Another day, and another water drop collision!

With today's analysis of the splashes, I've concluded that I can see a pole vaulter!

Of course, your views may differ! :)

I know, I know! I promised you reflections all week, but unfortunately I was just too busy today!

I really do promise to bring you water drop reflection perfection tomorrow!

I'm sorry for posting and running, but trust me, my comments will be more meaningful tomorrow! :)

Now, I must go to bed! :))

I promised you I'd concentrate on the reflection today, so that's what I did!

Annoyingly, I must have knocked my water drop rig out of alignment, because all of the settings I wrote down to get these types of reflection didn't work! So there was a lot of tinkering to try and get this!

I'm happy enough with it in the end though...

This week's Macro Mondays group theme is Typography: 16/09/2013.

I rather liked the gold lettering against the red leather of this book of poems by Wordsworth...

HMM! :)

A new month has brought with it a new theme, although I'm keeping my options open!

This could either be Insect, Green or Shadow - or I may still go with just a random series of pics for a change!

I'll know more tomorrow! :)

Just a quick test shot taken in my kitchen with my new Nikon D800! It's going to take a long time to get used to how this camera operates, and what it can achieve!

This is shot using ISO 6400! I can hardly believe how clear it is, with only a tiny amount of noise - and that's more down to my processing than it was with the original image!

I can't believe how shallow the depth of field is either, using the FX lenses on a full frame sensor! This is shot at f/7.1, at 300mm, and the focal point is the tip of the nose - and focus has fallen off by the eyes already! Also, where did the writing go in the background? That's insane!

I think I'm going to need a lot of time to work out how to get the best from this camera - and I can't wait to start trying! :)

This week's Macro Mondays group theme is Eye: 17/06/2013.

I thought this close-up of a fly's head fit the bill nicely!

This week's Macro Mondays group theme is Games: 26/11/2012.

It was fun to get the toy box out and root around for some subject matter for this week's theme!

After rejecting various games, including Scrabble, Cribbage, Dominoes and Roulette, I eventually settled for taking shots of my travelling magnetic chess set!

HMM! :)

Before I go on, I must apologise for the long post - it's more like a blog! Please feel free to skip over it! I thought some of you would be interested though...

Okay, I know I've been moaning on about how I've got dust on my new camera sensor, and so today I thought I'd do something about it!

I also wanted to show you how much of a problem it was, to try and justify my moaning! :)

The image above is one of my water drop shots, after it's been processed! See those horrible black spots? Well that's indicative of dust on the sensor! You get the black spots because the dust is blocking the light getting to the sensor, therefore the sensor can't see what you're seeing, so registers a black splodge instead!

Obviously, I was shooting against a relatively simple background at f/16, so the spots make the image look pretty bad! Even though the background is simple, the spots aren't always easy to remove in Photoshop, especially when, like here, the gradient changes quite swiftly!

Therefore, cleaning my sensor seemed like a great idea!

So, to help me do battle with the dust, I'd ordered two new toys to help me eradicate the problem!

See the images and comments below for how the story from the battlefield unfolded...

As an aside, I've only had the D800 since the end of January, and it has accumulated more dust in those two months than in the five years I've owned my D300!

I'd be interested to hear what other people's experiences are of sensor dust - especially those owning the new mirror-less compact system cameras!

This next theme is my favorite. Everything I put into these visuals have a lot of personal feelings put into them along with a new technique I’ve learned. Bubbala, where are you?

So this is a shot of some baby sweetcorn!

I had high hopes for an abstract foody macro today, but am disappointed with the results - especially the washed out colours!

Don't you just hate it when you have an idea in your mind, and the tools to make it happen, and your ability just falls short!

Oh well, until tomorrow...

My Project 52 group theme for Week 47 is Primary.

With this week's theme being what it is, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get my trusty coloured pencils out of the pencil case and start shooting!

Initially I was going to shoot what I believed to be THE primary colours - Red, Yellow and Blue. If you're an artist, these are the colours that cannot be made by mixing other colours of paint together.

However, since the advent of technology, and in particular colour displays, overlapping coloured light is used to obtain the mix of other colours, and in this case, the primary colours are Red, Green and Blue!

Fascinating stuff!

Anyway, I went for the RGB combination for the theme...

I'm afraid I'm busy again, so will be playing catch up with everyone when I get a spare minute or two!

I went hunting for dragonfly in the New Forest national park the other day, but ended up having a hectic time chasing butterflies and damselflies instead!

It was so hot, all of the insects were buzzing around all over the place!

I was glad that this large red damsel was kind enough to rest long enough for me to shoot! :)

It was a beautiful day today, and I managed to get quite a few keepers, but I thought I'd continue my abstract macro theme for today's 365 shot!

This is condensation that has formed on the inside of a greenhouse window!

I was just about to give up hunting for insects in the garden today, when I heard the buzz, buzz, buzz of a familiar friend!

A quick scan of my azalea bush revealed this little fellow, who looked like he'd been enjoying the delights of an all day pollen party!

Thank you little bee for rescuing my 365 shot for the day! :)

A tiny blue daisy emerged in one of my garden planters this morning!

It has been plenty wet recently, so I've got an endless supply of shots similar to this...

I seem to have completely failed at my self imposed theme of reflection this week, but I just keep getting more and more interesting water drop collisions!

I made another quick tweak to my water drop rig today, and all of a sudden I was capturing collisions on nearly every attempt! This was my favourite of the bunch!

~ FlickrIT ~ Lightbox ~ 500px ~ Google+ ~ Website ~ Blog ~ Etsy ~

I really struggled to find something to photograph in my garden today!

When I first started my self imposed monthly theme of In Somebody's Garden I thought this month would be singing with colour and teaming with insect life! How wrong could I have been?

There's still another nine days of the month to go, and I haven't got a clue what I'll be able to shoot tomorrow!

Oh well, at least my little hebe bush did me proud today! :)

Having just woken up after another early morning coughing fit, I headed for my image archives again!

I didn't look back far for this one, but found it strangely soothing!

Sorry for posting and running. I'll catch up with everyone later today...

I quite liked this little fellow's green eyes!

It turned out he was quite difficult to shoot as every time I pressed the shutter, he must have detected the auto focus beam, and moved position slightly!

I guess I could have used manual focus, but I'm finding it more difficult to nail the focus manually now that I need to wear glasses! :/

This is the latest flower to arrive in my garden! It's a patio rose called Sweet Dreams!

I love its orange coloured petals and hope it will keep flowering all summer long!

This handsome chap is a spotted crane fly, and despite my field guide telling me that they're fairly common in my area, I'm pretty sure it's the first one I've ever seen!

I scattered a packet of wildflower seeds back in February, and this is the final flower still standing and it's nearly December! They were great value for money!

Sorry for posting and running!

My irritating cough and sore throat have turned into full blown man flu today, so I'm phoning it in with this abstract(ish) shot of my pond, taken from a bedroom window!

I didn't realise the water was so green until I started to process it on the computer!

I'm back off to bed now, but will hopefully catch up with everyone before the end of the weekend! :)

A small interlude from water splashes...

This is the only fly I've encountered this year - and also the first insect I've shot using my new camera!

I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the results from the D800, and am more eager than ever for more of my insect buddies to return!

Another day, another water drop, and this time another viewpoint and another colour!

I only wish I'd shot this *after* I'd cleaned my sensor! :)

This was an outtake from last week's Project 52 group theme of Primary.

I focussed on the reflections in this one but was a bit disappointed that they weren't a little more vibrant, to match the actual coloured pencils!

You can see the shot I went with for the theme in the comments...

I managed to get out of my sickbed today and went to see my dad - who is in a worse state than me!

We had a good old grumble together, and I took a handful of photographs in his garden, this one being my favourite!

I always enjoy the bluebells arriving! It's a real springtime event!

I'm trying to catch up with everyone, but sorry if I miss you! I'll be back in sync with you all soon! :)

My Project 52 group theme for Week 45 is Colours Of Nature.

Now, it being autumn, there were no end of subjects to shoot for this theme!

I posted a similar shot of this leaf earlier in the week, and because I think it fits the theme really well, and shows some amazing colour changes, I'm posting another shot of it! So there! :)

As well as the colours, I think the texture of the leaf is really cool too!

I'm definitely getting my money's worth from shooting these lovely lilies I bought over Christmas!

HFF! :)

Another day, and another white butterfly! This time it's a small cabbage white enjoying my newly planted up lavender!

My second attempt at wet cleaning my sensor went well, although there are still some annoying dust spots visible in the corners of the frame! Every time I clean the sensor I seem to get rid of the specs I was targeting, but end up with dust elsewhere!

Oh well...

Other than getting my bee fly shot earlier today, I got another lovely surprise when I visited dad's - as you can see, some of the cherry tree blossom had already opened! :)

A view of The Red Lion public house in Southampton, one of the oldest public houses in England.

The Red Lion has a very interesting history, with parts of the building dating back as far as the 12th century!

It was the scene of the trial of Richard Earl of Cambridge, Lord Scrope of Masham and Sir Thomas Grey of Heton who conspired against King Henry V in 1415, before Henry left from Southampton to battle at Agincourt!

My Project 52 group theme for Week 51 is Bokeh.

I think this week is the latest I've taken a shot for my Project 52!

Despite bokeh being one of my favourite subjects, I had no idea what I was going to shoot! I wanted to keep away from Christmassy, and thought I'd find a suitable subject during the week!

However, as Saturday morning arrived I still had nothing!

I looked at my previous P52 shots for inspiration, and there I noticed I didn't have any Toolbox images!

So, it was out with the copper screws, and into my kitchen table light tent set-up!

I'm rather glad I waited until the last minute as I quite like the results! :)

This week's Macro Mondays group theme is Skin: 3/12/2012.

I haven't got much to say about this week's image! Basically, as you can see, it's an orange, or more specifically, orange skin! That is all!!

HMM! :)
