Hovers are such a delight to photograph, so if you view my macro work you will see a lot of them.

Another 12 hour day here.Left home at 4:30 a.m. Arrived at 5:20 a.m. and left at 5:30 p.m. My best hovering shots thus far. A Great Egret and Gray Heron came by again today.

Typical hover action for this bird, just waitng for his prey to make its appearance.

A Belted Kingfisher hovers, as it looks for fish, over a channel at the Big Creek National Wildlife Area on Long Point in southern Ontario.

I always find Kingfishers very wary subjects. This is an extremely big crop but I liked the wing position

I have seen the American Kestrel hover a few times but this is the only time I have been able to get even a record shot.

Pied Kingfisher on hunt

Another example from a vintage tamron zoom...which really gave pleasing results. This insect is the hover fly which is often mistaken for a bee.

The United States Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier hovers with landing gear deployed.

--------------------------

The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) AV-8B Harrier II is a single-engine ground-attack aircraft that constitutes the second generation of the Harrier Jump Jet family. Capable of vertical or short takeoff and landing (V/STOL), the aircraft was designed in the late 1970s as an Anglo-American development of the British Hawker Siddeley Harrier, the first operational V/STOL aircraft. Named after a bird of prey, it is primarily employed on light attack or multi-role missions, ranging from close air support of ground troops to armed reconnaissance. The AV-8B is used by the United States Marine Corps (USMC), the Spanish Navy, and the Italian Navy.

(Sphaeroporia scripta)

This is a photograph of a nice black and yellow striped hover-fly I took late last year 2016.

This is a macro close-up shot of this colourful common insect.
