The light might be challenging but Colas Tug 60026 still makes a fine sight passing through an autumnal Horbury Cutting as it takes charge of the 08.55 Preston Docks - Lindsey (6E32) discharged bitumen tanks for the very first time.
My first visit to this classic spot - and helpfully one which only entailed falling out of the car to bag.

One of my attempts at the "Macro Mondays" theme "Star".
This week we would like to pay tribute to Hans (flic.kr/ps/2bpyNi) and his wonderful macro photography by posting one of his past themes.
Hans gave us many great themes over the years and it was hard for us to choose. We have decided on the theme Star . Chosen because he was a person who had a profound influence on others and was a source of inspiration. Indeed, he was a Star.

Ok, having a go at the wine glass shot is definitely good for your health! I haven't caught the perfect image but it is so much fun trying!
I need to get a flashgun, any suggestions would be helpful.

One from a 2011 adventure in Tibet.
Happy Children roll an old tire down main street in Lhasa Tibet... Sometimes Simple Pleasures are best.
It’s been 13 years since I came upon these playful children in Lhasa, and yet this photo still warms my heart. I found the Tibetans to be a friendly and helpful people, as are most of the folks I have met on my journeys.

Tibet:
Tibet is the highest region on Earth, with an average elevation of 5,000 m (16,000 ft) Located in the Himalayas, the highest elevation in Tibet is Mount Everest, Earth's highest mountain, rising 8,848 m (29,029 ft) above sea level.
The Tibetan people are an East Asian ethnic group native to Tibet. Their current population is estimated to be around 6.7 million. In addition to the majority living in Tibet Autonomous Region of China, significant numbers of Tibetans live in the Chinese provinces of Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan, as well as in India, Nepal, and Bhutan.
At an altitude of 3,656 meters (11,990 ft), Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world. The city has been the religious and administrative capital of Tibet since the mid-17th century. It contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka Palaces.

The joys of finding new things to explore & playing with everything.
Bella is very inquisitive & playful. In the photo she’s checking a box of Christmas baubles that I bought. She’ll get involved even more when I get out the other decorations!
Happy Caturday.
Great crop of Blueberries this year, now all safely in the freezer, thankfully spotted this little lady before I froze! Have a great day ;0)
Hank came out to help dead head the rosebush but I had already finished.. He said he was sorry he was late but I assured him I was able to handle the job just fine and I appreciated the nice thought... Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday, Everybody!!
HSS 😊😊😍
I have once again used flags in this work that have been downloaded from The World Fact Book.
Surely just as we artists work in unison globally to produce beautiful, meaningful and helpful art, all of humanity could make an extra effort to work together unselfishly for the benefit of all and cooperate internationally to bring peace, love and equality to all. This is my sincere wish for my children and grandchildren and if we start doing this life can improve and they will have a much brighter future.
With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating and stay safe! ❤️❤️❤️

Canard Colvert
Edmundston, Nouveau-Brunswick

Mallard
Edmundston, New Brunswick
A large duck, generally common and familiar within its extensive range. Males are distinctive with iridescent green head, yellow bill, chestnut breast, and gray body. Females are mottled brown with orange and black splotches on the bill. Found anywhere with water, including city parks, backyard creeks, and various wetland habitats. Often in flocks, and frequently mixes with other duck species. In North America, females can be tricky to distinguish from American Black Duck, Mottled Duck, and Mexican Duck where ranges overlap. Those species are all darker-bodied than Mallard. A good view of the wing can be helpful, too: white wingbars on the leading and trailing edges of the blue wing patch are bolder on Mallard.

This is two of my dearest friends Todd my tech adviser who helped me with constructing a 21st-Century Digital Public Art viewing space and Tamara who was very helpful in me meeting Todd and other cool folks n myself.
I had my 1st Exhibition from Aug. 16, 2018, to Sept. 16th 2018
at the Tulip Building-Bottle Works Arts on 3rd. Ave.
It was a historic event in that it was the very first all computer n math-based Art Exhibition in our local Art Community.
The title of my show was
' A 21st Century Paradigm Shift
The Emerging Modalities of the New Media Art World'.
the paradigm shift was that there were no ancient analog works--only modern computer-based digital works.
da emerging modalities was the evolutionary and revolutionary nu technology that allows me to animate a static still photo into an animation.
I had 29 digital prints hanging and 40 of my animated still photos running on 3 computers and monitors and one projector projecting a 10' x 10' image of my animations. We had to convert an analogue 20th-Century public Art viewing space into a modern and contemporary 21st-Century Digital public Art viewing space.
I was invited 2 days ago to show my next exhibition at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at their Altoona. Pa, site next April 15, 2020, until October 15, 2020,
I learned a lot about making the transition from a private underground net presence to a public showing.
here is a link to my friend Marian Facebook site where she posted a few snaps of my show.
www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1915228645228143&ty...
she also took these pictures
we are collaborators
I can't create an album containing my prints from the show because it won't let me add a description of what's in the album??
anybody else having that problem with their albums??
CP 7026 hauls the 243 out of South Haven siding after meeting 240 which ironically also had a red SD70ACU leading. I saw this 243 first at Plymouth with a great looking leader and the sky clearing up gradually, I gave chase. Fortunately he had this meet at South Haven as gave me ample time to make the hike to this curve just west of the Clearwater River.

Beaver Pond, along the Vloman Kill, at the end of winter in the town of Bethlehem, located in upstate New York. Image taken with a Hasselblad Stellar (a pocket point-and-shoot camera, not a full-fledged Hasselblad) -- essentially a Sony RX100 with a fancy (but helpful) grip and Hasselblad branding. Very useful as a lightweight camera.
This kind egret took the small fish there in its mouth from one area of this pond to another ... being helpful ... ;)
I have just come back from touring around Scotland, where this beauty was captured from the deck of a boat, from the Isle of Mull. It was a magnificent bird, like a flying barn door with an impressive 8 foot wingspan.
This is who does the trips and they were helpful and very knowledgeable.
I wish I knew what size to make these at the time the photo is being snapped. Any pointers would be helpful :)) Thanks !
These are the guys who have opted to remove the snow atop the ice so that families can skate freely on the public pond in Humber Bay Park My grandchildren enjoyed the small snowman who was like a mascot.
Essentially my first piece of artwork created using Adobe Photoshop 2025…………and what a frustrating project this turned out to be! In addition to dealing with the “learning curve” of having to work with a new and unfamiliar photo-editing software, I discovered , to my chagrin, that not only did Adobe make many changes in this software, they eliminated several features that I have been used to working with for over 25 years! I spend as much time…….well actually more time searching for answers and explanations on the internet in reference to the use of, fixing glitches and trying to find where certain controls, panels and features have been relocated. And then dealing with application freezes and glitches. Thankfully YouTube proved to be a good source for information and of course video tutorials. On the other hand, however, proving not to be helpful in several other instances. One of the problems I ran into was that I am working with the newest version of Photoshop (2025) and not many graphic artists have yet to embrace version 26.2.0. In past years upgrades in applications software (and operating systems) usually did not entail major, radically changes but in today's world technology seems to have an obsession with “changing things” - many times, for no other reason other than change for change sake only.

What a cool scene I sensed here as I turned the corner first. As always, the people were helpful and so very nice. Many are rather curious, or let's put it this way, they pretend to be curious. (¬‿¬)
The composition was already clear to me, as I had already been here the day before and was able to memorize my position well. This photo is perhaps a little more sombre, but on closer inspection, the joy and colors here have by no means disappeared. Because these details, joy and color will always be part of my photos.
I love her art Hania Rani so young and so talented. The song Glass the video ♫ was recorded in Berlin and many sequences were shot in the district where I grew up. Speaking of Berlin, I may soon have something completely new from Berlin in terms of photography. But will that be something for Flickr? I'm not sure yet. Anyway, I won't have much time to share photos anytime soon, but I'll try to keep an eye on your excellent work.

Thanks to 2 helpful local Oregon souls who pointed out that I had mistakenly identified the Astoria-Megler Bridge because the GPS coordinates on my phone have the location in Astoria as connectivity on the Highway 101 corridor was very spotty, actually closer to Lewis and Clark National Historic Site based on the GPS coordinates and the fact that this bridge Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport Oregon both have are painted green but lack the monuments on both sides & wouldn’t have trees in the horizon, I made a bad call on the bridge off the files on my Iphone rather that my camera pictures which I carefully keep track of location. Thank you @bobcat.lamb & @grillindaddy for pointing out my “fake news”. Appreciate the clarification and the fact that you read the caption.

016-100x: the 2025 Edition

A helpful Estero Llano Grande State Park Ranger told us of two possible locations for a Common pauraque. On his advice we set out to find it. I'm not sure this could be considered 'in plain sight' but it was there. Luckily I ran into him again at the location and he pointed it out. Yikes, you can see it but this stretches the definition of 'plain.' I confess, I returned the following day with a tripod and the 1.4 extender for a bit closer of a view. When this bird finds a good nest site, it keeps it.
This round of cool temperatures is over for now but you can see plants which didn't appreciate it at all.
huge thanks to Kat, Buttloaf, Max, Margit, Ian, and Alex mocs for super helpful feedback, really made me take this thing above n beyond what i thought i could do. huge thanks to jack frost for helping me learn how to edit the pics too <3
Some helpful comments from Charlie M. "The slight yellowish tint of the supercilium indicates this bird hatched in 2018. What we call a second-year bird. It is the plumage they have when they leave the nest, and hold until their 2nd fall molt, when they are somewhere around 15-18 months old. So most of first year and most of second year. In the month of Nov, a 2nd year bird looks the same as a bird of any older age.
“Hey Sky, you look worn out. What have you been doing?” Asked Bertie.
“Helping the man Bertie, but it hasn’t been quite so easy as I expected.”
“You don’t normally help the man Sky, why are you doing it now?” Asked Posh Bear.
“Well, you know how he is Posh, there is no way he is capable of sorting out these lights on his own. I saw the look on his face as he tipped them out of that plastic box and could tell he was in trouble.”
“So exactly what are you actually doing then Sky?”
“These lights got into a tangle so I was trying to untangle them for the man. It didn’t help when he switched the lights on while I was doing it though. I was going to tell him but you don’t like to discourage them do you Posh?”
“Absolutely not Sky, as you say he isn’t the brighten thing around so encourage him is what I say.”
“What does he want these lights for anyway Sky?”
“No idea, they stay in their box all year and then suddenly he gets the urge to take them out and use them for something. I can’t understand how they got in this tangle in the first place.” Said Sky shrugging his shoulders.
“Faith and Hope are not helping by playing in amongst the wires, if they would sit down and watch that might help.”
“They are fine Posh; I’m giving up on this mess and I’ll let the man sort it out himself. Should provide him with hours of fun and amusement.”
“Probably the highlight of his day as far as entertainment goes.” Agreed Bertie.
“Now look at him Bertie, he has got that three legged picture making thing out. Whatever is he doing now?”
“Hard to tell really Sky, probably going to take our picture again. I think he has given up with the lights.”
“These flashing lights will confuse him for he’ll never work out which is going to be best, lights on or off. This could be a long session chaps.” Giggling Sky.
“It’s going to be worse than that Sky, he has got to get a photo with the lights on and off first. I wonder if he would miss us if we crept away?” Asked Bertie.
“I doubt it but it depends on what he is going to try to take a picture of with that machine. If it is the lights, then I assume we’ll not be missed but if it is us then there is a slight chance he might notice if we aren’t there.” Said Posh.
“We need a distraction Posh, any ideas?” Asked Bertie.
“Sky, take hold of one of the bulbs and give it a twist and that should stop them all flashing, it’ll take him days to work out what has happened.” Said Posh.
“Good idea Posh, he goes.”
“Bertie you do one too then if he finds one, they still won’t work and he’ll probably put them back in that plastic box for another year.” Said Posh.
“Posh, I’ve been thunking, the lights are so pretty it seems a shame to turn them off.” Said Sky softly.
“True, maybe we’ll hang around and watch the lights for a while. What do you think Posh?” Asked Bertie.
“Whatever you want, while you’re doing this you aren’t eating my honey so I’m not going to complain. Now did you find an end to this thing Sky? Perhaps we should all help.” Asked Posh.
