I really wanted Insects to be my theme this month, but it was raining when I had time to shoot my picture of the day this morning...
...not to worry though, as this little fellow flew into the house through an open window, sat on my kitchen wall for a couple of minutes, then exited again through the same window!
He gave me just enough time to grab my camera and get a quick shot!
Looks like my month of insects is underway!
Sorry Jess (~ by jessica ~)! :)

It always pays to have a few photogenic objects at hand when doing a 365 day photo project! Obviously you never know when you won't be able to get outside to find an interesting subject, or when inspiration will fail you!
Last time I did a 365 in 2011, I had a whole raft of objects at my disposal, most of which I still possess!
So, do I have a grumble for you today? Well, yes I do!
The problem is, it's now day 8 and I've already used 5 of my 30 or so objects! I wish my photographic inspiration would come back!
Anyway, these are drinking straws, shot while firing a flash down the opposite end of the straws!
One of the things I love about a doing a 365 day photographic project is that it forces you to look at everything with a view to taking a picture of it! It's also one of the things I hate about doing a 365 day photographic project!
What do you other 365ers love and hate about the project?
It's been a while since I posted a shot for Fence Friday!
There's one there, way off in the distance! Honest! :)
HFF!

I've been busy putting together an Etsy shop over the past couple of weeks, to sell my photo greetings cards! If you'd like to take a look you can find it here!

Anyone else see a giraffe here? Only me? Oh well...
I've been playing with Lightroom 5 and its new dust spot visualisation feature! It's made it very easy to correct some of my water splash images that were taken with an extremely dusty sensor!
So, no more dust bunnies, only a dustless giraffe! :)

It's coloured blue. It looks like a bell. Therefore it must be a blue bell!
I tried changing my viewpoint today, and ended up with this!
I'm not completely happy with it, as I was hoping for a flatter collision, but I guess a collision is a collision, so it's not all bad!

It's the start of a new month, and therefore I need a new monthly theme!
My original idea was to go with Insects and Arachnids, but there are so few of them about at the moment, I don't think I'd be able to complete it!
So, I've decided to go with Nature, or maybe Abstract Nature if I can find enough subject matter!

Today I get older, each year adding a year of learning more to my life, I keep trying to pursue my dreams even if I have to fly for them! My wish this year is something more special, this year, want to love Me more, loving me more, pamper me more, find my happiness more often, not be afraid of my creativity and take it out more, that being different does not mean it is something bad, I want to socialize a little more instead of locking myself so much in my thoughts, I want to be more positive because before it was and little by little I have been declining in that, to be more energetic as old used to be. I want to break many walls and barriers until I reach my dreams and do what I like and be able to live on it freely, without ties, to be myself always. Be the best version of myself and above all; Enjoy the trip.
Thank you all for the congratulatory messages! 2️⃣4️⃣ years are not done every day :) I almost killed myself doing the photo haha, so I hope you will love her and share her a lot ♥ ️
After yesterday's trials and tribulations with my water drops and eggs set-up, I decided to go back to basics today!
I also decided that I needed to move away from high key lighting, as I have about 500 shots waiting to be processed that all feature white backgrounds!
So, I got my flash gels out again, and decided to go green!
I was quite pleased with the results, so for my mini theme this week, I'm going to try a different coloured collision each day, and hope I don't get sidetracked like I did with the reflection theme last week!

Today was the day I shot the overview video for my upcoming blog about my month of water drop photography!
This is one of the shots I got while shooting the video, which I was quite pleased with, as it meant I didn't have to go back and shoot something else, once I'd edited the video!
I like to think of this as my naked lighting set-up! No coloured flash gels were used, and the almost monochrome tones are very easy to manipulate in Photoshop should I need to add some colour after shooting!
It wasn't all plain sailing though! My first attempt at editing the video was disastrous! iMovie crashed after I'd been working for about an hour, and I lost everything, and had to start again!
Anyway, I've had so many people asking me about how I've shot these water drop images, I've decided to let you all have a look at the video before I've completed the blog post to go with it!
You can find it here on YouTube!
Let me know what you think! Don't be too harsh though, I know it isn't going to win any awards! :)
Despite shooting quite a few springtime images today, I had to return to my water drop rig to shoot my shot of the day!
It doesn't seem to matter how many times I press the shutter, I'm always fascinated by what I'm going to see next!
It never gets old! It's never boring! It's totally absorbing and completely fascinating! You can't help but become addicted once you've started! Even when you've got a keeper, there's an urge to try just one more time, just in case you get something better!
Even after getting this collision, with its fantastic reflection, I still managed to shoot another twenty or so images - just in case there was a better collision hiding somewhere in the drip tray! :)

I had a bit of an experiment with my lighting set-up for my water drop rig today!
I shot this with three external flashes, and placed a red coloured gel over the flash on the left hand side, but I left the other two flashes clear.
I wanted to see if I could combine colours shot "in camera" with colours added in photoshop later!
I think the experiment went well, as the photoshopped blue tint seems to blend quite nicely with the red!
Compare this to a previous shot where I used only coloured gels on the flashes to blend red and blue (see comments).
Anyway, I'm rather pleased with the results! What do you think?
Here's a link to the YouTube video showing my water drop rig in action, so you can get an idea of how the lighting works! The blog post I refer to is still being written, but should be finished by mid March - probably! :)

So, here is my month of March!
As you can see, I'm getting some really good results from my homemade water drop rig, and patented water drippy thing! :)
I haven't forgotten that I promised to write a blog to accompany my video, but real life has got in the way, as it often does, and I've had to delay its production for the time being!
However, I've decided to carry on with my water drop series through the month of April, which means I'll learn more about my rig, and so will be able to tell you more about my experiences when I finally write them up on my blog!
I hope you'll be patient with me while I continue to flood your contact pages with water! :)

A new addition to my garden this year is lavender!
I had it in my garden many years ago, but during some over zealous gardening on my behalf, I mistook it for a weed, and threw it away!
No chance of that happening again, as all newcomers are now being planted into pots, and are being labelled fastidiously! :)
HFF! :)

I can't believe it took me so long to dig into my large tub of Celebrations! Their time is now marked, and they'll be lucky to make it beyond the weekend! :)
After yesterday's frustrations with flash set-up, I decided to go a different way today, so this is the result of a 3 second exposure!
I had a selection of shots I could of used for today's Insect theme shot, but decided to go with this enthusiastic bumblebee!
I think he must have visited every flower on this buddleia bush at least twice before he was satisfied he'd collected enough pollen! :)

Today was a big gardening day for me!
Today was the day I potted up my water lilies, and put them in the pond!
Everything was going well until I started to submerge the final basket! As I watched it gently drop to the bottom, it snagged on something, and there was a disaster! The basket capsized, and sent soil, water lily and pebbles all over the pond! Argh!
I may be able to fish the bulb out with my fishing net when the water clears, but I fear it's lost forever! I was so annoyed at myself for not being more careful...
At least I got a picture of her before the disaster, and can rest assured that I have another two water lilies safely situated at the bottom!

SPIDER MAN vs. MYSTERIO🔥💥
I'm trying to mix up my springtime images with my water splash series, but I keep forgetting to post the shots of springtime! It'll probably be winter before I get them all posted! :)
Anyway, this is an extreme close-up of stamens inside a camellia bloom! I quite liked its colourful abstract qualities, so here it is!

My Project 52 group theme for Week 48 is Levitation.
I have to admit that I had a lot of fun making this week's themed image, although it took far longer to produce than I'd initially anticipated!
It took me a while to decide how I was going to levitate the coins above the coin stack.
Initially I thought I'd just use magic, but this turned out to be harder than I'd anticipated! So, I opted for a much more mundane technique, and attached the coins to thick cocktail type sticks using double sided sticky tape!
I took two shots, one focussing on the coin stack against a white background, and one focussing on the nearest coin stuck to the sticks. I then used Photoshop to merge the two, removing the sticks using a layer mask...
I quite like the resultant image, and am pleased I persevered!
I hope you like it too...
I decided against following the Project 52 group theme for Week 44!
That's because it's Halloween! I'm posting this skeletal hydrangea bract - not very terrifying, I know - but it's the best I could come up with for the supposedly scariest day of the year!
Happy Halloween! :)
