Longtime followers of my photos may recall that back in our old California days we had a little Weber Smoky Joe kettle for grilling out in front of our apartment. In France we had a built-in brick grill in our yard that we made a lot of use of. Charcoal grilling wasn't possible in our place in Chicago, so now that we're in the suburbs again we got a full fledged Weber kettle.

We grilled burgers and sausages before the big game. It seemed like the All American thing to do. Too bad the game ended up being one-sided and boring.

This winter's rains have been distressingly meager, but it has been enough to get the grass in our backyard to spring to life. And our neighbor's tree is in full bloom.
