From June to August, East Kent Mencap’s youth services received lottery funding from Sportivate, part of Sport England to host a trampoline club for young people with learning disabilities.

Held at Ramsgate leisure centre, where training was provided by Aire Trampoline Club – the evenings gained momentum and we hope to find funding in order to continue the club in future.

‘On the first evening, the group were a little cautious (as were parents!) but by the end of the evening no one wanted to leave!’ comments Children & Youth Manager Ange Brown.

‘We were able to host 6 sessions, but were able to reach capacity quickly.

‘It has been fantastic supporting the group to try something new and fun that they want to keep coming back to.

‘I believe this is not only down to our fabulous support workers – and the help of parents at these evenings, but especially thanks to trampoline coach- Luke Shiels who really knew his stuff and inspired confidence in our members to be brave and give it a go!’

On the final night, participants received a booklet containing images of themselves and their friends in action.

If you are a parent / volunteer or one of the attendees of the evening – please send us your comments on the club – it will help us to obtain future funding for more clubs like this!

Visited this abandoned church in April 2011.

In 1927 the Fathers Passionists bought the property and built a home for the Fathers, a school and a public chapel. Only years later it was officially used as a church.

In 2005 the Fathers left and since then St. Fakobus is waiting for it's new destination.

In future it will be used by the police, who bought the property to house a police station.

Sony RX1 User Report.

I hesitate to write about gear. Tools are tools and the bitter truth is that a great craftsman rises above his tools to create a masterpiece whereas most of us try to improve our abominations by buying better or faster hammers to hit the same nails at the same awkward angles.

The internet is fairly flooded with reviews of this tiny marvel, and it isn’t my intention to compete with those articles. If you’re looking for a full-scale review of every feature or a down-to-Earth accounting of the RX1’s strengths and weaknesses, I recommend starting here.

Instead, I’d like to provide you with a flavor of how I’ve used the camera over the last six months. In short, this is a user report. To save yourself a few thousand words: I love the thing. As we go through this article, you’ll see this is a purpose built camera. The RX1 is not for everyone, but we will get to that and on the way, I’ll share a handful of images that I made with the camera.

It should be obvious to anyone reading this that I write this independently and have absolutely no relationship with Sony (other than having exchanged a large pile of cash for this camera at a retail outlet).

Before we get to anything else, I want to clear the air about two things: Price and Features

The Price

First things first: the price. The $2800+ cost of this camera is the elephant in the room and, given I purchased the thing, you may consider me a poor critic. That in mind, I want to offer you three thoughts:

Consumer goods cost what they cost, in the absence of a competitor (the Fuji X100s being the only one worth mention) there is no comparison and you simply have to decide for yourself if you are willing to pay or not.

Normalize the price per sensor area for all 35mm f/2 lens and camera alternatives and you’ll find the RX1 is an amazing value.

You are paying for the ability to take photographs, plain and simple. Ask yourself, “what are these photographs worth to me?”

In my case, #3 is very important. I have used the RX1 to take hundreds of photographs of my family that are immensely important to me. Moreover, I have made photographs (many appearing on this page) that are moving or beautiful and only happened because I had the RX1 in my bag or my pocket. Yes, of course I could have made these or very similar photographs with another camera, but that is immaterial.

35mm by 24mm by 35mm f/2

The killer feature of this camera is simple: it is a wafer of silicon 35mm by 24mm paired to a brilliantly, ridiculously, undeniably sharp, contrasty and bokehlicious 35mm f/2 Carl Zeiss lens. Image quality is king here and all other things take a back seat. This means the following: image quality is as good or better than your DSLR, but battery life, focus speed, and responsiveness are likely not as good as your DSLR. I say likely because, if you have an entry-level DSLR, the RX1 is comparable on these dimensions. If you want to change lenses, if you want an integrated viewfinder, if you want blindingly fast phase-detect autofocus then shoot with a DSLR. If you want the absolute best image quality in the smallest size possible, you’ve got it in the RX1.

While we are on the subject of interchangeable lenses and viewfinders...

I have an interchangeable lens DSLR and I love the thing. It’s basically a medium format camera in a 35mm camera body. It’s a powerhouse and it is the first camera I reach for when the goal is photography. For a long time, however, I’ve found myself in situations where photography was not the first goal, but where I nevertheless wanted to have a camera. I’m around the table with friends or at the park with my son and the DSLR is too big, too bulky, too intimidating. It comes between you and life. In this realm, mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras seem to be king, but they have a major flaw: they are, for all intents and purposes, just little DSLRs.

As I mentioned above, I have an interchangeable lens system, why would I want another, smaller one? Clearly, I am not alone in feeling this way, as the market has produced a number of what I would call “professional point and shoots.” Here we are talking about the Fuji X100/X100s, Sigma DPm-series and the RX100 and RX1.

Design is about making choices

When the Fuji X100 came out, I was intrigued. Here was a cheap(er), baby Leica M. Quiet, small, unobtrusive. Had I waited to buy until the X100s had come out, perhaps this would be a different report. Perhaps, but probably not. I remember thinking to myself as I was looking at the X100, “I wish there was a digital Rollei 35, something with a fixed 28mm or 35mm lens that would fit in a coat pocket or a small bag.” Now of course, there is.

So, for those of you who said, “I would buy the RX1 if it had interchangeable lenses or an integrated viewfinder or faster autofocus,” I say the following: This is a purpose built camera. You would not want it as an interchangeable system, it can’t compete with DSLR speed. A viewfinder would make the thing bigger and ruin the magic ratio of body to sensor size—further, there is a 3-inch LCD viewfinder on the back! Autofocus is super fast, you just don’t realize it because the bar has been raised impossibly high by ultra-sonic magnet focusing rings on professional DSLR lenses. There’s a fantastic balance at work here between image quality and size—great tools are about the total experience, not about one or the other specification.

In short, design is about making choices. I think Sony has made some good ones with the RX1.

In use

So I’ve just written 1,000 words of a user report without, you know, reporting on use. In many ways the images on the page are my user report. These photographs, more than my words, should give you a flavor of what the RX1 is about. But, for the sake of variety, I intend to tell you a bit about the how and the why of shooting with the RX1.

Snapshots

As a beginning enthusiast, I often sneered at the idea of a snapshot. As I’ve matured, I’ve come to appreciate what a pocket camera and a snapshot can offer. The RX1 is the ultimate photographer’s snapshot camera.

I’ll pause here to properly define snapshot as a photograph taken quickly with a handheld camera.

To quote Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” So it is with photography. Beautiful photographs happen at the decisive moment—and to paraphrase Henri Cartier-Bresson further—the world is newly made and falling to pieces every instant. I think it is no coincidence that each revolution in the steady march of photography from the tortuously slow chemistry of tin-type and daguerreotype through 120 and 35mm formats to the hyper-sensitive CMOS of today has engendered new categories and concepts of photography.

Photography is a reflexive, reactionary activity. I see beautiful light or the unusual in an every day event and my reaction is a desire to make a photograph. It’s a bit like breathing and has been since I was a kid.

Rather than sneer at snapshots, nowadays I seek them out; and when I seek them out, I do so with the Sony RX1 in my hand.

How I shoot with the RX1

Despite much bluster from commenters on other reviews as to the price point and the purpose-built nature of this camera (see above), the RX1 is incredibly flexible. Have a peek at some of the linked reviews and you’ll see handheld portraits, long exposures, images taken with off-camera flash, etc.

Yet, I mentioned earlier that I reach for the D800 when photography is the primary goal and so the RX1 has become for me a handheld camera—something I use almost exclusively at f/2 (people, objects, shallow DoF) or f/8 (landscapes in abundant light, abstracts). The Auto-ISO setting allows the camera to choose in the range from ISO 50 and 6400 to reach a proper exposure at a given aperture with a 1/80 s shutter speed. I have found this shutter speed ensures a sharp image every time (although photographers with more jittery grips may wish there was the ability to select a different default shutter speed). This strategy works because the RX1 has a delightfully clicky exposure compensation dial just under your right thumb—allowing for fine adjustment to the camera’s metering decision.

So then, if you find me out with the RX1, you’re likely to see me on aperture priority, f/2 and auto ISO. Indeed, many of the photographs on this page were taken in that mode (including lots of the landscape shots!).

Working within constraints.

The RX1 is a wonderful camera to have when you have to work within constraints. When I say this, I mean it is great for photography within two different classes of constraints: 1) physical constraints of time and space and 2) intellectual/artistic constraints.

To speak to the first, as I said earlier, many of the photographs on this page were made possible by having a camera with me at a time that I otherwise would not have been lugging around a camera. For example, some of the images from the Grand Canyon you see were made in a pinch on my way to a Christmas dinner with my family. I didn’t have the larger camera with me and I just had a minute to make the image. Truth be told, these images could have been made with my cell phone, but that I could wring such great image quality out of something not much larger than my cell phone is just gravy. Be it jacket pocket, small bag, bike bag, saddle bag, even fannie pack—you have space for this camera anywhere you go.

Earlier I alluded to the obtrusiveness of a large camera. If you want to travel lightly and make photographs without announcing your presence, it’s easier to use a smaller camera. Here the RX1 excels. Moreover, the camera’s leaf shutter is virtually silent, so you can snap away without announcing your intention. In every sense, this camera is meant to work within physical constraints.

I cut my photographic teeth on film and I will always have an affection for it. There is a sense that one is playing within the rules when he uses film. That same feeling is here in the RX1. I never thought I’d say this about a camera, but I often like the JPEG images this thing produces more than I like what I can push with a RAW. Don’t get me wrong, for a landscape or a cityscape, the RAW processed carefully is FAR, FAR better than a JPEG.

But when I am taking snapshots or photos of friends and family, I find the JPEGs the camera produces (I’m shooting in RAW + JPEG) so beautiful. The camera’s computer corrects for the lens distortion and provides the perfect balance of contrast and saturation. The JPEG engine can be further tweaked to increase the amount of contrast, saturation or dynamic range optimization (shadow boost) used in writing those files. Add in the ability to rapidly compensate exposure or activate various creative modes and you’ve got this feeling you’re shooting film again. Instant, ultra-sensitive and customizable film.

Pro Tip: Focusing

Almost all cameras come shipped with what I consider to be the worst of the worst focus configurations. Even the Nikon D800 came to my hands set to focus when the shutter button was halfway depressed. This mode will ruin almost any photograph. Why? Because it requires you to perform legerdemain to place the autofocus point, depress the shutter halfway, recompose and press the shutter fully. In addition to the chance of accidentally refocusing after composing or missing the shot—this method absolutely ensures that one must focus before every single photograph. Absolutely impossible for action or portraiture.

Sensibly, most professional or prosumer cameras come with an AF-ON button near where the shooter’s right thumb rests. This separates the task of focusing and exposing, allowing the photographer to quickly focus and to capture the image even if focus is slightly off at the focus point. For portraits, kids, action, etc the camera has to have a hair-trigger. It has to be responsive. Manufacturer’s: stop shipping your cameras with this ham-fisted autofocus arrangement.

Now, the RX1 does not have an AF-ON button, but it does have an AEL button whose function can be changed to “MF/AF Control Hold” in the menu. Further, other buttons on the rear of the camera can also be programmed to toggle between AF and MF modes. What this all means is that you can work around the RX1’s buttons to make it’s focus work like a DSLR’s. (For those of you who are RX1 shooters, set the front switch to MF, the right control wheel button to MF/AF Toggle and the AEL button to MF/AF Control Hold and voila!) The end result is that, when powered on the camera is in manual focus mode, but the autofocus can be activated by pressing AEL, no matter what, however, the shutter is tripped by the shutter release. Want to switch to AF mode? Just push a button and you’re back to the standard modality.

Carrying.

I keep mine in a small, neoprene pouch with a semi-hard LCD cover and a circular polarizing filter on the front—perfect for buttoning up and throwing into a bag on my way out of the house. I have a soft release screwed into the threaded shutter release and a custom, red twill strap to replace the horrible plastic strap Sony provided. I plan to gaffer tape the top and the orange ring around the lens. Who knows, I may find an old Voigtlander optical viewfinder in future as well.

It was way past 12 and I happened to hear the sound of a water droplet leaking from the tap. I switched on the lights to close the TAP. But then I grabbed my camera and captured this moment.

I realized each water droplet is precious & would cost million dollar in future, if we don't save it.

Unfortunately the Holga version of this photo got lost because the back of the camera chose that moment to fall open in bright, direct sunlight, thus obliterating three shots on the film. In future I'll make sure I tape up the back of the Holga.

The barn made a good subject, though, and the iPhone version came out OK I think.

Once again, I attempted another levitation photography at Singapore Management University. Till today, I still cannot master the graceful and elegant poise of yowayowa camera master who is able to capture that relaxing levitation moment in every of her photos. One of the limitation I regretted in my skills so far. This is perhaps the best shot in the second day. There will be more levitation shots in future.

A lot of damaging misinformation has been submitted to Governments by these biased and one-sided lobby groups that constantly target their own choice of one select product out of the many that are out there ? For years now cancer societies have directed their central focus of blame for cancer mainly on the tobacco products ? And , in spite of the constant attack on this one singled out product, the incidence of cancer is on the rise among adults under 50 ? Has this barnstorming and concentrated fucused approach on one product strategy served to distract from or even prevent the discovery of what the real cause or causes might be ? If it isn't the smoking, then what is it and why aren't they getting warning labels on whatever it is ?

May 31, 2023 - Canada has created a brand new Cabinet position called Minister of health and Addictions and Carolyn Bennett has started off her new position with yet another attack on the tobacco industry by ordering that 50 additional new dire warning messages ( 25 in French and 25 in English) be placed on or within the cigarette packages that are already overcrowded by numerous dire warnings and graphic pictures ? This is interesting ? First they assist alcohol products by giving them a generous 4 times the sin tax break over the tobacco products, then they create legislation to legalize and to enable the smoking of cannabis, and, then they create more legislation enacting Bill C-218 to open up the flood gates of wide open at home and mobile phone sports parlor betting and casino gambling as never before seen or even imagined in Canada - And then, after all of this enabling assistance, they will then proceed to create a brand new Cabinet position called Minister of mental health and addictions, and her first order of business when assuming her new job is to once again target and single out tobacco products for yet another restriction ? ( while ignoring and not even mentioning the words sports gambling, marijuana or alcohol) ?

Ottawa May 31, 2023 - Canada makes history, (and the Guinness book of records) ? The Canadian Government has issued a brand new demand for 50 new dire warnings to be placed on or inside cigarette packages that are already 75% covered with multiple warnings and graphic images and must also be hidden away from all public view in drawers in stores ? Meanwhile the number 50 just also happens to be the same number as there are new at-home and on-line gambling las vegas style casinos and sports betting parlors that have just recently opened up for business in Canada since this same Liberal Government recently enacted their gambling enabling Bill C-218 ?

'Why not just blame everything on smoking ? '

Stats Can, October 16, 2017 - The Conference Board of Canada says that although actual smokers have decreased in their numbers, deaths and health care costs attributed to smoking are still increasing dramatically ? They explain the reason for such a paradox may lie in the way they view their statistics that will include all sickness and negative health problems (and we assume this includes both physical and mental health ) incurred by the quitters over their lifetime until death, as well as those of all the part timers and those who had just tried it for a while ? And so, even if you don't smoke now but may have at one time or another, all negative personal health issues and problems incurred during your non-smoking natural life will be blamed on smoking and listed by them to be caused as a result of smoking ? And so, for example, If an ex smoker dies naturally at say age 80, his death and all of his lifetime sickness and negative medical issues even if a non smoker for 50 years are seen by them to have been caused by smoking ? www.cbc.ca/news/business/smoking-economic-cost-1.4357096

Global news 2023 - Although the number of actual smokers has gone way down, Rob Cunningham's Canadian Cancer Society says deaths per year caused by these same smokers are way up ? They also claim that 1 in 3 cancer cases in Canada are still being caused by the smoking ? Given that in the last 10 years the actual number of smokers gas gone down by half, it was interesting when Cunningham and the Minister of Health said recently that in 2022 there were a whopping 46,000 deaths related to smoking ? May 19, 2024, CBC Power & Politics - The notion that, "Smokers are creating long line ups at the Emergency" WHA-A-T ?? Most smokers I know are out there working hard and earning a living - not sitting around on chairs in Emergency Rooms waiting 8 hours to see a Doctor ?

Listen as Dr. Heather Morrison, P.E.I.'s Chief Public Health Officer has blamed smoking for the current problems in her troubled health care system and for the long wait times at Emergency ? She goes on to suggest that in order to contain this threat that a drastic solution is necessary and is suggesting that constitutional rights and freedoms guaranteed under a Constitution be removed from some citizens for the rest of their lives in order to protect PEI citizens ?

It is unfortunate here, that the Minister seems oblivious to and never mentions in the interview the real reasons for the current health care crisis that has not so much been caused by smokers but by an incredible lack of planning and foresight by her predecessors who had for years cut staff and slashed hospital budgets to the bone. There is also a surprisingly large influx of newcomers and foreigners incl students now moving unimpeded by Government into a small and unprepared Province creating shortages of Doctors and Nurses. And, what about the huge drain on the health system caused by the abuse of alcohol, social media abuse, gambling addictions, cannabis abuse, opioid and fentanyl hard drug use, mental illness and depression. And we mustn't forget all of those suffering from obesity, sugar diabetes, poor diet choices, lack of exercise and from the effects of overdoing fast food and junk food. There is also the victims of violence, be it domestic or other, and the increase in accidents caused by pot and alcohol impairment. And, we must also remember the ever growing number of elderly residents in our society needing attention and now living longer. And not to forget the hundreds of everyday visitors to the hospital suffering from the common everyday illnesses like colds, flu, cuts and bruises and Covi, as well as all of the soon to be Mothers requiring immediate attention or treatment ?

Newfoundland, June 3, 2024 - A proposal has been put forth to Newfoundlanders that as a way to get rid of a product that some people in Newfoundland don't approve of, that the Provincial Government be given permission to interrupt and override the current system of democracy and to deny longtime constitutional rights and freedoms guaranteed under a Charter to certain young Newfoundlanders without gaining their knowledge, attention, permission or consent ? Apparently under the new proposal the local Governance will be allowed to choose and pinpoint a particular publicly sold product and then force an absolute lifetime ban on this product on whomever they have chosen ? A lifetime probationary condition is to then remain permanently attached to these subjects for as long as they live ? To insure compliance to this lifetime of social control, these individuals will be tracked by personal monitoring systems that could in the future involve the use of ankle, bracelet or necklace monitoring devices working in tandem with Tobacconist cash registers, or could perhaps involve the use of an implanted sub-epidermal computer chip that has been programmed to track personal SIN numbers, birth dates and probationary status and capable of recording and instantly alerting authorities if the targeted subject ever breaks the law by violating his or her lifetime probationary status ?

It will always be a major concern when the installation of any such major, groundbreaking, first ever of its kind, freedom removing, undemocratic or totalitarian legislation may be being based on the opinions of heavily biased individuals, unproven facts, and made-up figures that are mostly hypothetical, over-exaggerated, out dated, and might even have been deliberately manipulated ? www.ctvnews.ca/canada/n-l-becomes-latest-province-to-eye-...

Sculpture by Voitre Marek over altar.

Foundation stone 31 Jul 1927 by Archbishop Robert Spence, architect Woods, Bagot, Jory & Laybourne Smith, opened 19 Feb 1928, extensions (nave, sanctuary, transepts, porch), architect Brian Taylor, new sanctuary consecrated 13 Jul 1966. It replaced church-school, brick & stone, opened 23 Aug 1914 in Cambridge Tce.

First church in district, foundation stone 31 Oct 1869 by Vicar-General, Rev John Smyth, architects Wright, Woods & Hamilton, local stone, opened 1 May 1870 on corner Maitland St & St Michael’s St, Mitcham, enlarged & re-opened 17 Jan 1904, closed 1914 when new church built Kingswood, sold 1918, later demolished, cairn on corner. Parish now combined with Goodwood Holy Cross & St Therese’s Colonel Light Gardens to form Emmaus parish.

“the foundation-stone of a new Catholic Church at Mitcham, to be named the Church of our Lady of Dolors, was laid by the Very Rev. the Vicar-General (Father Smyth), on a block of land given by Mrs. Stevens, and situated about a stone's throw from the Church of England.” [Advertiser 1 Nov 1869]

“The new church of Our Lady of Dolors of the Mitcham district . . . a substantial brick-and-stone building in the form of a school hall, for which use it is intended in future, when a church has been built on the vacant adjoining block.” [Daily Herald 25 Aug 1914]

“A wet and stormy afternoon somewhat marred the ceremony of laying the foundation stone . . . Thirteen years ago, when the old church proved inadequate, arrangements were made for the erection of a new building on a site that would be more conveniently situated for the new residents who were building homes at Kingswood and Malvern, and a large block was secured in 1914 by the Passionist Fathers, who were them in charge of the parish. On it the present school, church, and convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph were built. The increase of population in the southern suburbs during recent years has made it necessary to provide a larger building for church purposes.” [Advertiser 1 Aug 1927]

“Spanish architecture . . . of brick, finished externally in white, or almost white stucco, color contrasts being obtained by a plinth in color blend bricks above the ground line and a low pitched roof of multi-colored Marseilles tiles.” [Register 1 Aug 1927]

German Beer Purity Law, 1516

"We hereby proclaim and decree, by Authority of our Province, that henceforth in the Duchy of Bavaria, in the country as well as in the cities and marketplaces, the following rules apply to the sale of beer:

From Michaelmas to Georgi, the price for one Mass [Bavarian Liter 1,069] or one Kopf [bowl-shaped container for fluids, not quite one Mass], is not to exceed one Pfennig Munich value, and From Georgi to Michaelmas, the Mass shall not be sold for more than two Pfennig of the same value, the Kopf not more than three Heller [Heller usually one-half Pfennig].

If this not be adhered to, the punishment stated below shall be administered. Should any person brew, or otherwise have, other beer than March beer, it is not to be sold any higher than one Pfennig per Mass. Furthermore, we wish to emphasize that in future in all cities, markets and in the country, the only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be Barley, Hops and Water. Whosoever knowingly disregards or transgresses upon this ordinance, shall be punished by the Court authorities' confiscating such barrels of beer, without fail. Should, however, an innkeeper in the country, city or markets buy two or three pails of beer (containing 60 Mass) and sell it again to the common peasantry, he alone shall be permitted to charge one Heller more for the Mass of the Kopf, than mentioned above. Furthermore, should there arise a scarcity and subsequent price increase of the barley (also considering that the times of harvest differ, due to location), WE, the Bavarian Duchy, shall have the right to order curtailments for the good of all concerned."

Signed: Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria on April 23, 1516 in Ingolstadt.

On Sunday 14th July 2019 Val and myself celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary.

Hard to believe now where those fifty years have gone to!

One thing is for sure; in recent years the time has accelerated, and gone much too fast. But we have lots of great memories of our life together and we hope for a few more yet, health permitting.

Not all of our close family and friends could make it along but we had around forty or so for our special party.

The photographs represent a bit of the day and, with hindsight, I should have taken some more pictures. Let’s hope there are other occasions for us to do so in the future. (Note to self: make a list of the pictures you want to take in future at gatherings like this!)

This lens emerges from another extensive lens test as one of the best. Yes, it's a very good lens, but I couldn't find an exceptional performance that confirms that. Pleasant to work with. As I often do, I managed to shorten the shortest focusing distance even more with a homemade adapter. First I made the MD mount to an M42 thread, as short as possible. Then I screw it on an M42 to NEX helicoid adapter. This creates a very pleasant close focus range of about 1 meter to 15cm close. I am very curious whether this lens will stand out in future comparison tests.

From the history (short version)

The municipality of Sankt Veit im Pongau extends both north and south of the (river) Salzach. On a low mountain terrace above the Salzach Valley lies the market town 763 meters above sea level. The picture of this small town still is characterized by the rectangular market square which was laid out in the 13th century with the parish church Saint Vitus standing elevated above its western end.

Already in the Early Bronze Age (2000-1500 BC) existed in connection with the in the area operated copper ore mining a settlement at Klinglberg. It is thought that the camp only in winter was inhabited and the coarse copper in spring was transported down the Salzach to the vicinity of Salzburg. Numerous findings also document settlements north of the market and at Brandstattbühel (1200-900 BC.). In the early Iron Age (ca. 450-15 BC.) also St. Veit was Celtic settlement area. From Roman times has been preserved a grave relief, thas has been walled in there in the church tower, on that a Celtic pair is represented.

Some time between 800 and 1100 arose on the sunny ideal logistical terrace a church settlement. The first written mention of the town as well as of the parish ("Parrochia sancti Viti") is handed down with the deed of gift of the Archbishop of Salzburg Gebhard from the year 1074. 1244 the Archbishop Eberhard transferred the parish to the cathedral chapter. St. Veit was for centuries the mother parish and thus a center of southern Pongau. Subsequently St. Veit in the late Middle Ages (13th century) was extended to a periodic market place, already in 1284 can be found the designation as "forum" (market place), in 1425 the market right was set out in writing. Since the secularization of the cathedral chapter in 1807 St. Veit is an independent parish again.

The first church was single naved and was probably built 850-950 in the Romanesque style. After the fire of 1334, which the church and half of the market fell victim to, this one was rebuilt and at the same time enlarged. In subsequent time yet several alterations and enlargements were carried out. The still today existing building is a four-naved Gothic basilica (around 1400), the only one in the province of Salzburg.

At the time of the great emigration under Archbishop Firmian in 1731 - the Pongau was the center of Salzburg Protestants - alone from the local jurisdiction Goldegg/St. Veit 3100 evangelical Christians had to leave their homes. According to tradition, they held their last worhip service at the today still existing chapel Pfarriachsteinkapelle. Most of the immigrants in East Prussia (Lithuania) found a new home. There they were friendly welcomed, but their desire to get settled united, could not be met. Only very few of them had managed to sell their goods before the emigration. In the directory of the goods of the emigrants being available in open sale, for Goldegg and St. Veit 268 farms were offered for sale. This list was sent to the Tyrol, Bavaria and to the Rhineland to gain good Catholic settlers.

To prevent a resurgence of Protestantism in Pongau, archbishop Firmian 1736-1741 for "better indoctrination" and monitoring of the people in the district of St. Veit Schwarzach a mission station had built (later Hospital). During this period, the mission house, farm buildings and the church in Schwarzach had built. The mission area extended to the judicial districts of St. Johann, Großarl, Goldegg, St. Veit, Gastein and Wagrain.

During the French Wars 1800-1805, St. Veit was repeatedly occupied by French troops and the population had to provide space for billetings of troops (Truppeneinquartierungen) and high payments to the French occupation power.

At the time of the freedom struggle of 1809 by the jurisdiction Goldegg (with St. Veit) 25 riflemen and 180 militiamen (Landstürmer) in defense of the Pass Lueg and Pongauer valley accesses were provided.

From a table can be seen that in the guardianship court Goldegg from May 1809 to March 1810 416 officers, 11,328 soldiers (Austrians, Frenchmen and Bavarians) with 126 horses marched through and, at times, also encamped here. Due to the chaos of war and the high cost of food, the country was sucked out and the people were impoverished.

After the capitulation of Austria in 1810 followed in Salzburg the Bavarian rule before it finally on May 1, 1816 came to Austria.

The Revolutionary year of 1848 for the municipality brought a major change. St. Veit like all other communities became a "free community with the right to self-rule" and on July 9, 1850, took place the first election to local council were Johann Rest (Neuwirt) became first mayor. This was based on the "Provisional Imperial Municipalities Act of 1848". The motto was "The foundation of a free state is the free community." Thus the tutelage by the sovereign's Pflegegerichte (administrative or judicial bodies) ended and it could develop a local self-government.

From 1873 to 1875 the railway line "Giselabahn" (Wörgl-Zell- Salzburg) was built and St. Veit after intervention before the Emperor on 5 November 1877 got a stop in Schwarzach. Great importance obtained the station as a starting point for the Tauern railway which was built as a direct connection to Trieste.

As a result of railway construction it came in the district Schwarzach to a strong influx. So this district was separated from St. Veit and in conformity with Imperial decision on 2nd June 1906 appointed to independent community of Schwarzach.

The First World War also on St. Veit brought much poverty and suffering. Thus St. Veit 1914-1918 was suffering many wounded, and 40 fallen and 5 missing men.

The severe agricultural crisis of the late twenties and the subsequent economic crisis leads to high unemployment, indebtedness of the agriculture and this is the breeding ground for the Nazi ideas. After the Annexation of Austria by Germany, many hoped in future an economic betterment. After initial economic successes, the Nazi terror and the Second World War also on St. Veit population brought immeasurable suffering.

There were many men coming back as disabled veterans. 63 St. Veiter have fallen and 13 are missing. Many men are in captivity as prisoners of war. The last returnee only on June 4, 1955 came back from Russian captivity.

After 1945 St. Veit was American occupation zone. There were many "bombed-out" people accommodated in St. Veit and there was a great famine. Austria at that time was among the countries most threatened by hunger in the world.

With help from abroad (especially America and Switzerland), the situation improved in the following years and by optimism, a strong will and hard work a better future could be created.

From now on Disney Castles MUST HAVE red roofs not McDonald's restaurants because Snow White and Prince Florian MUST BE the true rulers of Disney NOT the Tremaines and in future Disney ads the songs I've got no strings, Little Wooden Head, and Give a Little Whistle from Pinocchio and One Song from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs MUST replace I wanna be like you which is the racist song from the 1967 animated film The Jungle Book because the author of the Corduroy episode Cute as a Button was playing the song I wanna be like you which is the racist song from the 1967 animated film The Jungle Book on a radio while writing the episode Cute as a Button is why they forgot to show how they got Corduroy's button out of the storm drain and put Corduroy's button back on Corduroy the Bear's overalls and Betty Quan was even having lunch at an early 90s glass walled and red roofed McDonald's PlayPlace with the high dangerous sky tubes while writing the episode Cute as a Button and Corduroy's button rolling in the water pipe at the end of Cute as a Button is a reference to the high sky tubes McDonald's PlayPlaces had back in the early 1990s when Blue's Clues didn't existed yet is why I wanted McDonald's restaurants to be legally required be McEyebrows with the yellow and orange striped awnings and better and safe updated indoor PlayPlaces with low safe steps and slides and green chalkboards. Deboxing the Designer SQ Elsa and Hans Doll Set. Elsa has been deboxed. She is posed standing, supported by a Kaiser stand. Her cape is in a normal partially opened position, and her right leg is showing through the slit in the skirt. Her hair braid is draped over her left shoulder.

I have finally deboxed the Designer Fairytale Snow Queen Elsa and Hans Doll Set (2015). My set is #4597 of 6000. It was the only set that I didn't get at the Disney Store raffle, so I had to order her online. I show the set boxed, during deboxing and fully deboxed. After deboxing them, I place them back on their display stand, in a different pose.

I was a little surprised that Elsa has the body construction of the 2012 DS Classic Princess dolls, so has external hinged knee joints and ankle joints. It makes her legs a bit unsightly when they are exposed by opening the slit of the skirt. She has shiny pearlescent skin that is similar to the Harrods Elsa doll, but doesn't have the heavy blush. Her Snow Queen outfit also has embellishments that are more similar to that of the Harrods Elsa rather than that of the LE 2500 Snow Queen Elsa. But rather than the jeweled snowflakes of the 17'' LE Elsa she has single clear rhinestones throughout her braid, and a few on her head. The snowflake and icicle design in her cape are printed rather than embroidered (as in the 17'' LE Elsas) or glittered (as in the Classic Elsa). They are flat and smooth, and I don't think are as effective in depicting ice.

The major embellishments of Designer Hans over Classic Hans are the addition of white gloves, and a sword. However, It's disappointing that there is no scabbard for the sword - it is loosely sewn to his pants legs, which looks rather cheap.

I will show the dolls in side by side comparisons to other Elsa and Hans dolls in future postings.
