Had a wonderful short trip to visit our son....a very long trip to get back home. Left Las Vegas at 6:30 AM....flew into an ice storm in Michigan....drove a two hour trip in three hours....but home safe and sound. A 5.5 hour trip was a 12 hour trip. Priceless:)

week 4
I had originally planned to take this week's photo at a lake I recently found in the back of my neighborhood. But about 10 minutes before I went out, I decided that I'm going to take this photo right here, at the place where I've lived for the past six years.
Tomorrow, I leave my life in Virginia to move to Houston, Texas. I've never been so scared or thrilled or nervous or excited or anxious. So many changes are ahead in the next few days, and I can't wait to see what happens. But I'm also truly going to miss so many people here. I have made some friendships that I hope will transcend the boundaries of distance. Right now is a weird mix of nostalgia and adrenaline and, for the first time, I'm ready to embrace it.

This is home. I haven't done any work to the outside of the house yet, except putting in a new porch light. That garden needs to be reshaped and replanted, the big bushy tree in front of the window needs to be ripped out. I need a screen door, and I'd like to illuminate the front of the house more.

Birthday got better!
My brother and sister took me out to a local quilt show, and lunch of barbecue.
(I love barbecue)
Then my brother took me to IKEA which is like Disneyland for poor people with big ideas and I bought some stuff for my apartment.
Then he helped me carry all the stuff through the apartment complex and tonight I put some of it together and I am happy.
More stuff to put together during the week.

I am loving the Marius stool. It is a nice hit of color and useful and cheap.

Taken on my drive home from work one night. This isn't the sharpest of photos because I was in a moving car and driving at the time. I like the sense of movement it gives though. I get a nice unobtrusive view right when I get into the city off of the highway where I live. Sometimes the expansive sky is very beautiful like on this particular night - so I decided to take a snapshot of it.
