Taken in my garden, I managed to catch this Bumble Bee in flight as it made a 'beeline' for a flower. You can just see the blur of it's wings as it hovered for a second.

Here are the "rules" I set myself when building a Hover Car Racer:
- bold colour schemes
- a whiff of 'muscle car'
- some asymmetry
- enclosed cockpit

While at my Mom's house cleaning her swimming pool, I noticed this small Hoverfly as it was flying from one garden flower to the other. With my camera at the ready i managed to squeeze out this wonderful image of this very small "Hovering Hoverfly"

Another photo of the Eastern Spinebill in the pullout of it's hover. At this speed and ISO it was just enough hand held to catch it in flight.

The hummingbird hawkmoth is a day-flying moth with a wingspan about two inches (50-58mm). It has a brown, white-spotted abdomen, brown forewings and orange hindwings. It is very swift on the wing and an expert hoverer. The wings beat so rapidly that they produce an audible hum and can be seen only as a haze. The darting movement from one flower to the next with the long proboscis uncoiled completes the illusion of a hummingbird. Another day-flying moth, the Silver Y, is often confused with the hummingbird hawkmoth, but is smaller and darker.
I spent an hour & a half trying to get a decent shot of these, they dart about so quickly!
Whilst the Brown Falcon and Black-shouldered Kite were having their dispute over the territory this Nankeen Kestrel (male) just got on with his hunting.
