After an afternoon hike through the park, I watched these ground squirrels, which have recently emerged from hibernation, for about 20 minutes. This cutie, with whom I was trying to bond, kept protesting my presence but it seemed like pantomime to me because I heard nothing.

I'm putting this story to rest for the winter. We're going to have to wait till the snow melts to see what happens next =)

10 pounds of clothing later, I made it back up to the mountain top so I could put this tale to rest for the season. I think I may end up re-editing most of this series so I can make the colors consistent. Everytime I check them on a different monitor they turn out being far more yellow than I intended. I really need a color corrected monitor.

List of clothing: Layer of underarmor, an undershirt, a flanel shirt, a sweater, and the coat, a pair of skinny jeans, a pair of regular jeans, neck scarf, face scarf, beanie, gloves, and 4 pairs of socks, and my feet still ended up being numb by the time I got back to the car.

I managed to grab just one hour to go and get a few woodland shots near me, before it all vanishes. There was a light rain falling and a sort of half mist floating about. The light was gorgeous at that point, and it wasn't far after midday. I thought a low contrast rendition would be suitable for this one, as it brings out the subtle textures and colours more effectively I think. The whole atmosphere was a soft and eerie one. On reflection I am not sure that including the road in the fg helped, and I might end up making a square crop just under that branch that sticks out to get rid of it. Not that it overly bothers me, I quite like it as a reminder that they are a fact of life.

These woods are in an area of ancient woodland, and I was fortunate enough to hear a talk a couple of years back by the countries leading woodland expert about them. Although mainly oak, there are also plenty of beech, but the oaks are much smaller trees than further up country, mainly due to the salty sea breeze and strong winds. Trees on Northern slopes are noticeably taller. Anyway, I love this area, and just for the record, the road in this shot was cut into the hill for access to a large estate nearby, and all the locals used to have to walk miles around the woods to get to the villages at the top of the hill.

This was shot on my relatively new contax 50mm prime lens, and the detail at 100 or even 200% is incredible. (Original size - www.flickr.com/photos/24562498@N03/6334957361/sizes/o/in/...) I highly recommend them for this kind of work. Less handy for taking pictures of children running about when you are focusing manually! Still a bargain for £160 plus £20 for the adaptor.

I feel like going into hibernation. This is my studio where I hang out almost every day, and even today it's not putting a smile on my face... :(

I have had some horrible dolly experiences this entire week....MANY... - so today a new girl arrived, and the stupid Greece Seller did not protect her with anything, so Styrofoam peanuts melted in her gorgeous hairs and all over her body....unbelievable. It gets worse...but I think I may have to go into hibernation..... Is it a full moon?

Busy with drawing lately.. Dormouse, in graphite pencil on 135gsm cartridge paper.

The big spider which has been hibernating behind my shed came out tonight to maybe lay her eggs on our rotary washing line lol.

Which is strange as i believed Garden like most Orb spiders only live one season, Dying in winter after leaving egg sacs, Which this Specimen hasn't done.

Trying some new makeup styles lately, very minimalist. Limited concealer to just the chin and top lip and small amount of foundation mixed with moisturiser as cover plus lippy and masscara.

Also got hold of one those Ah / Genie bras they are as comfortable as they advertise.

Just enlarged the opening at the bottom on both sides of it and sewed in a bit of velcro and put my forms in that way, stops them dropping or moving.

Looks smooth and feels very realist

Been hibernating in the flat too long and so pressed myself out finally after some weeks. Didn't get all that far, just took a walk around my small housing complex and this was taken at the far end just seconds before some of my favourite neighbours showed up, which was nice. The wife was keen on photography and was taking a course when I met them a few years ago. I have some pix of them in my other stream and they are definitely amoungst the ones I want to migrate to this new profile and so I will dig them out now. Shall try another walk tomorrow - Hogmanay is special to us Scots!

Winter is knocking on the door. Miss Cheeky has taken to hibernating after breakfast every morning for the past week. The wet weather sure does not help. 🐶
