Cooper, a 2-year-old yellow Lab, had a rough start in life with stomach issues, but his dog dad Sid said he is doing much better now. In fact, Sid said Cooper is “developing into a beautiful vibrant young male that I think is half duck. I could not keep him out of the water if I tried. If we could get paid for playing, we'd be rich.”

Siblings Sasha and Teddy are 3-year-old Yorkshire Terriers. “What I love most about their eyes is that they are so expressive!” says Joyce, their dog mom. “When they look at me, I just melt. I usually cave in to whatever they are wanting!”

Darla, an 11-year-old Maltese, had to have the mammary glands removed from the right side of her body two years ago. “She recovered surprisingly well,” says Geri, her dog mom. “She was a real trooper.”

Milo, a 5-year-old Rat Terrier mix, was rescued two years ago. "Amidst all of his small-body, huge-attitude bravado, he looks into my eyes with such loyalty and love that it melts my heart – right before he burrows under the bedcovers and goes to sleep,” says Mary, his dog mom.

Torii is 5 years old. Her name means "gateway to a sacred place" in Japanese. "It suits her," says Jan, her dog mom. "When she is next to me I feel a calmness that whispers quietly, like a haiku."

Max, who’ll be 10 in October, was adopted last August by her dog mom, Kathy. Max is really into her toys, and greets every visitor with one. “She does not like it when the toy squeaks, though,” Kathy said. “I think she thinks the toy is hurt and she gets quite distressed. She will whine and remove the toy from the room and place it somewhere else (safe).”

Max is slowing down due to arthritis. “This is so hard to watch, but we just concentrate on enjoying every single moment with her,” Kathy said.
