An early morning stroll in a city park in the Spring turned out to be a wonderful morning shooting these amazing hamming birds. They usually come and go, but do spend time hovering around flowers every now and then, which are my only opportunity to capture them. This image is probably my fav of that morning. Hope you enjoy it.

Lake Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. When standing on the cliff it looks as though the lake is hovering directly above the ocean.

Hovering

1. To remain floating, suspended, or fluttering in the air: gulls hovering over the waves.

2. To remain or linger in or near a place: hovering around the speaker's podium.

3. To remain in an uncertain state; waver: hovered between anger and remorse.

“Do not hover always on the surface of things, nor take up suddenly, with mere appearances; but penetrate into the depth of matters, as far as your time and circumstances allow, especially in those things which relate to your life” Isaac Watts

Not perfect by any means but given my lens and how fast these little birds move I am fairly happy with this one.

The wind was blowing so hard the Gulls could hover in place. The contrast with the rocks seems like a good use for B&W. One of my winter challenges will be to "see" photos in black and white.

Thankyou for looking :-)

I think its a Hoverfly :-)

The compound eye is quite prominent. The two tiny protruberances in front of the head could be antennae or light sensors.

The protruberances are antennae. The insect also has two tiny ocelli or simple eyes on the top of the head.

I'm pretty sure this is a hover fly (Toxomerus geminatus) but not entirely sure.

I thought that I would try o photograph a hover fly as several in garden. This is my very first attempt !! I took about 20 at 3 or 5 frames /s

I tried several shutter speeds. also aperture f/16 to f/20

Had on 'manual' mode and group focus so then the nearest object is focused.

I sat in my car and watched this Kite work the field and there were only a couple of times it hovered close enough that I could get a good crop. I love watching these birds in action!

It was a close encounter with a kestrel that first ignited my passion for bird photography. They are such wonderful birds.

I get mesmerized watching them.

The Hover Flies were out in force on these yellow irises around the small pond at Tarrawarra Museum and Winery in the Yarra Valley yesterday. It was a glorious day and the countryside was a brilliant green under a bright blue sky. Perfect to take a friend out to celebrate her coming birthday and recovery from knee surgery some months ago. The only problem was the lack of access for disabled people close to the building due to works. But there was a courtesy shuttle if we wanted to wait. For my neglected 100x project
