The 33rd Michael Manning Memorial 10km Road Race was held in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland at 19:30 on Saturday 23rd June 2012. Yet again, as has been the case, in the previous 32 years, Dunshaughlin AC and the Dunshaughlin 10KM lived up to its billing as one of Ireland's finest road races. A huge attendance again highlighted the popularity of the race. Congratulations must be extended to everyone involved - including Dunshaughlin AC, Meath Athletics, and the running community in general who helped with stewarding etc. The after race refreshments were as good as ever.

Happy May Day! My first task today was going to the medical center to have blood drawn and contribute to the urine collection cause, but before I went I got to surprise Darek with his May Day Flower.
This evening Darek went to the Lodge Mixer and I made an unusual appearance. I asked everyone to help me get my "Holiday or Vacation Beers/Drinks photo". They agreed. Cheers!
I discovered that Nova would make THE worst dock diving dog ever. If she can't feel the bottom she won't jump in, she'll just stand there and whine. My sister got a video of her when we were camping crying because there was a stick in the water off the rocks.
This is after she finally went off the rocks. She was really not happy and was so stubborn - if she moved a couple feet towards me she could easily get up the rocks, but she wouldn't move from this spot and I had to go over and pull her up.
She's a princess, can only swim on sandy beaches apparently, Lol.
Asher and Ronan at a CPPP park playdate...Asher decided to help me out by wearing his old CPPP t-shirt so newcomers could spot us. I have no idea why his hat is on sideways.

This 1964 stamp features emperor Menelik II leading his troops to defeat the Italian occupying force in 1894. St George is seen as a ghostly image riding a heavenly horse and assisting the Ethiopians to victory. It's quite a nice stamp.

Our Daily Challenge - July 11, 2015 - "The Household Task You Hate The Most"
When you have have two large fluffy dogs - especially one who is a constant heavy shedder (Henry, that would be you) - dusting is either a full-time job or an exercise in futility.
At least with vacuuming you get the pleasure of hauling the full bag out to the garbage knowing that you accomplished something.
To be honest, I have a narrow plastic garden rake - the sort you use to get the leaves out from under small shrubs - and I first rake the carpet before I vacuum it.
This not only saves on vacuum bags (else I would fill one per week) but keeps the countless bits of shredded boxes* (eh hem... looking at you again, Henry) from clogging up the machine.
* an "Enrichment activity" - We toss all our empty cardboard boxes (cereal, Cookie, cracker, soda... etc.) boxes into the boys' toy basket. When the boys get in a destructive mood, they can pull one out and rip it shreds. Or play keep-away. Or just haul it around the house (because they are Golden Retrievers and Golden Retrievers do that sort of thing).

The Darby Military Community Christmas Tree Lighting was Dec. 6 at the Darby Community Club. Darby children helped pull the switch to light the DMC tree. There was caroling, music, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa.

Sidory, Poland — Irena (57) and Jozef Juszczak (56) hold some of their young geese. The family are beneficiaries in a Heifer Poland historical project, receiving their animals in April 2005. They received 26 chickens and 14 geese, all of them were 1 day old when they arrived. Since 2005, many geese, Guinea hens, and chickens have been passed on by the Juszczak’s. “I can’t even count how many families now have my chickens...there has been so many Pass-Ons,” Irena Juszczak said. The family is raising all of the animals on only a half hectacre of land. The couple got involved in the project when their daughter was working in local park and heard about the HPI Poultry Project. Irena was familiar with the breed of Green Leg chicken and knew they lived longer and were a superior breed. Standard breeds live about 2 years, whereas her Green Leg’s are 5 years old and still laying eggs. Green Legs can lay about 190 count per year. The biggest impact for Irena and Jozef Juszczak is that they don’t have to buy eggs anymore and enjoy more healthy poultry for their family. “I’m also selling some (eggs) to the neighbors,” Irena said.

Indigenous Breeds Helps Farmers to Generate Income - (Project #27-0637-01). Active project. This project aims to assist farmers who live in the north-east part of Poland in a place called the Suwalki Landscape Park Territory. People are especially poor in the region without income generating activities as a result of national laws, which puts strict limitations on development of agriculture and industry. Heifer is providing Green Leg chickens and indigenous breed Suwalska Geese, a species that has almost disappeared in this region and is currently being revitalized.

This officer seemed to think I was photographing her and the other officers and, immediately after I snapped this, shouted "Can I help you?" in a very passive-aggressive sort of manner to me. I looked around to see who said it, by which time she had already gone back to work hassling this man in the wheelchair. Ironic that I was actually photographing the building behind her and would never have noticed she was there if she hadn't gone out of her way to be rude. It wasn't until I downloaded the photo that I noticed she was staring right at me when I snapped the picture.
This is marked 1863 and belonged to Pvt. LaPoint of
this unit. He was wounded and lost a leg to amputation
at Cold Harbor in 1864. An artificial leg helped him live
close to normal and he lived until 1913.
I was in an antique shop that had one of these unit memorials
recently, except this one was dated 1882. Nor was it a famous unit. Mine however suffers from some wear.
My new vehicle has helped to put the excitement back into road-tripping. Last weekend I drove up to the Davis, CA area to photograph sunflowers at sunset. The sunset was nice but the sunflowers were not. All the sunflower fields that I found were dying (I thought sunflowers were an all summer long flower). I departed Davis and went to West Sacramento to visit my cousin. On the way to get me some much needed food, we passed a sunflower field close to his house. Sunset was long gone but we decided to check it out in the morning. Early morning took us to the sunflowers but I discovered that I left all my memory cards at home. Off to Fry's we went to buy some more memory cards. While the photos I got were not good enough to check "sunflowers at sunset" off my photography bucket list, what was awesome is having my Raider fan cousin picking out the best looking sunflowers. I promised him I wouldn't tell his friends that he was a great sunflower picker outer...LOL ;-) DSC_7565A_12x18_SM
