Back on the mainland we went into Wales - and I drove the Imp onto the Dovey Estuary sands - which greatly pleased my nephew! 1/7/72.

One of the 'must-find' things on any visit to Lincoln Cathedral is the Lincoln Imp. As befits such a mischievous creature, it can be difficult to capture. Here's a photo to help you. Good luck if you ever try to catch him yourself!

Hillman Imps on the South Terrace, Cork in July 1998. These cars created a bit of noise between the Cork Corporation and the property owner. HZI 216 and LAI 273 were the number plates on them.
A nicely restored 1967 Hillman Imp; it arrived with its more luxurious stablemate, the Singer Chamois. I've always had a soft spot for these wee cars, especially in rally trim. The annual Garden Fete and Vintage Rally at Desertmartin rectory.

Oh, what a shame it was about the Imp. Hillman, or Rootes really, built over 440,000 between 1963-76, but never got near the number of Minis sold, it's target rival. Despite only 39bhp from the 875cc Coventry-Climax engine, it was lively on the road, with good manners. It was also more practical than a Mini, with a folding rear seat and a hatchback. Reliability, or lack of it, was its achilles heal, but they have a strong following today - a very good one can be had for about £3500.
