Sorry Peeps if I overwhelm you with my leaf floaters. I can't get enough. The wind was brutal but the water was fab. Not much colour but no debris. I gave this a small crop only. Not the best quality but the colour and water I just Luv it. Happy Day All.

Our little guy decided a much safer spot to observe what the photog was doing would be from dad’s far side. This left me with multiple choices to take this shot. I could get into the prone position for a better POV. Or, even more absurd, I could have my entourage quickly dig a trench for the lowest position yet. Since I don’t have an entourage … Well, I decided on option three which was to remain sitting on the bench and just take the shot.

I keep talking about benches and sitting on them and I have yet to provide a decent (or any for that matter) bench shot. Well, if I remember, the next time I’m out there I will address this shortcoming.

This dragon fly was resting on some ivy leaves very close to the ground in my daughter's garden. I have to do a belly shot!

Some interesting facts on the compound eyes.

The huge compound eyes of dragonflies are composed of up to 30,000 facets or little lenses.

These compound eyes have a dorsal (upper) region that detects light directly from the sky above, and a ventral (under) region that collects light reflected off objects on the ground.

A dragonfly doesn't see as much detail as a human can, but its eyes and brain are extremely sensitive to motion.

They can detect movements separated by 1/300th of a second! ( So one must keep really still when photographing them ).

To a dragonfly, a movie might look like a series of still pictures.

Dragonflies have binocular vision, so they can judge distances.

( They can see you approaching ).

Studies are still being done on the way the dragonfly sees the world, but studies show that dragonflies have an incredible ability to see colors that humans can’t see, and in different shades and intensities, including ultraviolet light.
