Napels, Parco della Tomba di Virgilio.
Gang van het Romeinse Aquaduct van Serino.
Op dit punt sneed het aquaduct met zijn voornaamste tak de helling van de heuvel, terwijl die met zijn galerij de Crypta Neapolitana omsloot. De waterleiding, gedeeltelijk toegankelijk door een aardverschuiving is geheel uit de tufsteen gegraven en loopt circa 50 cm boven het originele straatniveau. Goed geconserveerd, nu van binnen nog over een korte afstand beloopbaar, valt de bekleding van de wanden met gemalen potscherven op, in de oudheid gewoonlijk gebruikt om de oppervlakten die in contact kwamen met het water, ondoordringbaar te maken. De waterleiding is in dezelfde tijd (of iets later) gemaakt als de opening van de Crypta. Het monumentale aquaduct (ongeveer 96 km lang) werd inderdaad ontworpen en gemaakt in de Augusteïsche tijd, in het kader van een geweldig programma van watervoorziening, vooral bedoeld om te voorzien in de groeiende eisen van de commerciële haven van Puteoli en in die van de vloot van Misenum, door Augustus persoonlijk opgericht.
De lijst van centra bediend door het aquaduct, is bekend door een inscriptie uit de tijd van Constantijn, ontdekt bij de bron van het water. Uit een kunstmatig bassin gevoed door bronnen van de hoogvlakte van Serino vertakken zich twee waterleidingen: de ene naar Beneventum, de andere, daarentegen, in de richting van Napels. In Napels volgde het trace hellingen van de heuvels van Capodimonte, van de Scudillo en de Vomero totdat het bij de Crypta Neapolitana kwam. Daar maakte zich een vertakking los ten dienste van de keizerlijk villa van Pausilypon, bewezen door een graffito uit 65 n.C., terugevonden gedurende de bouw van de Galleria Laziale. De hoofdader ging verder, dwars door Fuorigrotta en Bagnoli, tot aan Puteoli, de omgeving van de Thermen van de Via Terracina passerend; een tweede tak voedde de thermen van Agnano. In Puteoli liep het aquaduct in het hoge deel van de stad, terwijl hij de bassins van Carditus en Luscianus vulde, vervolgde langs de Starza, daarna naar het Avernische meer (waar een tak zorgde voor de voorziening van Cumae) en eindigde in de Piscina Mirabilis, boven de haven van Misenum.
Belangrijke restauraties zouden hebben plaatsgevonden in de Flavische tijd, toen hele stukken vervangen werden door andere parallelle (gemaakt om misschien in relatie met de schade opgelopen door seismische gebeurtenissen van 62 n.C., door de uitbarsting van 79 n.C. of door aardverschuivingen); en ook onder Constantijn, in 324, toen alleen de hoofdader, tot aan Napels, gereconstrueerd werd over een lengte van circa 11.800 m.
Over een deel van zijn loop, vooral in de gebieden extra moenia, liep het aquaduct niet in een gesloten galerij, maar in de open lucht, met karakteristieke arcadebogen in opus latericium, waarvan een stuk over is in Napels, in het gebied van de Ponti Rossi.
Als men doorgaat met de trap te beklimmen, die men aan de linkerkant ziet met een panorama over de golf van Napels, komt men bij de zogenaamde Tombe van Vergilius.

Ο άνθρωπος είναι θνητός, είναι από σάρκα και οστά, και ο Θεός είναι ο μόνος που μπορεί να σώσει τον άνθρωπο. Με αυτόν τον τρόπο, ο Θεός πρέπει να ενσαρκωθεί και να έχει τα ίδια χαρακτηριστικά με τον άνθρωπο για να κάνει το έργο Του, ώστε το έργο Του να φέρει καλύτερα αποτελέσματα.

It was a frosty morning along the Tuolumne River.
Photo taken with Nikon D600, Tokina 17-35 Pro FX F4 and Kenko Circular Polarizer. I took 9 images at one stop increments (RAW Format). To achieve this with the D600 I used auto-bracketing; it only takes 3 shot burst, so I set the 1st 3 at 3 stop increment, the 2nd 3 at 2 at stops, the 3rd 3 at 1 stop, to take a total of 9 images. I used a Nikon wireless shutter release to limit movement; I dropped it in the river that morning was lucky enough to snag it back out, shook it off and used it all day.
To achieve this dynamic range, color and effects: I use Lightroom 5.5 for workflow and final edit. I first used Photomatix Pro 4 to fuse all 9 images. Now using auto-bracketing I end up with 3 images with 0 stop adjustment because of the 3 shot burst. Photomatix will automatically adjust these to make all 9 images at whatever stop level you input, I set it for 1 stop increment. Once this is done I use Photmatix Fusion Preset to merge the 9 images together. It has many Presets, but this gives me the most natural effects. Once fused, I save in Tiff format to retain as much raw data as I can. I then use NIK Collection; Color Efex Pro 4. For this image I used its Pro Contrast adjustment; it improves the dynamic range and has one of the best Highlight and Shadow adjustments I’ve seen (even better than Lightroom’s). I do my final exposure, then tweak Clarity and Vibrance a bit in Lightroom 5.5 and save in jpg. My Logo (TI_in_Yosemite) is done in Gimp 2.8 and Layered onto the final image. TI_in_Yosemite stands for: Targeted Individual in Yosemite.

October already.. it seems 2022 is on our doorstep and I haven't even fully processed 2020! 😮
I'm enjoying my autumn holiday now (one of the few perks I have as a teacher). And besides doing a lot of resting.. I have also been doing lots of editing of my photos and videos.
In August, I visited a castle in the south of the Netherlands. And because we had a very disappointing cold wet summer, I opted for a maxi dress.

It was quite magical walking around in that castle.. so beautiful!!
I know owning a castle like that is very expensive and not very practical.. but I'd love to dream. 😊

Had a fun day in Amsterdam on Sunday with Marleen .. cycling around on a rented bicycle, having drinks at various bars (including the Hilton Skylounge) and admiring Amsterdam in a different way. 😊
At the end of the day, it was getting really cold though.. and I wasn't really dressed for it. 😛 So we quickly went to a restaurant to have food.. and where I could take off the jacket for a pic of the dress. 😉
Next time, I need to film myself riding a bicycle wearing this outfit! 😛

The building, located on the northeast outskirts of Toledo's historic center, most likely formed part of the almunia (fortress) built by Al-Mamun of Toledo, king of the Taifa of Toledo (1043-1075). Following the Christian conquest, the site was called the "royal almunia," which was still used in 1294, although by this time the Castilianization of the name "Huerta del Rey" (King's Garden) had taken hold. The name Galiana became popular from the 16th century onwards due to the disappearance of the authentic Galiana palaces, located in the Alficén complex next to the Alcázar.
During the Mudejar period, the north and south facades were rebuilt. According to Gómez-Moreno, at the beginning of the 20th century, when the building was in poor condition, the windows with lobed arches, the plasterwork of the framing—dating from the 14th century—and remains of paintings—which he considers to be earlier—were still visible in the rooms on the second floor. Few fragments of this decoration remain today, but Gómez-Moreno's testimony seems to indicate two renovations. First, the painted plinths and some of the plasterwork were completed in the mid-13th century. Later, John I donated this royal possession to the Jerónimos convent of La Sisla in 1385. Almost a decade later, it was purchased by Beatriz de Silva, who married Alvar Pérez de Guzmán in 1397. It was shortly afterward that the second renovation of the building was undertaken, as evidenced by the Guzmán and Silva coat of arms featured in the plasterwork.
Due to successive inheritances, the orchard was divided among various owners. The majority continued to belong to the Guzmán y Montijo family, while other areas belonged to the Chapel of Santo Tomás and the Brotherhood of Santa Caridad. After the confiscations of the 19th century, the House of Montijo acquired the undivided shares of the entities whose real estate assets were sold to the State. Empress Eugenie was interested in restoring the palace, which ultimately did not happen. As time passed, the site fell into disrepair.
It was declared a historic-artistic monument, belonging to the National Artistic Treasure, on June 3, 1931, by a decree published in the Gaceta de Madrid with the signature of the provisional president of the republic, Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, and the Minister of Public Instruction and Fine Arts, Marcelino Domingo y Sanjúan. In the 20th century, the Duke of Peñaranda sold the estate to Alejandro Fernández de Araoz and Carmen Marañón, who began the rehabilitation in 1959.

El edificio, situado en las afueras, al noreste del casco histórico de la ciudad de Toledo, muy probablemente formó parte de la almunia construida por Al-Mamún de Toledo, rey de la taifa de Toledo (1043-1075). A raíz de la conquista cristiana, el lugar se denominó «almunia real», aplicándose todavía en 1294, aunque por estas fechas se impone la castellanización de «Huerta del Rey». Por un lado, a mediados del siglo XIII se realizarían los zócalos de pinturas y algunas de las yeserías. Posteriormente, Juan I donó esta posesión real al convento de jerónimos de la Sisla en 1385. Casi una década después fue comprada por Beatriz de Silva, quien contrae matrimonio en 1397 con Alvar Pérez de Guzmán. Sería poco tiempo después cuando se acometió la segunda reforma del edificio, como atestiguan los escudos de Guzmán y Silva que figuraban en las yeserías.
Por las sucesivas herencias, la huerta se fraccionó en diversos propietarios. La mayor parte siguió perteneciendo a la familia Guzmán y Montijo, mientras que otras zonas pertenecían a la capilla de Santo Tomás y a la cofradía de la Santa Caridad. Tras las desamortizaciones del XIX, la Casa de Montijo adquirió las partes proindiviso de las entidades cuyo patrimonio inmueble enajenó el Estado, interesando a la emperatriz Eugenia la restauración del palacio, lo que finalmente no ocurrió. Conforme pasó el tiempo, el lugar fue cayendo en el abandono.
Fue declarado monumento histórico-artístico, perteneciente al Tesoro Artístico Nacional, el 3 de junio de 1931, mediante un decreto publicado en la Gaceta de Madrid con la rúbrica del presidente provisional de la república, Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, y del ministro de Instrucción Pública y Bellas Artes, Marcelino Domingo y Sanjúan. En el siglo XX el duque de Peñaranda vendió la finca a Alejandro Fernández de Araoz y Carmen Marañón, quienes en 1959 emprendieron la rehabilitación.
