At Honeoye Falls, I've always wanted to get as much of a reflection of the big red building on one side as possible. The other day I moved way back to an awkward position and got, I think, the most reflection possible.

LA&L 433 & 425 lead a train of 32 cars North over Honeoye Creek in Rush, NY on January 30, 2025. The last time I tried this location a couple of weeks ago I had to get further back as the ice up closer to the bridge was not good. The ice is good and thick now with just a couple small pockets of open water. Getting closer to the bridge avoids getting some power lines in the photo, which are located just above where I was standing on the ice.

......from beside the falls in Honeoye Falls. They have a lot of nice reddish-colored buildings here. As you drive across the bridge you can see on the left, you look right and see the falls.

NO INVITES PLEASE

Another attempt at using the orton effect.

This photo was taken at the Cumming Nature Center, a few miles south of Honeoye, NY. We went for their annual pancake breakfast, which is part of the maple syrup production demonstration in March.

Mmmmm... maple syrup. :) (though not from these trees -- these are red pines!)

I have been waiting to try this shot for the last 3 weeks. I am usually done working by noon on Fridays and can go out and catch the LA&L. I have been prepared to catch the Northbound crossing Honeoye Creek at Golah Road, with my chest waders at the ready. Of course the road train did not run the last two Fridays, but it did run today, August 28, 2020. Unfortunately we had over 2 inches of rain the previous afternoon. I could not get out far enough to the right to clear the tree that obscures the bridge as the water was just about to the top of my waders and I was not far off the shore to the left. This should be a good shot to attempt again when the water is back down to normal levels, as long as the road train runs on Friday.

Honeoye Falls (/ˈhʌniɔɪ/ HUN-ee-oy)[2] is a village within the town of Mendon in Monroe County, New York. The population was 2,674 at the 2010 census. The village includes a small waterfall on Honeoye Creek, which flows through the village and gives it its name. The name Honeoye comes from the Seneca word ha-ne-a-yah, which means lying finger, or where the finger lies. The name comes from the local story of a Native American whose finger was bitten by a rattlesnake and who therefore cut off his finger with a tomahawk.

A repeat lunchtime visit to Honeoye Fall, NY. Couldn't resist the urge to photograph the falls even with a steady rain coming down!

LA&L 433 & WNYP 426 are stopped at Howletts in Avon, NY to make a pickup on November 7, 2024. The LA&L is almost impossible to photograph here if the sun is out. With the overcast sky, I stopped just long enough to get out and expose a couple frames before heading down to Golah Road to await the train crossing Honeoye Creek.

It's been a slow learning process over the years, but its become very clear to me that you don't have to include all of a waterfall to get a pleasing shot. Especially so when approaching waterfalls you've been to many, many times before.

Milo perched above Honeoye Lake perplexed as to why I would even joke that we would get to see sheep on this adventure.
