It's about time I posted a Melbourne shot again...

This storm was quick moving and brought a lot of rain, wind and even hail almost 1" in size.

Fort Matanzas National Monument

Who would have thought that a tortoise species, typically found in deserts, is widely existent in Florida. This friendly fella built its nest right next to Fort Matanzas’s driveway, not minding any passing cars or stopping tourists. This was their home after all.

We finally got the books moved in and everything's coming together. I have to hang the clock over the TV, and we're getting a new (gray) couch.

What do you think?

Home Weather Stations are not the harmless old folk items you may think. (If you can believe the DeconstructionArt website.)

I might say severely damaged home, or total loss. This home is across from Shelly's cottages. A few houses next to this one are gone, just gone.

I get to return home day! I’ve been away from my home due to a flood that started Sept 11. That was 42 days ago. We’ve been evacuated from our home for 37 days. We’ve lived in a borrowed RV and two hotels. The last hotel, the Hilton Homewood Suites has been very nice to us, and I would recommend it.

I was able to visit my home last week. My house is in fine condition. My heart goes out to all those that lost their homes, or had extensive damage. It’s breathtaking driving up to my home and seeing motels gone, roads and bridges gone and some of my favorite cute little homes are gone. Some spots show no evidence of a home ever being there. The river is still running a little bit, it is in a new location, a location it chose those couple days in September. They river area is wider, the trees have all been torn down and there are boulders, some the size of cars, they are scattered in this “new” area. Where I live, we had 18 inches of rain over a couple days. The first day it rained 14 inches. This is very unusual. I’d be surprised if we got 14 inches a year.

Rolling, Pivoting, Sliding and Hinging

Seven doors were designed for four openings in a loft overlooking the Mississippi River on the north edge of downtown Minneapolis. Each set of these doors takes advantage of a different mechanical operation. Four shoji inspired doors are suspended by rollers on a wide flange, separating the master bedroom from a sitting room. The various orientations of these doors transform the relationship and circulation between the two spaces they define. A monumental pivoting door/wall provides entry into the master suite. In its open position, the door disappears and only comes into view obliquely as one approaches it down a long corridor. Two sets of doors allow the space of the kitchen to be closed off from the dining and living spaces of the loft. One door, employing hidden sliding mechanics that counter balances the forces on the door, cantilevers in two directions, one in the open position and one in the closed position. The final door, situated over the countertop of the kitchen, utilizes a series of pulleys, shaft collars, hinges, cables and a gear reducer, to transform a curved place into a three dimensional sculpture that is best described as the open mouth of a whale shark.

Homer's harbor on a lovely March afternoon

In Milwaukee, Wisconsin at 2000 W Wisconsin Avenue. Captain Frederick Pabst. The Pavilion --"The 1893 Colombian Exposition, also known as the 1893 World’s Fair, was held in Chicago and became a significant event in American history. The Pabst Brewing Company hired Milwaukee architect Otto Strack to design a trade pavilion just for this event. Located in the Fair’s Agricultural Building, the pavilion was used to display Pabst Brewing Company products. Within the pavilion’s interior stood a thirteen square foot model of the Pabst Brewing Company’s buildings atop an elaborate platform supported by gnomes. The model, originally washed in gold, is said to have cost Captain Pabst $100,000 and was highly regarded at the fair for its beauty of presentation. The entire structure was constructed of tan terra cotta emblazoned with symbols of the brewing industry including hop vines, beer steins, and the god and goddess of barley and hops. The exterior was also highlighted with gold leaf and crowned by a magnificent art glass dome. In November of 1893, the Pabst Brewing Company was presented with a certificate for brewing excellence at the Exposition, not the often thought blue ribbon. After the fair, Captain Pabst had the entire structure dismantled, crated, sent to his Milwaukee residence and rebuilt as a private conservatory." From the history of the Pabst Mansion

Currently they are using this as the place to purchase tickets, start the tour and a small gift shop. This section is in much need of repair/restoration.
