Made of cypress for long-term usage.
Also my new "coffee" curtains. Never mind the junk on the counter. I didn't feel like cleaning before I took the pic.
My sister and brother-in-law moved into their first house this weekend. (A rental, but better than the apartment they had before). While Johnny was out working, my parents and I helped Phoebe with the unpacking and settling in. Here's Mom lining the kitchen shelves

It is not that obnoxious in real life! This was when it was still freshly painted so it was very PINK and BRIGHT. It darkens up as it dries. It also needs two or three coats. Plus with the couch against it and pictures hung up, it won't be so ... BAM. Though I do like the punch it gives the room.
Judah srsly knows she rules the house--she just jumped up on the uncovered couch. Whatever. She's my Judah.

Like I said, it's pretty incredible to see something you've pictured for a long time in your mind materialize and become real. It's amazing how it looks exactly like what I had imagined seven years ago. It was a lot of work, but I think it turned out to be pretty, modest and cozy.
The theory was that roots from the maple tree had invaded the septic system junction box blocking the water from running off from the tanks into the leach field.

After pulling the lids off our septic tanks showed that they were completely full but the water wasn't running off as it should it was decided to investigate the junction box downstream of the tanks to see if it was plugged. The box is about 4' down so Ray brought out his Bobcat to do the heavy work.
Our new kitchen was finished literally one day before our offices closed, and one week before California's statewide shelter in place order went into effect. We never cooked a meal in it – other than a few quick work from home lunches – before we decided to retreat permanently to the mountain house (we also never ordered a new microwave!).
