1st MSC hosts mobilization readiness exercise
Camp Santiago, Salinas: Soldiers of the 1st Mission Support Command's Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment hosted a mobilization readiness exercise at Camp Santiago, P.R., 14-27 March.
During the event, HHD Soldiers completed readiness checks for over 1,000 Soldiers. Events such as this are commonly held annually to ensure that commanders can maintain their unit readiness.
"We try to do this as the units get closer to their available year in order to have them improve their overall readiness and mobilization posture in the event they get selected (for mobilization) down the road", said Gerardo Rodriguez, mobilization officer for the 1st MSC.
Rodriguez said MRXs help units maintain readiness for deployments but they also serve the individual Soldier.
"As part of the MRX ... there are different stations and one of them, one of the most important, is medical. A Soldier is completely checked and whatever cannot be fixed at this location ... the Soldier can go to a private (medical) provider and get that situation fixed and that helps them with their overall readiness",he said.
Soldiers rotate through eleven different stations in total where they are checked in by HHD Soldiers and efficiently move through the station. While the process has been refined over the years at times people still tend to get impatient.
Staff Sgt. Anaselly Ramos, logistics noncommissioned officer with the mobilization team, know the experience can be stressful but to help keep the level of frustration down she leads groups of Soldiers through stations when she sees openings. While each group of Soldiers is instructed to follow the schedule given to them for the MRX, Ramos' method keeps things moving along too.
Keeping track of the entire flow of Soldier traffic is a system called the mobilization plan data viewer.
"It shows all the stations and actually it runs the SRP (MRX) completely", said Spc. Hector Rodriguez, from Bayamon.
"It's tracking each Soldier by station ... you can see how many have completed (the stations) and how many have not",added Rodriguez, who is assigned to the 311th Quartermaster Company.
While the process can be tedious for the Soldiers going from station to station, one Soldier working at the medical readiness station found the MRX to be an opportunity to challenge herself by practicing her public speaking skills.
Spc. Jenniffer Gonzalez Diaz, a traffic management coordinator, who's primary language is Spanish, began giving the medical station briefings to many groups of Soldiers. Gonzalez admits that speaking English is not one of her strengths but her determination brought her recognition among her peers and even the Commanding General of the 1st MSC Brig. Gen. Fernando Fernandez.
"They gave me the opportunity to participate in this activity so I can ... help them in the system with the Soldiers, and I practiced a lot my English",said Gonzalez.
As a member of the the 390th Seaport Company, in Ceiba, Gonzalez recognizes the importance of refining her English language skills. When given the opportunity to refine her abilities when she signed up for the Army, Gonzalez participated in English language courses.
"I improved my English, I practiced my English when I took the class but I knew a little bit of the language because we are Puerto Rico and we are bilingual so we took classes when we started in (grade) school", said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez knows this isn't the only challenge she'll have to overcome in her military career, which is why she stays motivated and maintains a positive attitude.
"The important thing for me is to show people that you are trying, don't get upset, don't get mad if someone corrects you because they are helping you",she said. "If you don't know, ask, so you can learn ... the stuff you learn nobody can take away."

This is a photograph from the finish of the 43rd and 40th Rennicks and Father Delany Cup races and 5 mile road race hosted by Bohermeen Athletic Club at Ardbraccan, Bohermeen, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 6th of September at 11:15. The race started and finished at the Bohermeen AC community center and followed a left-handed circular route around the roads of Ardbraccan and Bohermeen. Overall it was a perfect day for running. There was a distinct autumnal feel to the air but there was little or no breeze and this made conditions perfect for running. This year also seen the introduction of a special 5 x 1 mile relay for all ages from 13 upwards which added an additional team aspect to the race. The Rennicks and Father Delany cups are presented to the winning male and female team respectively. A team of 6 is required for the male team and a team of four is required for the female team. As always there was a very professional level of organisation carried out by Bohermeen AC on a well stewarded and marked out course which finished on the final stretch of their beautiful tartan track. A very extensive spread of refreshments were available afterwards. Credit must be extended to the members of Bohermeen AC who provide three top quality road races every year - their half marathon in March, their very fast and popular 5KM in June and their final race today for the 5 mile road race. Bohermeen AC is also the home of the Meath Road Relay Championship. The club and the locality continue to be a heartbeat of grassroots athletics in North Leinster.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Battleship North Carolina hosted the North Carolina National Guard’s 440th Army Band for their 56th Annual Memorial Day Observance in Wilmington, May 29, 2017. Arts House is a City of Melbourne contemporary arts initiative. Each year Arts House presents a curated program of contemporary art featuring performances, exhibitions, live art, installations and cultural events.
This is a photograph from the 6th annual Longwood Village 10KM and 5KM Road Races and Fun Runs 2015 which were held in Longwood Village, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 18th October 2015 at 11:00. This is the sixth year which Longwood GAA/Village have hosted race events. This year's event was an outstanding success and builds on the fantastic success of last year's race. The overall number of participants, including walkers, was over 440 which is up on last year's final numbers. There was over 220 runners and joggers in the 10KM while there was almost 200 runners, joggers and walkers in the 5KM. The events were organised as fundraisers for both the adult and juvenille teams at Longwood GAA club. The event also provided a fundraising opportunity for the local St. Vincent de Paul charity. Overall the whole day was a great success with the hard work put in by the organising committee ensuring that participants enjoyed their race experience. Both routes were accurately measured, kilometer points clearly marked, junctions well stewarded, and electronic timing provided. The event provided many local runners, joggers, fun runners and walkers with a local event to support whilst at the same time providing runners preparing for events such as the Dublin marathon with an opportunity to race a short, fast, distance in the lead up to marathon day. The GAA club provided excellent stewarding and traffic management all around the course. The race had a professional feel to it and it is sure to grow next year given the very positive feedback from many of the participants today.

Longwood is a small village in South East Co. Meath and is close to the town of Enfield with access to the M4 Motorway. The weather was almost perfect for road running. A beautiful crisp autumn morning with dry cool conditions. 5KM Course: The 5KM started in Longwood village. Runners then took a left turn in the Village down St. Oliver's Road. This straight section of road brings runners to a left turn onto a very well maintained boreen road for less than one kilometer. The race then emerges and joins with the 10KM at Stoneyford where the runners take a left and then another left before arriving back at the finish line in Longwood GAA club. Overall this is a very fast and flat 5KM with no hills to speak of.
10KM Course: The 10KM event begins in Longwood Village outside Dargan's Pub and proceeds westward out of the village. There are some interesting points along this part of the course. At the 2KM point the runners will run under the double bridges - an aquaduct for the Royal Canal and a bridge carrying the Dublin Sligo Railway line. The race then enters county Kildare just before the 3km and after taking a right turn at the four-cross roads known locally as Lally's Cross it returns to County Meath on top of the River Boyne Bridge (Ashfield Bridge) which forms the county boundary. The race follows a straight road for the next 2KM until runners encounter Blackshade bridge which is the toughest climb on the route. As a point of interest Blackshade bridge brings runners back over the Royal Canal and the Railway line. The race then crosses the River Boyne again at Stoneyford before taking a right which will bring runners on a testing two kilometer stretch with some short hills. The 10KM course then joins with the 5Km course for the final 1.5KM back to Longwood GAA club for the finish.

Hosted at The Bear Trace golf course, more than 100 Southern alumni and friends enjoyed a beautiful day at the annual alumni golf tournament on Sunday, November 1, 2020. Proceeds from this event supports student scholarships.
December 27, 2018 - I have never been a fan of the OAT Home Hosted Lunches as I have said before in my photo feed, however we had a very enjoyable lunch with this Christian family in Madaba. The lunch and conversation was very good. The daughter took a group selfie photo with all of us and I was the point person she was going to email it too. There was a communication breakdown and I never got the email. I was going to share the pictures I took with the family.
