WizzAir machine to London Luton, went well for the first shot in Poznań in the early morning. Without de-icing, it rolled powerfully onto runway 28 and flew to Britain.

Freshwater Birds of Ireland with Jim Wilson
www.markcarmodyphotography.com
The Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) is a large, long-legged, long-billed shorebird first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. It is a member of the Limosa genus, the godwits. There are three subspecies, all with orange head, neck and chest in breeding plumage and dull grey-brown winter coloration, and distinctive black and white wingbar at all times.
Its breeding range stretches from Iceland through Europe and areas of central Asia. Black-tailed godwits spend winter in areas as diverse as the Indian Subcontinent, Australia, western Europe and west Africa. The species breeds in fens, lake edges, damp meadows, moorlands and bogs and uses estuaries, swamps and floods in winter; it is more likely to be found inland and on freshwater than the similar Bar-tailed Godwit. The world population is estimated to be 634,000 to 805,000 birds and is classified as Near Threatened due to a decline in numbers of around 25% in the previous 15 years.
Godwits from the Icelandic population winter mainly in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and the Netherlands, though some fly on to Spain, Portugal and perhaps Morocco. (wikipedia)
The bird depicted is the islandica race of Black-wits that breed in Iceland and winter in Ireland. In 2004, the population size of Icelandic Black-tailed Godwits was estimated to be around 47,000 individuals. Given the continued expansion since then, it is likely that there are now around 50-60,000 Icelandic Godwits. In a site in Cork Harbour called Harper's Island Wetlands, up to 2,000 of these beautiful birds may be found in winter, making this an internationally important wintering site for this species.
This photo is of one of the largest flocks of Godwits I have seen at Poolbeg, Dublin Bay.

In her ear he whispers "You're mine. The minute I told you to spread your legs and you did it, you were mine. When I told you to bed for it and you did, you were mine. When you put your hands behind your back without being told, I owned you. You never had to say a word. You're a natural subissive." In those words she knew she was his.

Santorini is a small, circular archipelago of volcanic islands located in the southern Aegean Sea. It lies 200 km southeast from Greece's mainland. It is also known as Thera or Thira, forming the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands.
Santorini is essentially what remains of an enormous volcanic explosion, destroying the earliest settlements on what was formerly a single island, and leading to the creation of the current geological caldera. The volcano is still active, and the last eruption was in 1950, causing an earthquake that destroyed many villages on the island.
Its spectacular physical beauty, along with a dynamic nightlife, have made the island one of Europe's tourist hotspots.
When most people think of Santorini they think blue and white but as soon as the sun start to set the colours change dramatically.
How the image was taken
> Camera: Nikon D300
> Handheld
> Three exposures (-2, 0, +2) bracketed
> Lens: Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED
Post Production
> Photomatix Pro 4.0 (Detail Enhancer) HDR
> Photoshop and Aperture
> Curves & Levels
> Watermarking and border added using BorderFX
High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a digital imaging technique that allows for a greater dynamic range of luminance between the light and dark areas of a scene.
It works by combining multiple images that have been identically composed but using a different shutter speed for each image. This will give you a range of images that are darker and lighter than the basic exposure. As a result this ensure that you have extra highlight and shadow detail which allowed for the church to retain it's detail.
There are various HDR software programmes out there but I have been using Photomatix.
