A picture of a green and yellow fire hydrant.

I learned something today! As I was taking photos of these fire hydrants, our mayor stopped by and we talked. He explained to me that the different colors on hydrants represented the amount of pressure at that hydrant! Blue hydrants have the most pressure, at 500 lbs. The black hydrants in our town are dead; replaced when they installed a new water system. At the time this was done (years ago), the old hydrants were not removed and now caused confusion for the firefighters. Our present mayor solved this problem by having all 25 of the dry hydrants in our town painted black!

The Daily Shoot #187: Fire hydrants come in many colors and forms. Make a dramatic portrait of your local fire hydrant.

Hoffentlich brauchbar...

Street fire hydrant on the background of an old yellow wall with peeling paint.

Another flipped-lens shot from the Brownie.

An aged fire hydrant outside the IC.

Taken in Amsterdam, NY, December 2011.

A fire hydrant just outside of the Air Force Memorial. You can see it in the background. I don't think I've seen a fire hydrant this polished and shiney before.

Runner up reflection photo for today.
