It's in little moments like these that Presque Isle's charm as a small town comes into focus. This fire hydrant was among multi-colored companions in town -- we also saw a yellow one with an orange cap, and a rare ALBINO hydrant!!! Presque Isle, Maine. September 2006.
I wish this photo was better but its a still from a video, my camera was in video mode. I've always seen open hydrants in movies and on TV. my first in real life.

Fire hydrants are painted red & blue in Apopka. This one is in my neighbor's yard.

I do not know why it has the arrow on it. But the number is just to number the fire hydrants in my city. Over 600 of them.

If the internet searching hasn't misled us, a Clow hydrant, model 2036, with two (2) 2.5" discharges and a single 4.5" discharge; it was cast in 2001 and removed from service after being bumped during a construction project in the Monterey County area (and the water department required it be taken out of service.)
The hydrant is being cleaned and will be moving into our Fire Stations 4 Hire location in a few days.
