I never saw anyone wear a life jacket in the lock. Actually, I never saw anyone wear one any where on the whole trip.

 

We had them handy though on the rough days.

This helpful poster had pride of place in the front of the carriage.

The notice reads "Don't smoke in a crowd, coats are expensive".

By the way, the Japanese are crazy about smoking. There is almost nowhere you can't smoke. Mobile phones on the other hand are banned in most confined public places because they are "annoying to the neighbours".

Everything about the sign was right about our hotel except that I didn't see anyplace around there for horse riding.

This helpful little robin came and supervised while I was cloning willow trees today. Here he is, sitting on one of the willow sticks in the ground, waiting for a tree guard to be placed round it.

So, yeah, I was gonna try and get a progress shot of my Woodland Shawl...I'll have to try again another time. Mal thinks the yarn is tasty, and Jack just wants to cuddle it (he was patting it, smushing it into a pile, rolling around, and then rubbing his face against it...cute, but too much potential for harm, all it takes is one little slip of a claw).
