positive change to Pakistan. Snake Battle (WIP) by Nancy Muller

Another digital experiment.

Didn't turn out quite the way I wanted, but that's the nature of experiments, isn't it?

You never know how things will turn out!

I started out with the intention of having scales on the snake, or some sort of pattern, possibly bands... but nothing looked right, so for now this project is a work in progress, on hold.

I will add something more to it in future. We shall see, we shall see.

Male. This was the first individual recorded in Dorset, but this species could well colonise in future.
