A happy little pollinator.

I always find it fascinating to observe Rough-legged hawks hover for some time while hunting. They usually hover much higher in the sky however this time the hawk was lower and did not land after scrutinizing the ground for prey.

Who needs the London Underground (or a bike) when in SL you can use a hoverboard!

I always enjoy shooting hoverflies when they hover in the sun with a dark background. Great practice with focus, and getting close without spooking them.

From last year at the Hummingbird sanctuary,

Happy weekend everyone.

I was at Chaplin Lake in Saskatchewan when this Common Tern was looking for fish. It would hover in one spot while searching the salt water below and then dive down if it spotted food. In this photo it took a brief moment while hovering to check me out! This looks to be a breeding adult.

I was out today looking for subjects in the yard, when I noted that the hoverflies were out, in the sun against a dark background. I had the long macro, but it _is_ a 200mm, also, so I started shooting. Although small in the frame, they were in focus, even with my manual focus.

Somewhat common and locally abundant.

Another shot of this gorgeous little hummer.

It's going to be a few days before I get the opportunity for more shots like this as I trimmed all the blooms off of the bee balm. And wouldn't you know it - aphids like these plants as much as the hummingbirds. Working on a natural way to get rid of them....

Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

Have a Happy FriYay and a beaut weekend everyone.

Happy Fly Day Friday!

After a couple of complete no shows, the stars aligned with the last bit of warm sunlight and a hover just about near enough. Over the moon and one of the first R5 shots that I'm really pleased with.

This hoverfly kept returning to the same leaf, then moving up into the air near. Got out the trusty 200mm macro (manual focus) and started shooting. Got a few keepers out of the session.

It was a very windy day.

Have a nice day and thank you for visiting!

kingfisher hovering, heavy crop.

This noisy miner was putting a lot of effort into getting a little sap that was oozing from this gum tree. I had never seen them hover like this before.

same bird as the previous shot, I hope to have better luck with more closer shots,

I just love the bright red bill and blue to emerald plumage of the broad-billed hummingbird. This species supposedly eats 1.6 to 1.7x their bodyweight in food each day. And like other hummingbird species their tiny legs and feet are incapable of walking or hopping. Their mobility comes entirely from flight.

Time for another dragonfly..

A Blue Skimmer, I think, catching the last of the warm sun at the billabong.

I have to be lucky enough that one will pause to hover in a pocket of light, and give me time to focus at long range then zoom in on him.

Lol, I've taken plenty of blurred ones…

Hand held. No edits.

Went out birding a few weeks ago and came across a small flock of mountain bluebirds. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't look at a bluebird without smiling. They would fly about and hover in place, then gracefully fly down for whatever was calling for them. Over and over they would perform this routine, so it gave me lots of practice capturing them. LOL.

I chose this image today because it marks 1 year since the passing of my mom, a very emotional day for me. She was my rock. She also happened to love the birds and would watch them from our window at the feeders. This image made me smile ... it brought back a reminder that she's always with me, hovering over and guiding me through everything that she taught me through life. I truly miss her every moment of every day, but I know she's here with me. Thanks for letting me verbalize what today means to me ... and how the image relates. © Debbie Tubridy Photography

I've been practicing my hummingbird photography with the Z9 and both the 500PF and 800PF lens, and I've been very pleased with the results. In the past with my DSLR's, I've had mixed results keeping these little dynamos in focus. Now, with the Z9, my keeper rate has gone up exponentially. I'm so looking forward to getting them on some flowers!

Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!
