Ice along the sides as the water was really rushing over today.

A long exposure down by the mill at Honeoye Falls

LA&L 428 & 433 cross Honeoye Creek with a Northbound road train of 38 cars in Rush, NY on February 16, 2021. I wanted a Winter shot here with decent snow and we finally got enough of it to cover the ground and then some. I tentatively inched my way out on the ice into the middle of Honeoye Creek to get the desired angle I wanted. That is moving water under the ice, so it can get thin in a hurry.

The Conrail local to Lima is on the return trip back North to Rochester. Some of the crew are on the ground as they prepare to drop the gondola on the old "Peanut Line" trackage in Honeoye Falls, NY on 2/27/1980. The LV had a spur into Honeoye Falls, and there was a connection to a small remnant of the "Peanut Line". The switch for the spur is about where the first box car is. The power is up close to the crossing as that is where they parked the train the night before. They will back up a couple car lengths and then make the move into "downtown" Honeoye Falls.

Penn Central 9577 is departing North from Lima, NY on a very gloomy April 21, 1977. This is the Conrail local that ran from Rochester to Lima and return on the old Lehigh Valley Rochester Branch. The train is heading back North after finishing up its work in Lima. My chase vehicle at the time was my 10 speed bike, and I did chase the train from Lima to Honeoye Falls. It was getting pretty dark by the time they got to Honeoye Falls about 5 miles away. I got some images there too, one of which can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/85501582@N03/39167347241/in/album-7...

The Conrail local to Lima crosses Main Street in Honeoye Falls, NY on the Winter evening of February 20, 1979. The brakeman is returning to the warmth of the cab after flagging the crossing. This was ex Lehigh Valley trackage, and of course it is all gone now.

After spending hours in the Rochester area putting their train in proper order, our wait at Golah, NY at this location, that has been tried and failed by myself before, is finally rewarded. Lavonia Avon & Lakeville's Alco Centuries C425 #425 and C430 #433 can be heard miles away and are in run 8 with 54 cars trailing behind on the stiff pull after crossing Honeoye Creek. Well worth the hike, heat and wait.

Thanks to Mike S for assistance.

I have posted a similar view of this with the flagman getting ready to climb back onto CR 2031 at the Corby Road crossing in Lima, NY on February 20, 1979. WIth the flagman back in the cab, 2031 heads across Corby Road. With the snow packed deep on the tracks, the local left its train in Honeoye Falls and ran light down to Lima and return to clean the rails off. The light was fading as the 2031 crossed Corby Road shortly before dusk. Here is the pic that preceded this one:

Looks like it could use some gutters.

LA&L 425 & 428 haul 15 cars back to Lakeville, crossing Honeoye Creek at Golah Road in West Rush, NY on 12/19/2013.

The water in Honeoye Creek is still very low because of the local drought. Water is only about a foot deep in the wide areas. I took the time to wade a bit further upstream for a slightly different view of the LA&L 426 leading the Northbound road train on September 25, 2025.

The Conrail local to Lima is ready to head South after dropping off some cars on the old Lehigh Valley main at Rochester Junction in Mendon, NY on January 4, 1980. The local often dropped cars at the junction that did not need to go to customers South of Rochester Jct. They would pick the cars up on the return trip back North to Rochester. The bridge over Honeoye Creek can be seen in the distance, but the tracks had long since been removed.

LA&L 420 & 425 have 19 cars Northbound over Honeoye Creek in Rush, NY on October 30, 2020. Fall colors never really popped here for some reason, but there are decent blankets of orange & yellow leaves on the ground in a few spots. Postings have been minimal the last couple of weeks due to working an insane amount of OT. I'll have the rest of 2020 off from work after Nov. 25 however since I hardly used any vacation time this year.

Conrail caboose 18720 brings up the rear of the Lima local heading back North and across the trestle over Honeoye Creek in Mendon, NY on March 21, 1979. This branch line was part of the Lehigh Valleys Rochester Branch. The trestle was located just a short walk South of the Sibley Road grade crossing. This line was abandoned by Conrail in 1981. I used to fish here frequently in my younger years as this is only about a mile and a half from the old homestead.

In 1977 Honeoye Falls, NY still had a railroad and an airport. Here PC 9577 on the Conrail local that went to Lima is heading back North at Main Street at dusk on April 21, 1977. The Honeoye Falls Airport is on the right. This was part of the Lehigh Valley Rochester Branch. I was armed with the Graphlex loaded with Tri-X and my 10 speed bike. The rule of the day was that I had to be home by dark. I was pushing the limits as I still had about a 3 mile ride home.

I stood in ice cold water that was above my knees to get this shot. Still not much Fall color at this location as the Northbound LA&L road train crosses Honeoye Creek in Rush, NY on October 16, 2020. I really need to invest in a new pair of waders. I was freezing as I drove back home.

Conrail RS-32 2040 leads the local into Lima, NY on March 6, 1979. Between Honeoye Falls and Lima the line ran through farm fields. The run around track and industries in Lima are behind me.

Great afternoon for a stroll along the Bird Song Fairy Trail in Mendon Ponds Park.

Honeoye Falls, NY

Penn Central RS-11 7601 works Beam Milling in Honeoye Falls, NY during the grain harvest in the Summer of 1977. This was part of the Lehigh Valley Rochester Branch. There are a couple sets of rails under all those weeds. All of this is long gone now.

LA&L 420 & 433 are Northbound with 19 cars at Golah Road in Rush, NY on September 4, 2020. I'm still working out the best angle to shoot this location. Might have to clear some brush off to the right to get a better angle on the bridge, which is mostly obscured by that tree.

In May 1976 I was a 16 year old Junior in high school with a 10 speed bike and a 110 instamatic. The ex Lehigh Valley branch down to Lima was about a mile and a half from home. You could hear the Conrail local to Lima blowing for the crossings at Rush Mendon Road and at Rochester Junction, and I would have plenty of time to ride over to Sibley Road or to Monroe Street in Honeoye Falls and get the train at the crossing. Here is PC RS-11 7604 at the Monroe Street crossing in Honeoye Falls, NY sometime in May 1976. Scan of a matte finish print.

Penn Central 9577 is stopped at the Main St. crossing in Honeoye Falls, NY at dusk on April 21, 1977. The brakeman is walking up to flag the crossing with a flare. This is the Conrail local that ran from Rochester to Lima and return on the old Lehigh Valley Rochester Branch. The train is heading back North after finishing up its work in Lima, about 5 miles to the South. My chase vehicle at the time was my 10 speed bike, and I did chase the train from Lima to Honeoye Falls. It was getting dark at this point and I still had about a 4 mile bike ride home.

the centre of attention in the town of Honeoye Falls, New York, south of Rochester on a mild winter day.

CR 2516 & 2500 spot a gondola on the old Peanut Line in Honeoye Falls, NY on February 27, 1980. It was hard to tell that there was actually any rail in those weeds. The gondola was for a waste concern company IIRC. View is along Norton Street, looking toward Main Street in Honeoye Falls.

Conrail U25-B 2516 at Monroe Street in Honeoye Falls, NY on March 28, 1980. This was the branch down to Lima, and part of the Lehigh Valleys Rochester Branch.
