Note: this photo was published as an illustration in an Aug 2009 Squidoo blog titled "Timing my Life in Songs." It was also posted as an illustration in a Vietnam Veteran's Memorial website. And it was published in a Nov 13, 2009 blog titled "Çocuklarda ve Gençlerde Bel Ağrısı." It was also published in a May 28, 2010 blog titled "Take a Moment to Reflect This Memorial Day."

Moving into 2015, the photo was published in an Apr 13, 2015 blog titled "The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C."

The Vietnam Memorial opened to the public on November 11, 1982. I visited not too long after that, though I don't remember exactly when. All I remember was that it was a dark, cold, drizzly Saturday afternoon, and that it was very, very sad.

God knows how many times I've been back to Washington since then, but some 25 years after my initial visit, I thought I should come back and see it again ... when the weather was likely to be better, and when I would likely see a different generation of visitors.

I made two separate visits, and got two different impressions. My second visit was just before dawn, at 5:45 AM. There was a crescent moon, and one star, in the pink-and-purple sky; but there were no people at all. Though the memorial is simply a chronological list of names, one can imagine that the 58,261 dead are sleeping in peace as the night fades away and the sun returns to warm the granite stone once again. I took a few pictures of this early scene; you can decide for yourself if it's peaceful or sad.

My first visit was just before sunset, on a Sunday evening. I heard one of the park guides telling her flock that the summer crowds had been smaller this year than in the past, but there were still plenty of people along the length of the wall. What interested me most about the visitors was their age: I saw a few people who looked old enough to have been adults back in the Vietnam era, though I saw no one in uniform, and no one who looked like he or she had actually been there.

But there were far more people of a younger generation: people in their 30s or 40s, whose father or mother or uncle or aunt might have served in that war. Not surprisingly, I saw people carefully searching out specific names, and resting their finger or hand for long moments on a single name, as if they might somehow be able to communicate with a dead relative after all these years.

And then there were the children -- some as young as one or two, but most looked to be 8 or 10 or 12. They may have been the grandchildren of some fallen soldier, or they may have been entirely unrelated to those 58,261 individuals. But one way or another, you could see that the Wall made an impact on them: they were quiet and reverent, respectful of what they could barely grasp, as the list of names surrounded them and stretched as far as they could see, to the left and to the right.

Indeed, the very idea of creating a monument that consists of nothing but a long inclined wall containing a list of names is so simple, so ... well, almost primitive ... that you can't imagine it would have any impact, at least not on the typical jaded visitor. But it does have an impact, it really does...

If you haven't seen this memorial, you owe it to yourself to carve out a little time when you next visit Washington. And if, like me, it's been 10 or 20 or 25 years since you last saw it, I think you need to come see it again.

Always good storm chasing stories to tell about my weather adventures in 2014.

Days right after my knee replacement... Home from the hospital & I definitely wasn't supposed to be out and about. Knee was almost in a cast and I wasn't supposed to be doing anything to aggravate the situation. Though my quest for severe weather never ends and I wasn't going to miss another possible chase especially when its in my backyard. This storm was going to be a photogenic monster... Decision was made & off I went.

Back @ home. I waddle out to the front driveway & look due east. There are always thunderheads with storms. If your lucky enough to witness one that are simply jaw dropping your indeed lucky. Today was that day.

Epic Thunderheads to my due east of Kearney. Photographic Bombshells of a Thunderstorm as it passed to the east of the city.

Personal Note *** On the original set Back in 2014 I had use the free Avery photo editor here Flickr and it wasn't the best but I had no prior knowledge of editing them back then. Only shot in .jpg format and I didn't do the best by over coloring and over saturation. Was very under experienced in photo editing back then.

Another epic set of thunderstorm captures from South Central Nebraska remastered through Lightroom and Photoshop. Though I paid for it with my knee just being replaced. I was super sore and the swelling was unreal a few days after this event. All worth it when it comes to what epic views I caught storm chasing on that particular day!

Όταν έρθει η βασιλεία του Θεού, θα φτάσει επιτέλους η μέρα που περιμένουν απεγνωσμένα όλα τα έθνη και οι λαοί! Tι σκηνές θα εκτυλιχθούν τότε στους ουρανούς και στη γη; Πόσο όμορφη θα είναι η ζωή στη βασιλεία; Με το έργο «Ο ύμνος της βασιλείας: Η βασιλεία κατέρχεται στον κόσμο», οι προσευχές χιλιετιών θα πραγματοποιηθούν.

Discover this spectacular 4400 square foot mural downtown on the alleyway walls between Talbot Street and the Moore Street parking lot. On the east wall, the orange and red colours feel hot, like sunrise into midday; on the west wall, the green and blue shades feel cool, comparable to late afternoon and sunset. The mechanical and digital forms that tower over the trees on both sides of the alley indicate human intervention into the natural environment, almost akin to alien spaceships. The hot wall connects with the early stages of industrial development when nature was exploited without much thought given to the long-term consequences. The cool wall indicates a shift in thinking, an opportunity to find a sustainable way for human beings to engage with nature. Will we continue to be like aliens on earth, destroying our surroundings, or will we find a new balance? In a way, the mural feels hopeful. We have done the hot work of development and re-shaping nature to our purposes through technology, and now we need to do the cool work of making this less destructive. Sunrise, sunset – if we do not find ways to live in balance with each other and the environment, are we risking ecological catastrophe?

Well, I did take a long break off from Flickr. I've had some downtime over the past few months. Had Surgery, and it was bad and required. I have been on the mend.

Wanting to be physically healthy enough for the 2018 storm chasing season, I have recovered healthier than I have been in the past 10 years.

So something came over me just recently, as winter is now chaining over to spring here in Nebraska. I've had an itch to get out and do some photography.

So with not a cloud in the sky, lol, I decided to blow the dust of the camera case and catch this sunset. It had been cloudy for the past few days. That deep spring grey gloom. Cold winds etc. The sun finally peaked out @ sunset, and I couldn't resist the ambient light.

So your seeing something rare from me. I vary rarely post pure sunset images. I wanted to have a warm up before my first storm chase in 2018, which is just days away.

Ο Θεός λέει:«Ό,τι έχει δημιουργήσει ο Θεός, συμπεριλαμβανομένων εκείνων που κινούνται αλλά και εκείνων που είναι ακίνητα, όπως για παράδειγμα τα πτηνά και τα ψάρια κι όπως τα δέντρα και τα λουλούδια, συμπεριλαμβανομένων και των ζώων της φάρμας, των εντόμων και των αγρίων ζώων που έπλασε την έκτη ημέρα – ήταν όλα καλά με τον Θεό και επιπλέον, στα μάτια του Θεού, όλα αυτά, σύμφωνα με το σχέδιό Του, είχαν όλα φθάσει στο στάδιο της τελειότητας και ήταν στο επίπεδο που επιθυμούσε ο Θεός. Βήμα-βήμα ο Δημιουργός πραγματοποίησε το έργο που επιθυμούσε να κάνει, σύμφωνα με το σχέδιό Του. Το ένα μετά το άλλο, τα πράγματα που ήθελε να δημιουργήσει εμφανίστηκαν και η εμφάνιση του καθενός από αυτά ήταν η απεικόνιση της εξουσίας του Δημιουργού και η αποκρυστάλλωση της εξουσίας Του, και εξαιτίας αυτής της αποκρυστάλλωσης, όλα τα δημιουργήματά Του, δεν θα μπορούσαν παρά να είναι ευγνώμονα στη χάρη του Δημιουργού και στις παροχές Του. Καθώς οι θαυματουργές πράξεις του Θεού εκδηλώνονταν, αυτός ο κόσμος κομμάτι-κομμάτι γέμισε, με όλα αυτά που δημιούργησε ο Θεός κι άλλαξε από το χάος και το σκοτάδι κι έγινε καθαρό και φωτεινό κι από τη θανάσιμη ακινησία πέρασε στη ζωντάνια και την απεριόριστη ζωτικότητα. Από όλα τα δημιουργήματα, από τα μεγάλα στα μικρά, από τα μικρά στα μικροσκοπικά, κανένα δεν δημιουργήθηκε χωρίς την εξουσία και τη δύναμη του Δημιουργού και υπήρχε μια μοναδική και έμφυτη ανάγκη και αξία στην ύπαρξη του κάθε πλάσματος. Ανεξάρτητα από τις διαφορές τους σε μορφή και σε είδος, φτιάχτηκαν από τον Δημιουργό και μόνο, για να υπάρχουν υπό την εξουσία του Δημιουργού. […]... »

I no longer whisper

The five syllables

Deep in the night

No longer call out

Feel you by my side

Or dream of skating

Hand in hand

Across the shimmering lake

Of tomorrow

Or the next day

Month

Or year

I cannot recall

Who you are

Who you were

Or how we met

Cannot remember much

Of anything

At all

Until the sun sets

Lighting up the sky

Like you once lit my heart

All at once

I remember every kiss

Every smile

And every touch

HI-SCHOOL ROMANCE ( Harvey )

Hi-School Romance was a teen romance comic that ran from 1949 to 1958. The years following World War II saw the rise of dating as we know it today, with teenagers being given a great deal of freedom to meet each other without constant adult supervision. This is a true product of that time, full of malt shops, sock hops and double-dates. In it, starry-eyed schoolgirls do their best to win the man of their dreams. To accomplish this, however, there was always some obstacle to overcome, whether it meant fighting off a rival or merely learning how to play the game of love better.

What may be most remarkable about this series is noting how much has changed between men and women in the last few decades—as well as how much has stayed the same.

I was very touched by this sculpture of a tiny human. I wanted to reach out and touch it but I knew it would be cold, the opposite of what it represents. A tiny, delicate yet cast iron baby is curled up on the pavement. It is so small it is easily missed. This sculpture, by Antony Gormley, is based on the artist's six day old daughter and our 'precarious position in relation to our planetary future'.
