British Columbia, CA: Less than 1/10 of the world’s land surface is rain forest, yet they are responsible for nearly 1/3 of the world’s oxygen. You know you’re breathing fresh rain forest air when you see lichen hanging from trees - some have survived for thousands of years and are extremely susceptible to pollution. Temperate rain forests decompose slowly, resulting in a rich vegetation base (including a variety of mushrooms) but few tree varieties (mostly coniferous), due to the climate and low light levels. 5 five species of salmon, multiple bird varieties, black-tailed deer, grey wolf, grizzly bear, and black bear live in these forests. I was looking through the vault last night and found this one from March, 2009.
This was the first "supermoon" I had ever seen. I was out at Lighthouse Park, shooting the sunset. I had an app on my phone, the Photographer's Ephermis, and when I checked opened it, I saw that there was going to be a full-moon rising in less than an hour.
I set up the shot and waited, and I had no idea what I was in for. When the moon rose over West Vancouver, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had no idea supermoons were even a thing, and I've been a huge fan ever since.
